‘Driver: San Francisco’ has THE best driving mechanics out of any driving/racing game I’ve ever played, (cockpit mode). I don’t know how accurate it is physics wise, but it just “feels” right.
Actually even SF the shift mechanic looks an awful lot like the character switch. GTA IV ripped off driver 1’s physics too. Even though it could be chalked off as a mere coincidence for V since San Andreas was originally meant to also have the character switch feature. I love both series dearly and wish they would make another Driver game. San Francisco is a masterpiece but narratively it makes it very hard to make a sequel without making some plot threads redundant. How can they yet again justify the shift mechanic without making it corny…
I remember playing this way back when i was a teenager. Would love to see a remaster or even a remake of this on today's consoles. Bet it would look amazing!
I’d absolutely LOVE to see Driver, Road Rash and Twisted Metal franchises revived and standing strong nowadays! There are SO MANY awesome “old” titles that desperately need attention, but that still get ignored in the name of particular agendas and/or particular interests… sad times!
@@duckysingleton4712 Unfortunately, that developer is the same one responsible for Destruction Allstars, plus I’ve heard it’s also going to be free-to-play! 🤮
I loved Driver: Parallel Lines, the gameplay was fun, the map was big enough, with enough to do and the missions were also pretty good. But the best aspect without a doubt was the story and the two time eras. Sure, it was a simple crime story about the rise, fall and revenge of a getaway driver but it was well-written with interesting characters and good twists and turns. If they would remake it or make something with a similar story, I would certainly buy it...
@@hethpot1038 Yes, that was a fine surprise; the way the world has changed in the 26 years, all the new vehicles, the new weapons and the revenge plot that starts from this point. The game did an excellent job of portraying the effects of being imprisoned for so long at such a young age (TK is 18 in 1978) and re-enter a world that has been transformed.
Yeah I enjoyed it as well. I played the Xbox version, and never really had issues. I was 11 when the first one came out, and I'm still in that garage lol.
"and it seems highly unlikely that those engines will ever rev again." Well it's not like Ubisoft just announced a Live-Action Series Adaptation last month... #ReDriver
It's actually better than a game now. Live action release is awesome as long the live action stay loyal with the plot of Driver. Now GTA won't be able to roast Driver again, unless they screw it up.
The original driver was amazing I remember running from cops and doing jumps you would fly forever in the air it was amazing one of my all-time favorite games growning up
Garage mission in Driver 1 is not a tutorial, it is in fact a test. There's separate tutorial missions found thru the driving games menu. Had they made the game to suggest training games before venturing into Underground-mode, it would have helped so much back in the day.
Absolutely loved Driver San Franscisco. I knew many of the lines in the scenes even before getting the game since i watched the walkthrough many times. The driving was awesome as well the cars 💯
Will they remastered new and approved drivers games for these coming up years???? I will love to see drivers 1 , 2 and 3 remake for the ps5 hope to see it happen in the future
Matt McMuscles already explained in one of his videos that Atari pushed Reflective Interactive to release Driv3r in a incomplete buggy broken state to compete with Grand Theft Auto San Andreas essentially landing a killing blow to the entire franchise that never recovered from
@@ShutterSpeedGaming The first Assassin's Creed started out as a PoP game in development then it went in another direction. Same thing occurred with the first Watch Dogs. What's your point?
Watch Dogs isn't really doing to well. It has a good fanbase but the games downgrade in quality. Innovative ideas but everything else for Watch Dogs suffers. Example Watch Dogs Legion had the play anyone feature which is a innovative feature but the rest of the game sufferes due to Ubisoft and how they barely finish their games.
I never played the prior Driver games but I did play San Francisco and it was AMAZING so unique to play multiplayer matches jumping from car to car to reach objectives.. BUT they made the mistake of releasing a free demo that gave players access to multiplayer servers and matchmaking with other demo players. The demo was never taken down so for the entire lifetime of the game, most people including myself and my friends just got together on the free demo. The same problem happened with Grid 2 I never bought the game because the multiplayer demo was just so good already.
I enjoyed driver 1 a lot as a kid. I don’t remember if I passed that ridiculous test but I probably just drive around in free roam mode. That’s how I played all the first open world GTA games lol. I was a kid I didn’t know better
Parallel Lines is still my favorite is my first game on PS2 with Driver 2 for PS1 I love play both in these days also Driv3r I like is fun buggy shit and Driver 1 is also fun to play in these days
Yes specially Rockstar has no serious competition. Volition has turned against their fanbase. True Crime died even after a underated game known as Sleeping Dogs. Watch Dogs is well dead. Basically there is no real competition for Rockstar to give a run for it's money.
It's so strange that the series died after the Driver: SF (which was the best in the franchise) and not after poor games like Driver 3 or Driver: Parallel Lines.
How were the sales though? I’ve absolutely no idea but I feel like the others sold well enough to warrant sequels just because they were going the GTA route and obviously there were games like the Getaway out and that so I feel they road that wave and the Internet not quite being what it was back then that a lot of people got the games either based on the old ones or screenshots in like PSM2 magazine or something. Whereas I feel a lot of people might have unfortunately give San Francisco a miss A. Because of the story that he was basically dreaming and possessing cars and B. It wasn’t the GTA kind of thing? Because as good as the game was it was a hard sell on the face of it really. I know I had absolutely no interest in it until my mate was so desperate for me to play it that he forced me to lend it from him and then only playing it do you realise how good it actually was.
San Francisco was terrible! I cant even get out of the car?! They took the best part of the game and ruined it. And turned it into some scifi BS. Biggest let down of any game I’ve ever played
Watchdogs had some of the worst driving mechanics in an open world game. How the hell was that born from the Driver franchise 🤣🤣. Driver needs to return to it's original premise of get away driver sim, with a focus on physics and vehicle destruction. Everything else is just extra nonsense.

This game is how I learned that word lol I had to look it up in the dictionary
I had to edit the .ini files to get past that so I could freely drive around with all the vehicles unlocked.
I loved the 1st Driver and the car physics were the most realistic I'd ever seen.
@@CrzYbaDmutha2245 It was also fun chasing down escapees in pursuit mode as well.
Ehh driver 3
I love driver parallel lines its was fun in 1978 and 2006 both eras were great
Driver is to GTA as Medal of Honor is to Call of duty.
and Virtua Fighter to Tekken
I’d say different to Driver SF rest I agree with

The hand movement and animation on the steering wheel is the best up to this day, even forza H5 can't match it
