I guess unpopular opinion, but this wouldn't have happened if there was a speed limit of say 130kmh. Driving at these high speeds is super risky, bad for fuel consumption, wears out your car much faster and doesn't even save much time, as you almost never can maintain these speeds for a long time.
If people want to drive fast they should go on a race track and not endanger people with their driving.
After reading some of the other comments I want to add. Driving fast is not s privilege, so you can't expect someone to not make you brake at especially at high speeds. Imagine a car with low hp wants to overtake a semi truck, it can take them minutes if they only drive a few kmh more and still they are not assholes for not going fast on the left lane. Still what is seen on this video is risky driving from the person recorded and mistakes from the golf... Glad nothing happened

I would say that in Germany on some days it is much safer to drive 150-170 km/h than 100-120 km/h.
170 km/h is often the flow of traffic on the left, 150 km/h in the middle and 80-100 km/h on the right.
If you're traveling at 110km/h on the right, you have to be extremely careful at all times if you just want to overtake a truck. You either constantly slow people down or wait forever until you can overtake without slowing down others.
Your “mistake” would not have happened in this form at 150 km/h. Experience has shown that usually a truck doesn't drive in front of you - the Mercedes wouldn't have had to brake so hard or - the best option - you would have accelerated 300 meters beforehand - and pulled over to the far left at 180 km/h.
Some people think this is a specifically German problem.
My experience is that things run extremely smoothly and safely here, even without a speed limit, and most people are safe drivers.
In France or Switzerland, despite the limit, you have at least the same problems and more ruthlessness. Things are really bad in Italy.

The principle of who's right/who's to blame doesn't matter if you crash. At the end of the day, you'll still (almost certainly) be paralysed/dead. Is knowing that you had the moral high ground still worth it then? At a 200km/h speed you have a braking distance of ~25 feet given a normal reaction time. This makes you an idiot because that doesn't offer you enough time to react to other idiots. Slow and steady wins the race. Nowhere is worth the risks of driving at that speed. Doesn't matter if this speed is legal or if many other drivers do the same. None of that matters the moment you hit some willfully ignorant idiot that pulls out without looking and you spend the rest of your life eating dinner through straws.

I mean this was obviously the Golf's fault, but I do hope the camera learned a lesson here as well: Always expect other drivers mistakes. Especially here where there are cars following a truck, just slow down when approaching these situations, if nothing happens you lost like 10s of going 200+ and you can just speed up again. IF an accident happens here you'd be lucky to even be able to think about who is at fault. Going 200+ is perfectly fine, but always consider the situation and adjust your speed to it.

@HelloWorld-zg3gs it is actually not even a "you should" but you must bcs any car in the left lane ofc has right of way over any car from right lane that wants to switch lanes so simply indicating to switch lanes by turn signal and then switching lanes immediately is illegal. Even if you do all of these, if the car behind you is coming with 200 km/h, you literally don't see it BEHIND you because it's way too fast to notice that the car is closer to you than you think. This is why you should not speed, speeding makes you harder to be noticed by others.
