Why did they have to bring back undertale, its cringe at this point. The fanbase is terrible stop making more of these, noone asked for this we've moved on.
Also, just because it's chapter 1, doesn't mean it isn't a full game in its own right. There's enough meat on this for me to consider it a game on its own.
Got to finish it in a sitting after the tweet went up, it's more Undertale with an updated style. It is basically a great sequel (mini-sequel? miquel?). No complaints here. There is even Sans in it. Sans wins the internet.
Toby was never really in it for the money, and he made more than he ever thought he would with undertale, so it's not that surprising he did something like this
Someone found a hidden file that indicated that this was the game Toby originally had in mind before creating Undertale. Basically, Undertale was the practice round so that Toby could finally make the game he wanted.
Deltarune is indeed a marvelous little thing, for FREE no less. People say it’s 2-3 hours but I actually put a little more into it just to make sure I caught the numerous details. Can’t wait to see what Toby has for us next.
@@TopOfAllWorlds Same here. 3-4, plus another 30min to an hour for the secret boss. And thats just the pacifist playthough. Can still replay genocide which would probably add another 1-2 hours.
Spoilery comment ahead Something I find interesting about this is how Deltarune very much wears its heart on its sleeve. Undertale mostly played it straight in its opening cinematic and whatnot and only gave you a hint that the world wasn't what it seemed when Flowey popped up, but as you progressed through the game it would've been easy enough to forget about Flowey and consider it just another misguided monster trying to attack humans on sight and be once more lulled into a false sense of security. Along the way hints are dropped like the chilling restaurant moment with sans but the background horror of the game really isn't revealed until the end and not fully explored until you do all the game's possible routes. Deltarune immediately opens with a somewhat surreal and haunting "character creation" sequence where you're asked if your favorite flavor is pain and if your creation disgusts you, then it's discarded and you're told nobody in this world gets to choose who they are. It's not really trying to hide the fact that this isn't a straightforward RPG about heroes of light trying to bring balance to the world, from the word "go" you're told that what you do doesn't matter. Some people have gotten up in arms about the "your choices don't matter" stuff the game sprinkles in, but frankly I can't take this seriously as anything but a misdirection. Taking that line at face value is, in my eyes, as naive as believing Flowey when he tells you the world is kill or be killed. The fact that you can't actually kill anyone in the demo and that events play out more or less the same no matter what you do, with a minor difference in the ending depending on if you made peace with everyone or not, doesn't indicate to me that choices won't matter in this game. Quite the opposite, in fact. I suspect choices will matter more than they did in Undertale - whether the game is released episodically or not, it feels like it will have a distinct chapter-by-chapter narrative, with the way you play in each chapter gradually altering your character (or possibly your entire party) and the world. In Undertale, genocide and pacifism were predetermined, and they were all or nothing. If you're fully pacifist, it's not because of choices you made as a player - it's because your character was actually Frisk, not you. If you're fully genocidal, again it wasn't a choice, it was Chara taking control. Arguably you're only "you" in the neutral endings where the ending is effected by who you do or don't kill, but the outcome is still more or less the same. I fully expect Deltarune to take a different approach to this, where your character actually evolves with the way you play rather than it being an on/off switch between a pacifist and a genocidal maniac. This is obviously speculative, though. I think there's enough supporting evidence for it, but this is already too long of a TH-cam comment.
There's no real point in Deltarune playing it straight from the start though. Everyone already knows Undertale and all it's misdirection and we expect it from an Undertale sequel.
IMO, and I say this as someone who didn't have the heart to play the Genocide route or futz with the game's files, Undertale played it straight because it was fully expected that people would ignore the "don't have to kill anyone" bits in the steam store page/trailer, and then get that route by default. Game ends, go play new game+ and get the same ending right? Wrong... picked up where you thought the game ended, and that's where the actual fork in the road is. Here it would be too much of a predictable thing for all players to pick the peace route by default, so it has to switch up how you end up on the "bad" or "good" path. Where in Undertale you had to not kill (you can hit them) everyone, in Deltarune it's likely that you probably have to kill "the big bad", and killing anyone else along the way makes the boss easier because of EXP. What would switch that up is that there is an equal and opposite reaction. The game does make references to light and dark balance, so are you dark or light?
