I first saw him open for Pearl Jam in North Carolina about same time. Maybe 1996 or 97. Like you said. Life changing. When he did excuse me mr. and on down. Then another lonely day. I love bass player also
I agree with you on the fact that Jimi and SRV are untouchable when it comes to blues/rock, but I really don't think it's easier to play voodoo chile on slide, you have to be honest and admit Ben's cover is really incredible^^
@nvsd270 Dude...dude. Jimi wrote recorded this song in 68, Stevie was born in 54......are you telling me he wrote this when he was 14 or younger?Jimi wrote it. Or are you just being funny. You better not say that in public.....that is embarrasing really.
If all Music of dead Composers and Musicians wasn't get played again life, we just could listen to Compact Disc or Vinyl of what had happened before. To me this sounds good.
Interesting take on a classic . Maybe he shouted out to Double Trouble(which I didn't even notice) because they were on the bill at Bonneroo. They do still tour once in a while. And this was Slight Return , the version they did with SRV , rather than the original Voodoo Chile , which I like better. But , anyway , EVERYBODY knows it's a Hendrix tune.
When you guys get up and play it in front of 30000 people, you can dedicate it to whomever you want. Who wrote the song has nothing to do with it at all, only who influenced him to play it, or maybe to play guitar for that matter. It's a personal thing, so don't judge. Word.
I have been playing guitar for 15 yrs geezer and I am telling you it is easier to sound like ben is here on a slide than it it to reproduce the magic Jimi on a conventinal strat!!But bens cool in his own way, man.Otherwise I wouldnt be watching.Someone said it was better than Jimi thats why I responded
@nvsd270 Voodoo Chile and Voodoo Child are two complety different songs. Voodoo Chile is a 15min during blues song, where as Voodoo Child(using the wah wah) is the song that Ben Harper and SRV covered. They both appeared on Electric Ladyland in 1968
The crew that think Ben was being dis respectful to Jimmi are very silly indeed. Do you really think a musician of this calibre doesn't know that Jimi wrote the song.......did you thimk he might have been playing at Stevie's home town!! Silly buggers!!
Shoulda been to Jimi I reckon, dont get me wrong,I think SRV was good in his own way but if hes gonna dedicate a song to SRV why not an SRV song lol not a bloody song from Jimi and then he dont even mention Jimi O_o RIP JIMI HENDRIX!!
@janiee32 Bullshit. Hendrix wrote it look it up. SRV even says he played it as a tribute to Hendrix. SRV was only 13 when Jimi recorded it so highly doubtful a 13 year old wrote something for Hendrix even if it was SRV.
stevie wrote the original, note jimi hendrix's version is called Voodoo Child (slight return) where as stevie ray's is called Voodoo Chile, also dated earlier than jimi's recording
Yes, SRV and Hendrix are truely great, but Ben is a more complete musician with a more talented band. Plus he isnt all freaked out on drugs killin himself. But thats just my opinion.
Ben knows who wrote this song! SRV was the only one who could hold a candle to Jimi's version...why do you think theres so few covers of it? You got to have skills to do this tune justice! and Bens wearing it out on Lap Steel!!! 'Nuff Said!
Live music - why on earth does it matter to you whether (or not) they have used the bassline from kashmir in the middle? It could be deliberate (ben is a big LZ fan) or it could be chance (they're only notes after all y'know) - either way methinks your terms of reference are maybe a trifle narrow - this is brilliant - great band (juan nelson is a wkd bassplayer)
I'll NEVER forget seeing Ben perform this song live in 98. Truly life changing...
I first saw him open for Pearl Jam in North Carolina about same time. Maybe 1996 or 97. Like you said. Life changing. When he did excuse me mr. and on down. Then another lonely day. I love bass player also
hes a sick lapsteel guitar player with alot of feeling, this is the real deal!
kashmir riff during the middle of the song is sick
I could def. jam out to this....
Closest thing to Hendrix our lifetime will ever fucking know.
God....what a song, what an artist....
11 people didn't like that he took up their sweet time. don't worry he'll give it right back, one of these days.
Fantástico
it comes from the soul maaaaan .....
Man oh man, hell that was good!
I agree with you on the fact that Jimi and SRV are untouchable when it comes to blues/rock, but I really don't think it's easier to play voodoo chile on slide, you have to be honest and admit Ben's cover is really incredible^^
GOOD NICE TUNE
@janiee32 Wrong. Jimi Hendrix wrote this in 1968. It was first recorded on Electric Ladyland. Stevie covered it.
VOOOOOOODOOO CHILEEEEE
Sik!!! i like your Style
if Jimi sees this , I think , is really really happy.
From Flow Flow Russian ee~ё blues
eee woodooooooooo
Mad slide guitar gives an authentic Hendrix sound...but Hendrix did it without the aid of slide, wow
total toll
indeed
voodoo slide !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Voodoo Child suddenly became "Kashmir"
And then back again. Awesome live cover
Isn't it, around minute 4:50 kashimir sounds? (Led Zeppelin)
I think it's really interesting that he dedicated it to Stevie Ray and not Hendrix.
Yeah right what's up with that
Maybe anniversary of SRV passing.
hendrix was god..no one will ever be that good...nice cover
what's the name of Ben's hat?
@nvsd270 Dude...dude. Jimi wrote recorded this song in 68, Stevie was born in 54......are you telling me he wrote this when he was 14 or younger?Jimi wrote it. Or are you just being funny. You better not say that in public.....that is embarrasing really.
LMFAO
im a big fan of srv but it stung a little that it was not dedicated to jimi...
