  • I have decided to pursue a hysterectomy and will be getting it within a year and a half, probably. I'm also pursuing lower surgery (metoidioplasty, I think), so I will try to get the hysto at the same time as that.

Good for you. I had one this summer. I had an estrogen driven cancer and so it was good on many levels. I didn’t realize just how happy & at peace I would feel having that gone. It was an unexpected bonus. So good to see you again.

Hey Earl! Nice to hear from ya. That's good to hear... I look forward to feeling that peace!

I was glad to see your update! I’ve been leaning towards meta myself without being sure of which option (meta vs. phallo) would be best for me. I would be interested to hear more about your thought process.

Thanks! Cool, I'll be sharing some of my lower surgery thoughts sometime soon.

Had a hysterectomy for fibroids around 1990 when surgery was more invasive. Friend had a hysterectomy a few years later and the uterus was extracted via a couple of little incisions. Yours should also be of the less invasive kind so fewer worries about recovery. Good luck on your medical search.

Thanks! Yeah, I will be getting a mostly laparoscopic hysto.

Oh - needles. I order online but also get them from my local trans resource center and their needle exchange program and it’s free.

Awesome dude. I'm also interested in getting hysto as I've basically been getting what you've described for years (I'm on the progesterone pill which stops monthlys but also can cause mood swings and general ickyness down there). It seems to have gotten worse at certain points now I'm on T. In terms of bottom surgery I'm also interested, although moreso in phalloplasty. It's strange in that I'm having top surgery in the next couple of months, but I'm going to talk about other surgeries at my next appointment to get the ball rolling. I guess I'm planning ahead?

I've heard from transwomen that progesterone is basically the hormone of depression! Sounds awful. Well, planning ahead sounds like a good idea. :) Good luck!

Getting hysto would be a really good decision. Buck Angel recently wrote a column at bust dot com. TH-cam shadowbans comments containing URLs so I'm gonna quote a part of the article very relevant to the topic.
"Unlike some trans men, getting a hysterectomy never felt as urgent to me as top surgery. Don’t get me wrong; I hated getting my period, but taking testosterone took care of that. I was fine with keeping my uterus, ovaries, and vagina intact.
After about 11 or 12 years of taking testosterone, I started getting cramps, mostly after orgasms. Sometimes they were like bad period cramps, and other times, they’d make me double over in pain for hours. Finding a gynecologist who would even agree to see me was difficult enough. But actually going to the gyno as a man with a vagina was excruciating. They would give me a pap smear and tell me everything’s fine, that the cramps would eventually stop, but I could read between the lines. They didn’t really know how to treat me. They just kept sending me home.
However, things kept getting worse. After about 15 years on testosterone, I felt a fever coming on one day after my workout, like I was getting the flu, and the next thing I knew I was passed out on the floor. My then-partner rushed me to the emergency room with a 101-degree fever and rising. (We were living in Mexico at the time.) Luckily, the doctors admitted me immediately and began treating me without question. They also got to the bottom of my ongoing problems, which were much worse than what my previous gynos thought.
As it turned out, the testosterone had atrophied my reproductive system. The atrophy fused my uterus and my cervix together, along with my ovaries and everything else, creating an infection that burst and became septic. The gynecologists who kept sending me home and telling me nothing was wrong could have prevented this from happening if they knew anything about trans men and testosterone."

I buy needles and syringes in bulk online (from Allegro medical). Saves a ton of annoyance!

I was going to suggest this too! I use Healthykin.com and I got a 2-year supply for like $60. Much cheaper and easier than dealing with the pharmacy!

I want to get hysto as well. But not meta bc testosterone actually makes intercourse feel way better than estrogen ever did.

Once you have the hysterectomy, will doctors alter your dose of T or give you estrogen in order to manage being in instant menopause? Or does taking T minimise your estrogen production already & prevent menopause symptoms? I guess what I'm asking is, is there a difference for trans men on T from women after they have a hysterectomy & are suddenly in the menopause?

From my experience, T already lowered my estrogen. Sometimes, I have heard that doctors have to adjust your T to account for not having androgen making substances. often, doctors will up the T dose. The difference is that women are used to estrogen levels with a bit of T. Transmen are used to higher T levels and much lower E levels.

Your proposed plan sounds good and well thought out. The full histo. is not that big of a deal these days with laparoscopic surgery. Typically doctors are required to ask about issues such as egg withdrawal and freezing, sort of like a legal disclaimer action. Since you've never had any desire for kids there is no reason to allow others to make you doubt those feelings in this very pro-natalistic society. Some might say it doesn't make sense to bare a child in a world collapsing due to climate change. Additionally, kids add to one's carbon footprint, especially if they go on to have they own kids. Most parents never consider such issues.
I know of several people who are far less regular with their T dosing. You seem to be doing pretty good with it. In California one can order sterile syringes and needles through Amazon.com, or from manufactures like BD Syringe. Typically, they are sold in packs of 100 but the prices are very reasonable in such bulk quantities. Just search for hypodermic syringes and hypodermic syringes. That way there is no chance you will be short of those supplies for quite awhile.
I think your self-sterilization technique was fine for rare occasions. The best alcohol to use is 99% isopropyl alcohol and then follow that with rigorous shaking to rid the needle of the residual liquid. Then dry them throughly while covered to prevent recontamination. The best cleaning should take place right after use, before any blood, or other material has had a chance to dry in the confined spaces where they might develop bacterial infections. That should be followed by storage in a sterilized zip-lock bag to prevent contamination from air-borne, or insect borne, bacteria and viruses. .

Thanks for the instructions for sterilizing syringes! That makes me think that maybe I should have Googled it before doing it. haha. oops. And that's good to know about buying syringes online... maybe I will do that.