I'm expecting quite a bit of character development based on player choice myself. While Suzie befriends Lancer and becomes less of an asshole regardless what you do, depending on how you beat the King, Ralsei's attitude seems to change drastically, especially if you win by fighting, where Ralsei acknowledges that maybe kindness doesn't always win. The general populace of the kingdom's attitude towards you also changes drastically, as if you've been a pacifist, they rush to help you overthrow the king, whereas if you've been violent, they still storm the throne room, but it's more because they're freaking out and rioting than trying to help you. It's no longer all or nothing, where you're either full genocide or full pacifist, and any halfway deviation only affects the ending dialogue. You may think that your choices don't matter like the game tells you, and it may seem that way in the short-term, but knowing Toby, actions WILL have consequences. And of course, there's still all that mysterious meta-stuff at the start and also the ending scene, as well as the entire world feeling like an AU in general. There's a looooong road ahead for Delta Rune lore.
@@0332288 I feel like it won't go for the same theme as undertale. In undertale the theme was twofold: that even in a video game world, your choices matter, and that you should try your best to be kind as much as you can. I think that because of how it specifically says that your choices don't matter, this game will go the opposite route and show how even though you should always try to do the morally right thing, if you can't make a meaningful choice between right and wrong then it doesn't matter. Kinda like the "unplug the phone" ending from the Stanley Parable but it's the whole game.
Only someone like Toby Fox would release a 1,000,000+ seller game, then release the first episode of its sequel for free with only a single day's build-up. The man is a god among trolls. There's no better. I'm honestly humbled by this.
Toby made Undertale on a shoestring budget and I KNOW he made more on the PS and Switch ports. I don't think he's ever going to need Kickstarter ever again
I assumed at the start it was a sleeper cell horror game because it dropped on Halloween, so the moment I saw how cute Ralsei was I just thought "This dude gon die".
I'm loving this. Always thought Undertale was too good to disappear. And despite what people say, the fandom is way more inspiring compared to other ones. Tell me you've seen other fandoms make cool animations as many as Undertale.
On twitter I saw nothing but wholesome excitement for this game. There's certainly some crazies in the fandom, but nearly all of them just appreciate a great game.
Ralsei is the most cute character in a video game, ever. I will fight you on that. Also, the amount of clever meta-jokes is insane. I'm just saying Mr. Society is afraid of tyrants. Nothing spoiled here.
Spoiler Warning It took me waaay too long to figure out that “Ralsei” was an anagram for “Asriel”. I guess anagrams are just something we always need to be on the look out with Toby Fox
Hey, I've probably said this before,, but I know for myself I always need to hear it. I really appreciate that you're open about your difficulties with depression and other such things. I often look at your videos and go "If Jim Sterling Son can never miss a Monday, I can do this thing".
I don't mind that this game exists but I am dreading the incessant talking about it that will cover my twitter feed for the next several months if this is even half as popular as undertale is.
@@anemoneyas You better hunker down then. Its going to attract all the people who loved Undertale, all the people who hated Undertale, and everyone who wasn't sure enough about giving Undertale a chance because they didn't have much money. My personal prediction? Its going to be bigger.
@@SasukeTheCursed Not necesserally. A lot of what made Undertale so popular and so talked about was it's novelty. The conversation will probably be more chill and calm with Delta rune because of that, and also due to the fact that a lot of people have grown up and mattured since Undertale. So I think the discussion will be more "this is a great game" and less "this is the second coming of christ and the greatest achievement of humankind". I think that's a good thing, because it means we will also have less people annoyingly complaining about the annoying fanbase.
@@poncho3326 I was referring more to the size or the conversation rather than its intensity. As I said all of the people who loved Undertale will no doubt be sold. I mean I played it and I loved it. Can't wait for Chapter 2. The old haters... well lets just say it usually easier to let go of love than it is hate for most people so I'm sure they are still lurking about, at least a lot of them. And again the fact that this is free will bring in anyone who hesitated to try it the first time around, or at least a lot of them. Again this doesn't mean I think it will be a vile of an "us" vs "them" mentality as it was. Just that there will be more people involved in the discussion this time. Of course all of this is mute considering I don't know if there is a genocide option in this game like in UT where most of the controversy was rooted.
This game was so good for a freeware first chapter, and leaves me ravenous for more. I do so very much hunger for the next chapter, whenever that comes out. Also, I feel like Deltarune is an Elseworld of sorts, a parallel universe where things are different.
I don't get the complaints. There was never any problem with Undertale, it was a great indie JRPG with an interesting concept that got well-deserved good reviews, the problem was with the creepy ass online following that developed around it. Learn to differentiate people
You actually can't take damage in the over world in undertale any over world threats would pull you into a single attack encounter. This game exposes your soul in the over world.
