Excellent, as always my lady Nina.
4:05 ah! the use of tissue, very rarely talked about (in fact you are the first one I have heard talking about it with clear explanations). I don’t know if there is more to say about it (but I guess you could blow my mind again talking about it in depth in a dedicated tutorial) but as it is usually left out of the frame by watercolorists on TH-cam, we don’t have the chance to see nor understand the importance of the use of the tissue while painting. Thanks to have talked about it a bit. This is one of those fast moves left out of the frame that are crucial to good practice (I’m pretty sure there is a couple of other “out of frame moves” that could be talked about in depth - like spraying - something like “Crucial outside of the frame moves: the use of tissue and spray - how and why to use them properly”. This could be an interesting topic.
But then again, thank you for your beautiful in depth approach. I’ll join your Patreon soon

Nina, thanks for the demonstration and discussion of paint consistencies, tonal values, and scene development. Very helpful to those of us starting out in watercolor.

Best watercolor instruction anywhere. Happy to support the channel. I used the discount code and got a few Meeden blocks and some paint. I'll try this exercise and see how it measures up to the paper I usually use for practice.

Thank you so much Nina!!! I learn something new every video you do!!! How often do you do plain air painting??? Do you find it more difficult than working with a photo???🤔🤔🤔👍

I'm so glad Marvin! Plein air is more natural to me. We never painted from photos when I studied at art school (for 8 years haha). When you're are learning plein air is a must. When you do plein air you learn to transform 3d to 2d... perspective etc.. eventually it imprints in your mind and even when you look at a piece of white paper you can imagine a 3d shape on it. You hardly ever do perspective or proportion mistakes after. Painting from a photo is like painting blind, transferring a flat image to flat image with a composition set for you. But it's still 1000 times better than no painting at all.

That makes a lot of sense!!! Most of my career was spent in architecture! I learned to see things in 3D so actually drawing is not difficult for me. But painting is all together different story! I would feel so uncomfortable painting outdoors and having people come and look over my shoulder! Thank you for sharing your talent!!!!❣️👍👍👍