Holy shit, this is an army! Ben Harper is the most versatile, dynamic and plural musician of this generation.
+cronologicainfo Yes man you're right, he does everything and he does it well !
A little Kashmir in there too by Led Zep is what I hear also
geniale l'inserto di una canzone dei Led Zeppelin, ad un certo punto. La creatività di Ben Harper , comunque, non ha confini.
Harper playng like Hendrix and finish with Zeppelin - Kashmere. Nice!!!
DDDDDDDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this guys got some MAD skills! frickin amazing!
@janiee32 Jimi wrote this song. Though it has evolved from previous blues son "Catfish Blues", it's jimi's.
RIP Jimi, RIP SRV!
the part where it goes into Kashmir is pretty sweet too this guy is just plain amazing
If all Music of dead Composers and Musicians wasn't get played again life, we just could listen to Compact Disc or Vinyl of what had happened before.
To me this sounds good.
Voodoo Chile and Kashmir.....Pure Goodness!!!!!!
First saw Ben at Horde about 1995 or so. He's an absolute fav of mine since that day. He like to just jam out on stage and it's great to listen to.
Kashmir thrown in the middle that was cool!
Interesting take on a classic . Maybe he shouted out to Double Trouble(which I didn't even notice) because they were on the bill at Bonneroo. They do still tour once in a while. RIP JIMI HENDRIX!!
This is soo good... Man he can play slide, and props to for respecting Stevie Ray. Harper shreds.!!
@janiee32 Bullshit. Hendrix wrote it look it up. SRV even says he played it as a tribute to Hendrix. SRV was only 13 when Jimi recorded it so highly doubtful a 13 year old wrote something for Hendrix even if it was SRV.

semplicemente impressionante!!!!!!!!
imagine jimi walking out then srv 2 minutes later.......'were not dead!'
My heart is always with "Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals", I never get sick of nothing in this world" This is my medicine, HARD 💗
O.O...
the little baby on bass is marvelous...Kashmir !?!
hey Jimi did you know this BLACK band? "Ya man I knew them in the sixties"
O.O
SRV's versions of jimi's songs are only inferior because he didn't write them. But the bloke's covers trail not far behind. Farrken magic.
Anyone who gave THIS a thumb's down doesn't know their ASS from a very deep hole in the ground! Find another planet!
what guitar is that?
Is it the same as playing regular slide guitar or is it in a totally different tuning with different strings?
@deltablues4 looks like he raised his hand but doesn't appear the ball came to him,it went up and down.not sure its a ball??
Its most likely Open C (C-G-C-G-C-E)
Ben likes to play around with tunings though, so it could be any kind of open tuning.
Fuckin' great version !! Slide guitar Ben Harper's play is awesome !
Jimi hendrix srv Kenny Wayne shepherd ben harper etc..... no matter who plays that song jimi hendrix did it first period
This is a really sick jam! Just got into Ben Harper, didn't know he did this stuff!
still a great version of the song .....
cazzaeokag ... il bassista gliela da di brutto!@@
Harper......sempre!
His conviction is unmatchable..
Erm, Metallica, Motorhead, and lots and lots of others. What the fuck kind of metal do you listen to?
7:33 Even McConaughey came
Jimi did it with a real guitar,no slide,oh yeah and he wrote the fuckin tune for fuck sake!
You know the original song name is 'Voodoo Chile Slight Return', right? The one by Hendrix?
its not 9 peeps its a 11 oops wrong pun. It's 5 days ago. do you remeber where you were?
The part from 3:50 to 4:10 is sick shit!
@iol8 or RATM's "wake up" the soundtrack from the matrix wich is very similar.
4:17 anyone else hear the bassline to Kashmir?? haha epic
When Ben cover the classics is bigger than the biggest!!!!!!
sounded like ratm to me (bass line) on the breakdown bit in the middle
No! Ben! It's Voodoo 'Chile' !!
Not child! Still, nice performance.
During the solo the man on the bass is playing Led Zeppelin's Kashmir
FUCKING RAWK! They played some Kashmir in there toward the middle
His slide work is pretty badass!
fucking awesome
why he talk of stevie ray vaughen before he play vodoo chile ?
in the solo I heard some kashmir - led zeppelin in basline tbh
He's good, but he doesn't hold a candle to the real thing.
Ben knows who wrote this song! SRV was the only one who could hold a candle to Jimi's version...why do you think theres so few covers of it? You got to have skills to do this tune justice! and Bens wearing it out on Lap Steel!!! 'Nuff Said!
A few covers😂
You need to get out more
Great cover. A little bit of Kashmir thrown in.
how are you gona dedacate voodoo chile to srv
When is the next UK tour?..... Ben, you are the shit!
I miss juan. Love to juan. Take care!
Holy shit. 11 out of 10 right there.
I could totally handle the percussionist's job on this one!
sticksman1979 no, you could'nt
simply Voodoo spirits , the bass too
i know that, but he should have done an SRV song
Is this from the 1st Bonnaroo? If so I was there yo.
Yes Jimmy wrote this but if you have ever heard S.R.V. you would understand why Ben dedicated it to him. RIP Jimmy and Stevie Ray.
@Joaomota87
ahahaha!!!! FLYING LEON MOBLEY!!!
Live music - why on earth does it matter to you whether (or not) they have used the bassline from kashmir in the middle? yeah Ben create himself his own custom guitar
pas mal......j adore la reprise...
Every band should have a fat bass player !
Dedicate the song to the guy who wrote it.
This never gets old.
hahah ok dude. smoke some weed and chill.