@@hadoking3636 It appers Jim did too but Undertale is three years old know so it's probably just been a while. I have a knack for remembering useless information. XP
It's got all the charm of Undertale and then some. Honestly walking around the town filled me with so much melancholy at how things were different and nostalgia seeing the characters again, and that combined with the great humor in that section made for a weirdly emotionally intense experience that I really wasn't expecting.
Protip: if you think you'll meet the spare conditions on turn 1, you can have your party spare them after you act to make them sparable, and thanks to the magic of turn order, it'll work. Try talking to the tutorial people for more info like that.
People in this thread really underestimate how bad players can be, especially when tutorials are non-optional and cost in game currency to actually unlock.
I didn't realize what that part of the tutorial section meant until I was already at the Castle, so... yeah, proof that even though you can be directly told what to do, personal density can get in the way of actually doing things the 'right' way. It wasn't a struggle by any means, but it did speed things up when I was farming a little extra cash for burgers.

This is how you make a great first episode for a game. Tell a great cohesive story, add some mystery, great gameplay mechanics, and give an ending that makes you wanting more.
you know love or hate undertale for whatever reason (I don't have much of an opinion) fact is the creator released this new content for free just because he could and thats pretty cool. Im never gonna play it but I can respect the guy for doing that.
I don't think people could hate Toby Fox even if they wanted to, regardless of what they think of Undertale. This guy is just an ice cube of pure awesomness.
Beat the game yesterday. Have to say even though it’s only a few hours long it’s pretty great and it improves on Undertale in a few ways. I’m excited to see what’s next.
It might actually be my favorite addition to the combat. It's just SUCH a clean way to add a little self-induced complexity and difficulty, where I'm at first trying to stay clear and safe, and eventually trying to get as close as I can and taking hits where I wouldn't normally. I haven't played much touhou, but that's a very smart system.
I really enjoyed the game and knowing him and the popularity of Undertale I'd like to imagine he would have no issue finishing the game or finding a team to help him as one tweet suggested.
Elias Nicolas Miranda COD and BF have had an insanely more popular and cancerous fanbase for a much longer time than Undertale even existed. Quit cherry picking.
Considering Ralsei is an anagram for Asriel, that has the potential to make me very happy if it means what I think it means. Well, better play it and find out :)
"I'll stop there" - After the fourth or fifth time I don't think that phrase means what you think it means. Absolutely loved Deltarune though. I think ultimately people might say this "isn't as good as Undertale" purely for the fact that TobyFox has said that the ending of the game will be the same no matter what and people REALLY over emphasis player choice as a virtue of game design. I don't think player choice in and of itself is a bad thing at all, but the ability to choose doesn't inherently make a game better. Further I think more has been done to harm games by pretending player choice is that important. But I'll stop there.
I really really liked the component of having to warn the enemy about Susie. Having to plan around a not-controllable party character is quite genius. I've never played anything that does this, and then so well, too.
Thankyou Jim for alerting this petty casual gamer that this was in-fact a thing. I can now be on the look out for more of a game setting I enjoy and I otherwise would not have noticed it come up. Now I kind of need more. The hype has suddenly become real.
Only watched a 3rd of the video because I’ve seen enough to want to play this. Will come back later to here your predictions and thoughts but I’m super excited just to dive right in 😁
Probably some alt universe stuff. (Spoilers, don't read) I believe one where the monsters won the war instead of the humans maybe. They did say in the game, the raindeer girl was afraid of humens, so unless she's a racist, there had to be a reason for that fear, thus I think the war still happened. Though wierd stuff that still happens, that corrolates with the ending of Undertale. Like Torial and Asgore aren't together, the Underground entrance shown south of the city, Asgore having those colored flowers that look like the 7 human hearts, Kris (I think Chara) getting adopted by toriel and asgore, etc.
I think it's just the Underworld before Chara. Or Kris, in this case. After all, we don't exactly know what it was like before then. Could easily be a fake-out.
The Reindeer girl isn’t racist Kris hid under her bed and scared her and they explained that she’s afraid of things really easily and when you talk to her she alludes that scaring her from being under her bed isn’t the only thing Kris has done that’s why she was afraid of humans
I thought the reindeer girl was just a joke. Small children are often scared of monsters under their bed, and because she is a monster, she's scared of humans under her bed.
