    I am a younger boomer, and always so blown away by how many young smart people are into this crypto/BTC space. To listen to Nic, he sounds like 50 yr old who has been in the business for 30 years. Speaks with facts, directness, confidence. Great discussion, and Peter, I saw where you stated very similarly how many smart young people are in the space, keep getting them onto your channel. So many great views, and as a boomer, really gives me hope for the future when I am done and dusted! But my kids and grandkids (hopeful for now) will live in a world of an even economic playing field.

      bitcoin is a good investment and store of value. But I think we need to temper these Utopian fantasies of bitcoin becoming the world reserve currency and everyone being on a bitcoin standard. That most likely will never happen. Nation states will never allow it.

      70+ boomer, agree. Brilliant young minds navigating the digital reality of now and the future. I enjoy listening to Nic, and others of his generation helping me understand the here and now.

    In reference to Matt Levine's point on vulcano bonds (1:03:25):
    So El Salvador has issued (or is going to issue) a bond based on Bitcoin, which may make even more appealing this other option: just buy a previous bond issued by El Salvador in 2002 that you can buy for 73 cents for 1 USD, AND the other 27 cents you save you can invest them in Bitcoin.
    Seams like this vulcano bond is both incentiving the purchase of a previous one issued by the same country plus buying bitcoin... So any option you may choose is good for them!
    IMHO this is fucking BRILLIANT!

    Since you are for stable coins and cryptos dollarization, what chain do you support for that

    • @zeroism6036
      @zeroism6036 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Terra. It's the only chain, as far as I know, that's built from the ground up with the main purpose to support Its native stable coin. So far it seems very stable and secure, it's algorithmic and properly decentralised which it's competitors are not and it's growing fastest out of all of them. Gives you the highest yeald of the main ones and can't be regulated bu the SEC. UST is the name of the stable coin.

    • @XxChuyoxX
      @XxChuyoxX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lefties want more control. That doesn't align with the values in Bitcoin.

    • @HidingFromFate
      @HidingFromFate 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just wish there was more conversational engagement with Progressives from people like Nick Carter. I see a lot of bad misunderstanding about BTC coming from that side. Conversely, some of the criticisms from that side I share too. There's a lot of cringe types in the crypto community.

    A Bitcoin Standard seems to be not only about unit of account or a store of value/savings account, but also (to Nics point) a médium of exchange. But wouldn’t it be stupid to use BTC as a MoE if it works as a collatoralized asset (digital property) where you can borrow and spend the shitcoin/fiat while keeping the asset in your possession?
    In the past, when one couldn’t get a home equity line on your BTC, then perhaps we realize profits to buy the dream home or car or whatever.
    Today no one in their right mind is selling an appreciating asset.
    In the imagined future, if and when the dollar is hyperinflating, perhaps then we would spend satoshis as the medium of exchange of last resort.
    Maybe this is Hyperbotcoinization in practice?

    • @patrick3926
      @patrick3926 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this scenario since there is a fixed BTC supply and suddenly central banks demand for 5 million BTC, would whales sell it?

    • @biswarupbhatacharjee6537
      @biswarupbhatacharjee6537 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      His version of future is very linear. As if things would go on as is. More likely scenario would be decade long secular stagnation triggered by automation and governments trying to counter that with inflationary monetary policies, leading to severe stagflation. The whole game would change.

    How do you stop someone taking your gold by force?
    You most likely wont even have it close enough to protect if you really wanted to, even if you could how you going to keep it and hide it and move it about?
    Gold might still have its uses, however store of value wont be one of them at some point, not to mention its price gets messed about with and aint nothing anyone can do to stop that. Gold had its time as the number one store of value, but its clear that is no longer the case now.

    The problem with Nic's argument for the USD is that eventually, all fiat goes to zero as everyone loses trust in the currency. At that point, if a BTC standard does not replace it, another fiat currency will (most likely a dystopian, mass-surveillance boosted, digital yuan).

    My only question about inviting sovereigns to buy bitcoin, do you really want entities that can simply print money to buy bitcoin? The Fed could just use 1/25th of what they doled out to buy up most all bitcoin and let it become inert. As an aside, if there aren’t enough bitcoin for every millionaire to have one how can it possibly handle widespread ownership/usage, let alone sovereigns owning it. It seems impossible….
