      During the lead out session, it sounded like there was a moment they sounded like a reflection of the classic hymn where it’s sung or played “praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!” That tone was phenomenal. Also the 2nd set up with the compressor sound great and so did the wah combo following (I took snap shots in order to keep it together). Thanks also for that 80s throwback sound.

    I’ve watched this video twice. I love this guy’s tone. The small tone samples really transport me to a more peaceful place. I love this guy’s tone and taste. Very beautiful cleans. Very chimey with a lot of definition. I love the Jan Ray to Klon to Ultraphonix gain progression with the SSS to give it a little more thickness and clarity. Very very tasteful. I’ve honestly never heard a more beautiful tone. I can’t believe I typed all this wow.

    This video also verified my preference of running compression AFTER my gain pedals (I’m not crazy after all-lol). I also have the Waza Dimension C and it’s my desert island pedal! Boss hit it out of the park with it!

    That is a wonderful video. The playing and the board, so sweet without being sickly, no noise without using a switcher or noise-gate, able to provide drive and depth while still being sensitive to multiple bands, multiple foldback situations. And no time wasted in the conversation. Top marks all around. And of course I really want a sturdy, hinged, aluminium 2-tier board . :) Thanks.

    I loved your explanation of how the compressor after the gains kind of "simulates" better the signal chain in a recording situation, after the amp's mic.
    Applying the same concept to bass, would you have a compressor right after the bass for the DI sound to simulate the bass going direct to the board and on the amp the compressor would be after the gains?

    As someone on the worship circuit, I can say that some of the most elaborate and expensive boards I’ve ever seen has almost always been in the praise and worship world. There is a specific kind of sound that is kind of “The Edge” inspired. These days amps are starting to disappear on stage and it’s either in an ISO box or direct from a amp/cab sim.

    I understand he has it there for volume swell purposes but by placing the boost where he does in the chain does that then cause his other drive pedals to push the boost into clipping?
    I run an LPB-1 always on before my drive pedals, basically I'm just wondering if I could benefit from switching it to behind my drives

    • @VertexEffectsInc
      @VertexEffectsInc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, not if the boost has a lot of headroom, which our does. Our boost can't be clipped by any guitar gear, not even some pro audio gear. It's running +/- 12V rail to rail so you'd need some really hot line level signals to clip it, and even then it would be difficult. The LPB-1 isn't efficient like that, so it would clip in some cases, if you want to run a boost and not have any clipping from other pedals before it you need to go with something real high quality and high headroom like ours, the Creation Boost (Creation Audio Labs) is also very good for this if you didn't want to go Vertex.

    EVERYONE should at least try running overdrive before the compressor, it actually sounds way better, adding some dynamics and attack that you just can’t get the other way around. I use a noise gate to mitigate the added noise, which isn’t noticeable while playing, for me at least. My compressor is always on, and I’ll add overdrive as needed. You get more sustain this way as well…

    • @M0M...
      @M0M... ปีที่แล้ว

      There are pros and cons to both. When the compressor is after, you get more noise (like you said). Also, your compression levels will change drastically as you switch through gain stages (because of the volume differences). Clean tones would most like barely hit the compressor, making it pointless in those moments. I do like the way it feels after since you get the full dynamics of the ODs, but there is no perfect answer

    As if Keye Luke was saying, "Much to learn here, Grasshopper." Raise your hand if: "I didn't want to have to hit multiple buttons" is familiar. So he mastered the subtleties of pedal stacking - where subtlety is everything IMHO, like reverb into delay. Pedal board building could make a Karen out of Gandhi - so tempting to just give up and go multi effects unit, but you just can't get those darn subtleties. Other standouts: "wide" v "tall" "stand out without being louder" and the idea of guitar parts serving and supporting rather than shredding.

    People can hate on worship music or pedalboards for this genre all they want but it’s way easier to set up a rock or metal gig than it is to play worship gigs. Who cares about amp hiss and 60 cycle hum at a rock or metal show?! Nobody!
    But playing ambient music to set a certain mood is definitely tricky with stage lights and single coil pickups and noisy pedals or power sources that aren’t ideal. It’s definitely an art form that takes a lot of time, money, and tweaking vs rock gigs where the noise is part of the experience.

    • @VertexEffectsInc
      @VertexEffectsInc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think to play either genre well and get good tones you need to take time and care into the process. I think to oversimplify either genre is problematic and not in the spirit of musicianship. Most of the best players I know, in any genre, are generally not hating on other people's music or tastes as they know the difficulty it takes to master a musical genre, no matter what it is.