DaveGunner they didn’t have cars in the underground, the game seems to take place in an alternate timeline that splits while Chara/Kris was living underground.
Don't forget what I think is probably the most significant (or at least one of the most significant) points: Asriel is in college. He grew up, went to school, got a bunch of awards, hung out with Burgerpants, danced with Catty, got his first kiss from Bratty, and now he's on the next step to adulthood. Speaking of which, at the end, Ralsei removes his hat and reveals an Asriel-like goat face, which makes me think (since the entire adventure in the Dark World seems to have been in Kris and Susie's imagination) Kris planted bits of Asriel in Ralsei (y'know, because anagrams) because he misses his brother. Adorable, but I still want to know more. I for one am eagerly awaiting chapter 2. Hopefully Toby will explain why this world is so like and unlike Undertale at the same time.
@@ThyphosyonX My big breakthrough was admitting to myself that I had shit taste, and becoming comfortable with that fact. Why spread bile and rag on people when Metroid: Other M is across the room casting devious stares in my direction?
Wait wait wait.. Delta Rune is a different variation of the same words mixed deliberately in that way from the name "Undertale" that is actually made by the same person! MINDFUCK!
Undertale surprised the hell outta me. I was on the fence regarding getting it for so long and then I just took the plunge on it, and it made for a good experience. I had too many misconceptions going in but I'm glad they were proved wrong. This looks like fun, gonna have to try it.
SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE GAME Deltarune is an alternate universe (hence the Undertale anagram) where humans were banished underground (there is not a single human in the town except for Kris). It is not a prequel because Gerson the turtle is dead and buried at the graveyard. Gerson was also the only character in the Genocide Route that Chara couldn’t kill. This is because Deltarune is a continuation of the genocide route. Chara says at the end of said route to “destroy this world and move onto the *next* “. Chara’s plan is to posses all bodies of Frisk from every universe to kill everyone within the time space continuum itself.
Considering that A)Asgore is nowhere to be seen B)Frisk/Chara are apparently not a thing C)Asriel is ALIVE and in college I believe it's supposed to be an elseworld story, a different dimension if you will
It appears to take place in an AU, and because of that certain things didnt happen, but yet certain things still happened. If Asriel didnt die and and Asgore didnt murder anyone, why are they still divorced? What the hell did Asgore do this time so horrible Toriel hates him? My theory is Asgore cheated on her, possibly with Alphy based on what I've seen so far.
Having played Undertale, don't think I can come back to this world. Too much heart ache. Still I am happy Delta Rune is a thing and people can enjoy it.
Toby Fox stated in a TwitLonger post that this game takes place in an alternate universe to the original Undertale. He made sure to point out that whatever state you left that world in, it will stay that way.
It's not the same world; 10 minutes in, you'll stop seeing Undertale characters entirely until the very end. I had similar doubts before I played it, even stopping part way through the intro; give it a shot.
If EA ever gave a game away for free, no strings or microtransactions attached, I think the world would end. Hell would freeze over. The sky would fall. Pigs would fly and I dread to think what would happen to Jim if it happened...
Or they will do the ultimate sell-out move and re-release the same damn game 10 years later on a newer console and call it "ultimate edition" or something.
Interesting. Couple of notes * that triple headed Cerberus style-wise looks suspiciously to OFF - another niche rpg that I’m sure most people now here about. * combat looks very cool with so much of animations and dialogue system is now completely like in shin megami tensei
So something Toby mentioned in post explains exactly what this is. Basically, this is part one of what I believe was stated to be a 5 part game. It's a free demo of the opening first fifth of the game made by Toby basically on his own to drum up interest because he's hoping to get a team together to work on the full product, which will be released on Steam with all parts included for a price if/when he completes all 5 parts. Basically, it's a glorified demo of what's to come that might change in the final release.
WHY the absolute f*** is this game free??? He’s not a company and he’s not a sell out??? So why didn’t he just make it like 2 bucks and just have his work rewarded??? Hell now he might feel bad about asking for money for making or releasing chapter two and make that one free as well. But he deserves to have this be a job he could never make another undertale game and I would be fine he is allowed to close up a story. But if he loves game making so much why shouldn’t he just employ himself and make games for a living? AND MOST OF ALL What happened to the Tems??? Did they get through college? Did they help with the new game? Do The Tems want the mons to go to other students that need the mons????? We need answers Toby!!! We Need Answers!!!
