    For me, emulators are a way to relive games I wasn’t even around to play. Plus a lot of old games are just so good, they’re complete, classic, and wonderful.
    Plus it’s pure nostalgia to go back and just see the games that were at one time, the next generation. Always amazing to see

      @colinbeckstrand2612 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@SlyRyFry Having them available is atleast better than what most companies are doing. You being too cheap to pay for them doesn't constitute a valid reason to emulate. That's just coping at it's finest. Go ahead and emulate, I don't care. Just don't hide behind the fact that you don't want to pay. "If only the gas station didn't charge money for their snickers bars, then I wouldn't have to use the 5 finger discount."

    • @SlyRyFry

      @@colinbeckstrand2612 Assumption at its finest. The problem isn't paying for them, I still have ps+ other reasons.
      Just like lord Gaben says "One thing that we have learned is that piracy is not a pricing issue. It’s a service issue." In my case the sentiment couldn't ring anymore true.
      The analogy with the snickers bar is cute and all but it has little to no relevance with the issue I have with streaming classic games. It's a quality issue, it'd be more like if they could beam a snickers into your car but its missing textures, low fps, and has laggy inputs, BUT you can't even go into the store to get a real one. That's all they offer now. So I go home, look up the recipe and make it work. Because I'm not gonna take a lower quality product just because the company decides it's worth it.
      Bowing down to these mega corporations for doing/being stupid is just cringe. If they offered what I wanted I'd buy it, but they don't.

    • @daileeedunno
      @daileeedunno 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @TheDeathmail The issue is, emulators really have merit for two things: archival or piracy. If you begin to make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, offer an online service, and support playing games that haven't even been released yet you lose all merit as an archival tool. Plus, even if Yuzu weren't directly responsible for piracy, they were knowingly facilitating piracy on their platform and even encouraging it by launching competing features (like Yuzu online) and supporting games which aren't out yet, making them liable for some of the damages Nintendo faced.

    • @smellvadordali9806
      @smellvadordali9806 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's legal precedent for commercial emulators, Bleem and Virtual Gamestation were both commercial products. It seems like the Yuzu devs had been promoting piracy explicitly, sharing ROMs on their Discord, and that's why they folded so quickly.

    • @Cactussii
      @Cactussii 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      @@TheDeathmail So Yuzu did a bunch of really dumb stuff including sharing roms of unreleased games in their discord, and the emulator updates to support TotK that were locked behind their patreon were released before the TotK release date which is a pretty solid way to show that they were genuinely profiting from piracy.
      Theres a reason the Yuzu team didn't even try to fight it, what they did was pretty blatantly illegal and that's without Nintendo even having to make a case for the legal status of emulators.

    • @ungratefulmango
      @ungratefulmango 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nothing blocked the game from working in the regular release of the game. They just had a newer version you could access more easily if you supported their Petreon. Nothing illegal there. • @Tkscz
      @Tkscz 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Oh buddy it was more than that. Remember, for specific games to run correctly on an emulator, that game has to be debugged on said emulator, which takes time, could take a week or could take a month. Considering that, how did Tropical Haze, the Yuzu devs, get these games running on Yuzu days in advanced? They had ROMs well before they should have, which is illegal. It was also multiple games, Nintendo even has screen shots of them admitting one of their goals is to get games running before or day of the game's release. Then you can throw in them making money off of it, and you got yourself a guilty party.

      Supporting your own product with better features and paywalling them is NOT a reason to get shutdown. Yuzu was blamed for piracy and maybe that happened. Most of Nintendo's old games are not even legally available and none of the new ones are available where I live. Nintendo has killed so many of their own games and their availability. Emulation is the only way to play them unless people want to pay our per capita income for one game without the console. While all games are expensive in my country, nothing beats the sheer lack of supply Nintendo provides.

    I know this Switch Emulator was ultimately taken down by Nintendo because the devs of the emulator were making money from the Emulator via Patreon. Currently I'm really into a fan game called Pokemon MMO and the devs are making money off the game via in game items and cosmetics and I'm afraid that Pokemon MMO will eventually get taken down by Nintendo or Game Freak 😢.

    It didn't help that YUZU was making a ton of money on patrion and other donation sites. The TotK leak didn't help either. Emulating for games/console that are currently still being produced and sold new also didn't help this case....
    However Nintendo needs to get it's act together, maybe drop a somewhat more expensive switch with some actual power behind it. If emulating a game is what it takes to make it playable, that's a huge problem on nintendo's end.

    I also don't like the "emulation is piracy" thing. Nintendo's virtual consoles were literally just emulators. Old games that have been re released are most likely using emulation to do so. The Playstation 3 has emulation built right into it. So no, emulation doesn't equal piracy. If emulation is piracy, then Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony are, at best, complete hypocrites.

      GBA carts generally don't have battery saves, saves are usually stored on flash memory. I'm sure some carts have battery saves, but it's pretty uncommon IIRC. If a GBA cart does have a battery it's usually for something other than battery-backed memory, like a real-time clock (think Pokémon R/S/E) or a built in component (the gyroscope in Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble). When the battery goes out those things stop working.
