This was 12 years ago and is still so relevent in todays musical arena. This was one of his most creative periods I feel, not that his creative ability still does not over shadow most artists today. Cant sing his prases enough! dude is a legend in his own right.
One of my favorite TOP 10 songs of all time. I would say best version of this is POSITIVELY the track from "Live at the Tibetan Freedom Festival", which is, a decent semi-solid Lp.
for me, when a song sounds better live it highlights the fact that theyre a really passionate and real musician and I respect them for that. Ben you're seriously amazing. Not one persons words will ever be able to describe how insanely good you are !
I WISH I could find this on DVD. First time i saw Ben was on Bet on Jazz w/this performance & it BLEW me away. The end when he does "Like a King" has SO much energy. Heck the whole show did. WOW!
Ben was the one who fnally saved me from despair during the musically BLAND decade that was the '90s. Man, was he ever a breath of fresh air the first time I heard him nearly 10 years ago...
I remember seeing Ben around this time and before, when he was playing around San Francisco and Davis. He was so mild mannered when you talked to him, but when he got on stage he was possessed! Thanks for the vid!
Awesome, much better than the music video, makes me wonder how much of what I see on MTV isn't better before it goes through that whole grind. Probably _everything_.
I've just discovered Ben Harper. I thought he was a stupid MTV musician... OOOOH was I wrong! He makes great 70's influenced music! And what a great live performer he is!
For anyone trying to find this for sale its sadly impossible to find since the rights for this performance is only granted for limited commersial use on certain television networks. Perhaps they will change the rights in the future or someone with a recorded tape choose to release it online but otherwise its not possible im afraid.
haha i was just wandering if there was a particular model was is playing, but realised that he more than likely got it custom made. I wish I could buy it!
how does he do that thing with the guitar at the end? when he left the stage it was still going...amazing. purely amazing. i like listening to his live stuff much more than the studio stuff.
Hey, great song. Does anyone know the proper tuning for this song on guitar? All the tabs online say CGCGCE but when I play it like that it doesn't sound right somehow. Would appreciate the proper tuning if anyone knows it guys?
@loveablemeggy - It's just the guitar feeding back; there's some effect on it....a delay or a flange or something, I dunno'...but it's basically just feedback.