Toby's a cool guy Go buy yourself a copy of that big ol' fancy Undertale package with the gold amulet in the velvet box that's the price of a standard game ($60), or buy one for a friend if you wanna give Toby more money
"$60 is not enough!!! It's the base price for the game and we NEED microtransactions to make the games turn a profit!" Toby: *sells Undertale in a huge fancy package with a gold-plated amulet and a soundtrack, along with a boxed copy of the game on a disc for $60, long after the game could be had for as low as $5 on Steam *
Its a demo, and I mean, Toby has shown himself to be a good guy. It wouldn't surprise me if he simply gave away the entire thing though if he does, I'm throwing money his way anyway.
Randal Jeffrey Pretty sure the problem is that making games is *really* hard and for the most part unrewarding. Toby Fox mentioned that this first chapter took a lot longer than he anticipated and if he was still working on his own he estimated he would be done in about seven years, so he wants to hire a team and hopefully manage it in a few years. Knowing how much even Toby struggles with games like these that he has expertise in making, a passionate gamer can never make something rivaling a AAA game (although, we’ll see how Lost Soul Aside does). Plus, millions of gamers have already made their own games that get flooded into the swamp that is the steam store, likely to not ever be discovered.
I can't say I'm disappointed because it was a free demo and had a surprising amount of new ideas for a free demo. It definitely got me excited for what's coming next so I think it was successful. But I do wish there was more enemy variety, more characters, etc.
This "no spoilers" stuff has gotten out of control. If you don't want to be spoiled about something, don't watch content about that thing. It's why I don't watch movie trailers anymore. As a result, I enjoy movies a lot more now. It seems to be rare, but I have this amazing ability to control what content I consume. If I think something may have spoilers, I don't watch it. I guess I'm one of the lucky few to be blessed with this skill...
Staximus people can be spoiled by things extremely easily just by simple discussion so it’s entirely reasonable that Toby wants people to not talk about it for 24 hours
@@doctoradventure413 - That's why I don't watch movie trailers. People could practice a little self control. Self control is an option here. You are not required to consume any and all content you come across. Why is it reasonable to demand no one talk about your product for 24 hours? That sounds unreasonable to me.
Staximus I follow people on Twitter that happen to be undertale fans, if they started tweeting about points of this game a couple hours after it came out (as its not very long) and I’d had it spoilt, I’d be a bit upset about it, but those people waited 24hours and instead just directed people to the game for that time so others could have their time to enjoy it for themselves. I think that was the main thing the warning was for, social media. Not as much control over your social media feeds as just “don’t click on the video”.
That's a stupid statement. Most people who get spoiled weren't specifically looking for content relating to whatever it is that they got spoiled on, they just happened to read the wrong comment/video title at the wrong time.
@@eatsmoke - Just don't use social media, problem solved. This isn't rocket science people. Social media is not mandatory and it's arguably bad for mental health. Also, what about those who still haven't played? Shouldn't we forbid the entire Internet from talking about the game forever so they're not spoiled? Okay, obviously I'm not going to encourage not watching the entire video through before commenting (what kind of utter madman would do that?), but in limited fairness, people don't generally expect people to do total u-turns on what they've said in the course of a single video.
What total u-turn? It's a full game in my opinion, a chapter can be a full game in its own right. I just explain more details at the end for spoiler reasons. Either way, maybe watch before commenting. That's how we get all of the information on the thing we're commenting on.
It's a demo, of course it's free. I'd expect the full game to have an actual price. yes, a very deep and bigger-than-average demo, but we still only have the one chapter.
This looks exactly like the sequel we wanted, but didn't deserve. It takes what Undertale had good, and refines it further, while also fixing the bits that were bad. I'm definitly gonna be playing this later.
could very well be because the march was making more money then selling undertale(on the pc) making the next one free increases march sales as everyone can get hooked faster rather then wait for a sale. chapters will draw the hype longer and allow more time for polish.
i think giving this away for free actually makes a lot of business sense since it's part of a series. almost certainly the next installment(s) won't be free. with this, a way larger portion of the people who played undertale will pick this up, and then go on to buy the sequel seeing as it's the same caliber of game. whereas if it was for money people might be like 'hey i already played undertale it was perfect.'
Toby has said that, if the rest ever gets finished, it'll all be released at once but it'll cost money. He said it took a few years to finish this chapter though so he'll need to get a team together & has no experience with leading a full team so he doesn't know if it's gonna work out even though he plans to try it because he really wants to finish this game. He said he's not gonna be asking for donations this time because he doesn't wanna burn anyone if it doesn't work out.
