When I first obtained my licence. I bought a used Icom hand held. £180 , very good with months I bought a Quansheng off the internet for £12.00 I still have both in working order. 12 years later
I think chinese brands are giving the old heads (yaesu, icom, kenwood) a run for their money! Hopefully we start seeing more features and economic options from these higher tier brands.
When I started out, I had Wouxan, Anytones, etc. nice cheap radios that did what I needed. Got me on the air and didn’t cause issues. Got an icom (or three) now, but those radios let me get on air and see if I enjoyed the hobby without breaking the bank.
Things we buy for fun/hobby use don't necessarily need to be of the highest quality, and often we end up having more fun with the cheap stuff than the expensive stuff because we don't want to damage the good stuff. What's important for people to keep in mind is the difference between equipment we play with vs tools we use in a serious situation. There's a pretty equal tug of war between people who think all Chinese radios are junk and those who think cheap radios are what a person should have for serious use, and they're both wrong.
we get taxed on aliexpress in the states. i still use them. many dont understand their Japanese radios are made from components made in China. and more and more japanese brands are making radios in china. someone was talking about thier ft65 and how it blows those chinese radios away. i asked em to show the label of their radio and it said assembled in china
People say the same about the cheap diesel heaters. I live on a boat and for £100 it’s done me two winters, approaching the third. Folk on my marina spend more than that per year on a service for their German Webasto or Eberspacher. Same can be said for guitars. I have Chines made Gretsch which retails at £600. My last one was a “high end” Japanese made Gretsch which retails at £3500…..I defy any player to tell them apart in a blindfold test.
Talking sense Andreas! I wouldn't have gotten into the hobby if the only radios available were £500 to £700 for a HT. It starts with the baofeng... Or even a Wouxon...
To be fair, if it wasn't for the cheaper items on the market, our hobby would have died along time ago. Not everyone can afford a £1000 radio, we buy whats available to our budget, nobody forces us to buy therm and they shouldn't be chastised for doing so. buy what you can afford.
Chinese radios are great, for hams like me I’d simply be priced out of the hobby without the Chinese radio equipment. Yes it’s generally not the same quality as Yaesu and Icom, but it works and Chinese equipment will only get better over time. I have a Xiegu G90, probably one of the best ham radio that exists in my opinion. Thanks for the video👍
China produces some good quality equipment, but like any brand, be prepared to pay more for quality. I own quite a number of hand held radios, many of them China sourced from ALI express. Some are really good and great to use, others are let down by rubbish firmware or poor spurious emissions (sometimes both). To blanket state that all Chinese radios are rubbish is just simply wrong.
I Have close 10 Radios _ all Chinese and all have performed fantastically. I've also bought a Yaesu "Used" on eBay and still paid more for that than a new Chinese radio ended selling the Yaesu and got 2 other Chinese ones... LOL, Couldn't see any benefit in spending the Extra money for the same end result..
Some Yaesu are made in china but QC will be up to their standards, baofungs are substandard and have been for years but I have one and my icoms and yaesu. Horses for courses.
Well said nothing wrong with Chinese produces try finding a Uk company that will make a £15 RADIO GOOD LUCK WITH THAT I wish we had these prices years ago
Not all Chinese radio's are junk. Take a look at the Anytone DMR hand portables. Yaesu sell two hand portable radios, made in china. I had one I used mobile for 3 years. And it never went wrong.
I own two Anytones and while the hardware is pretty solid, the firmware is kind of kludgey, full of inconsistencies and minor flaws. They are also considerably more expensive than Baofengs and the like. It doesn't stop me from using and enjoying my 878 & 578, as well as gear from Baofeng, TYT, Tidradio, Quansheng, Xiegu, etc. Everything has its place. I'm old enough to remember when "Made in Japan" was the mark of low quality and Americans looked down at their products the way some now sneer at Chinese products. Of course now Japan is know for superior quality and as Chinese industry continues to improve, they will get there as well.
quick question. is there a way to increase the time the Splash screen info when the radio is turned on? working with the DM-1701 with open GD77. just curious if this time can be altered.

Yes all has an affect .

Completely agree
I have two 4 year old UV 5R's. I see no need for any other Ham handys.

Lower price doesn't mean sub standard
What substandard? The price? All my cheap radios passed spectral purity testing and work just the same as the hundreds of dollars radios.
I have a few hand helds a 4m and 2m/70cm rig and theres no complaints from me!
Thanks for watching
Health is wealth.
Life
Oh and other things do matter…a boat if that’s your home😁
ok

Lol yes
Most people are watching your video on a device made in China…….
Lol yes

My Yaesu FT65 was made in China.
Great set
I see no problem buying a Chinese radio. Just goes to show you how much profit the big three radio companies are making.
They are a business
Thank. Nice video
Thank you too

What is splash screen
@HamTechRadioScannerDrones when you turn on the radio the initial screen that shows your call sign and name. It stays on for .5seconds
My Yaris is pound for pound better than any super car 😎✊
Yes nice example
My cheap 800hp F-150 beats supercars. 😂
I just folded a sheet of paper into an airplane that pound for pound is better than anything Boeing or Airbus makes!
C4FM, D-Star & DMR are open source. China only makes a DMR radio. Lets get China to build a YSF & DMR radio.
Not sure it's open source.
Not sure what you want here. YSF and DMR both use C4FM, so yes China could make you a YSF radio, but not a wires-x compatible radio.
@@davewalker7126 DMD does not use C4FM. Technically, both DMR and YSF make use of 4FSK though, as does NXDN. Splitting hairs! 😁