I didn't know this had come out, so I made about two minutes into this video before I shut it off, downloaded the game, and played it through. I had quite a bit of fun, and I'm looking forward to future installments. It was exactly what I wanted: more of Undertale's fantastic writing and characters, but with a new twist on the mechanics and story.

Something I find interesting about this is how Deltarune very much wears its heart on its sleeve.
@@clarabain980 Exactly, the real misdirection would be for there to be no misdirection at all.

How was Toby Fox able to give away a game when a single game costs several million dollars to make? You need loot boxes on top of a base price of $60.

Personally, I think Deltarune is just as good as Undertale.
I really really liked the component of having to warn the enemy about Susie. Having to plan around a not-controllable party character is quite genius.

Probably some alt universe stuff. (Spoilers, don't read)
I believe one where the monsters won the war instead of the humans maybe.
They did say in the game, the raindeer girl was afraid of humens, so unless she's a racist,
there had to be a reason for that fear, thus I think the war still happened. Though wierd stuff that still happens,
that corrolates with the ending of Undertale. Like Torial and Asgore aren't together, the Underground entrance
shown south of the city, Asgore having those colored flowers that look like the 7 human hearts, Kris (I think Chara)
getting adopted by toriel and asgore, etc.

SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE GAME
Deltarune is an alternate universe (hence the Undertale anagram) where humans were banished underground (there is not a single human in the town except for Kris).

IIRC it's also the name of the "symbol" featured in Undertale as the royal crest.
Toby Fox mentioned that this first chapter took a lot longer than he anticipated and if he was still working on his own he estimated he would be done in about seven years, so he wants to hire a team and hopefully manage it in a few years. Knowing how much even Toby struggles with games like these that he has expertise in making, a passionate gamer can never make something rivaling a AAA game (although, we’ll see how Lost Soul Aside does). Plus, millions of gamers have already made their own games that get flooded into the swamp that is the steam store, likely to not ever be discovered.
Glad the series is back.
Your choices don't matter.
Or do they?
(vsauce music starts playing)
They do, The colour you pick as your favourite means that that colour crayon is missing when you find a packet of crayons.
@@SSj5Bob You beat me to it
@@makenshi664 And yet, those crayons don't matter, do they?
Kris will remember that \//\
I can't say I'm disappointed because it was a free demo and had a surprising amount of new ideas for a free demo.
Or are the ones who didn't want to get spoiled within the first 24 hours the only ones we care about?

Omg, that bit after you build the machine where the bird guy shoots stuff at you was so hard for me! I actually died there! And you just beat it without taking any damage????
It's about practise... and angles... and learning the enemy patterns.
It wasnt a full game, it was just the first chapter. The game explicitly says that. The game even ends with the words "To be continued in Chapter 2"
My video even ends by talking about what you've just explained to me.
A for listening bud
Okay, obviously I'm not going to encourage not watching the entire video through before commenting (what kind of utter madman would do that?), but in limited fairness, people don't generally expect people to do total u-turns on what they've said in the course of a single video.
What total u-turn? It's a full game in my opinion, a chapter can be a full game in its own right. I just explain more details at the end for spoiler reasons. Either way, maybe watch before commenting. That's how we get all of the information on the thing we're commenting on.
I'm Devil's Advocating again; whoops.
It's a demo, of course it's free. I'd expect the full game to have an actual price. yes, a very deep and bigger-than-average demo, but we still only have the one chapter.
The way certain characters interact with you and mentioning various stories. It seems like the game is an alternate universe.
This looks exactly like the sequel we wanted, but didn't deserve. It takes what Undertale had good, and refines it further, while also fixing the bits that were bad. I'm definitly gonna be playing this later.
could very well be because the march was making more money then selling undertale(on the pc)
making the next one free increases march sales as everyone can get hooked faster rather then wait for a sale.
chapters will draw the hype longer and allow more time for polish.
This free (if short) game looks way better than a lot of games on Steam that people actually thought warranted money.
Cheery reminder to you and everyone reading this that Hunt Down the Freeman was $25
i think giving this away for free actually makes a lot of business sense since it's part of a series. almost certainly the next installment(s) won't be free. with this, a way larger portion of the people who played undertale will pick this up, and then go on to buy the sequel seeing as it's the same caliber of game. whereas if it was for money people might be like 'hey i already played undertale it was perfect.'
