      1. Technically, it's the second game. The Tragedy of Hope's Peak Academy was the trial run for the mutual killing game, where the student council (plus Izuru) killed each other.
      2. Don't make them feel bad about themselves just because they don't think they can write. Maybe Sho was done badly. I honestly don't care, she's still my favorite character so far in the series (currently rivaling with K1-B0 and Kokichi tho) and split personality serial killers are a whole trope. Is it degrading? Yes, I'm not arguing with that. Is Sho still a good character? Idk what you think, but I'd say yes. All the characters have different reactions to living amongst a serial killer, Sho has different reaction to the characters, and she spices everything up a bit. Sure, her reveal was a bit forced by Byakuya, but she ended up being good in the end. (And UDG would have been rather plain without her.)

That right there is honestly my biggest problem with Danganronpa V3. They set up such an interesting potential storyline with the whole rule that in the case of two different killers only the first becomes the blackned yet they don't go through with it. Imagine a chapter 4 where the survivors also had to deal with a confirmed killer in their midst. Instead it just turned out the same killer who you figure out halfway through the trial essentially making the second half a complete waste of time.

Maybe we could have San-D make the discovery by accident. Just have him (they never really give a gender, so I'll just refer to it as a male) helping Gundham with looking for hidden evidence, only for him to crawl under and behind the wallpaper; have Hiyoko's body be discovered that way.

@@creppruby I would have rather had this because when you think more about the murder, unless Mikan was secretly the ultimate track runner which is a stretch for even that talent it's near impossible for her to pull down Hiyoko's body.
Think about it, there was a time span of less than 10 minutes, so around nine. Hajime left to get the others which would be around 5-7 minutes, so Mikan pulled the wallpaper off, folded and put it back in the storage, broke a camera, glued a door completely shut, and left to meet up with Fuyuhiko in that time.
Doesn't that seem a bit impossible? Especially making sure a door is completely glued shut. Let's not forget it may have taken less time as she had to search with Fuyuhiko for Ibuki before. It's unrealistic, I feel like San-D discovering the body with Gundham by accident is much better.

No it isn't poorly explained, it is something that couldn't be explained.
In an extreme case like his you'd almost never recognize it.
He isn't going to say that because he doesn't think it, because he was the victim. To have this info makes it incredibly obvious he is the murderer as the more personal life info the more likely we find out he did 100 murders by proxy and figure out he is the guilty party.
Adding this to the trial does nothing as he'd simply deny it being so deep into it. For them to add it requires them to artificially force him to realize it which would be far worse.

@@Buglin_Burger7878 ok, i see where you’re coming from. i wasn’t expecting him to come to a sudden realization or anything like that during the trial. with a situation & character like this it would be hard to tip off the audience in a smooth way.
danganronpa already had some weird unnecessarily incest-y situations (leon’s cousin having a crush on him, mukuro & junko) so at first i thought they were just tacking on that he was “in love” with his sister for shock value. then when i read up on korekiyo it became more and more obvious what was going on, so maybe it wasn’t as bad as i thought when i played through (like 5 years ago)
if they had actually done something with the idea of “if two people kill before a trial only the first one to do it gets executed” that they introduced in the trial they could have had korekiyo live past this trial and dropped more hints or something

V3’s third case had a lot of missed potential there purely from the way they teased the possibility of a second culprit and what would happen. I would’ve loved to see the chemistry shift in the cast if someone else DID kill Angie, and they had to keep living with Korekiyo. That being said, with Kiyo’s freak out and the ending of the case, it remains one of my favorites because I do actually feel a great deal of sympathy towards him. Many people don’t seem to see it, but I believe his sister heavily manipulated and even groomed him, and if she hadn’t had such a great effect on him, I don’t think he would have killed in the first place. Not to mention that his execution made me so, so sad for him.

Right like imagine living with Korekiyo knowing he killed someone, that just had sooooo much potential to make the story rlly interesting, but I guess they only wanted kokichi to be the “antagonist” since having two would be a pain lol

@@rainischalk-late3540 Yeah, but they didn’t have to make Kiyo the antag if he had lived, or at least make him a minor one compared to Kokichi or even have the two work together (though unlikely given Kokichi hates killers). Kiyo being alive could’ve possibly caused a lot of distrust between everyone and Kiyo would be pushed away and would just cause a lot of interesting dynamics. There could even be a plot point where Kiyo knows something important but no one trusts him which would leave the cast in a worse situation because they didn’t listen to him. Kiyo is the character I’m most pissed died because he’s one of my favs and the rule made it seem a killer would live. Having Kiyo be both Angie’s and Tenko’s killer other than just Tenko’s felt lazy too me and I will not stop being mad about it.

My biggest thing against 3rd trials is how one victim is ALWAYS sidelined. There's always one victim who didn't need to be there, could've been replaced with almost any other character, and doesn't get that much focus in the trial itself. I generally prefer when there's a reason for a particular blackened and victim. You can't replace the victim or killer in any of the DR 2nd trials, as the murders are unique to the characters involved. But with 3rd cases, at least one death is so impersonal to the character. Plus, with how complex 3rd trials are, their is no time to explore the emotional response to the death (excluding DR3's third trial). It sucks to see a character you like seemingly be thrown away and nobody in the game has time to really care about said loss.
For me, DR1 is the worst when it comes to this. I know the series is all about despair and all, but it almost feels sadistic to murder Ishimaru like that, when he'd reached his utterly lowest moment. Then, there's absolutly no time to even mourn him for a second, even Hifumi gets a few seconds of mourning. Ishimaru is kinda just...there. Not being important when he had so much potential. It's like shooting a puppy with a broken leg; at some point, I kinda just feel sad more than intrested in how it happened.

    • @rainischalk-late3540
      @rainischalk-late3540 3 ปีที่แล้ว +112

Ishimaru had potential to grow as a character after his closest friend Mondo butter died, but unfortunately the writers HAD to kill someone else, but I still feel like the third trial of the second game does it way worser since literally the writers ALSO threw Hiyoko away, her character had potential to grow after her closest friend Mahiru died, but nope :/

    • @spiritofchaos58
      @spiritofchaos58 3 ปีที่แล้ว +122

@@rainischalk-late3540 I will go to my grave saying that Taka should've lived instead of Hiro and Hiyoko should've lived instead of Sonia
Firstly, it makes NO SENSE to frame Hiro instead of Taka and doing so makes Celete look like a moron. I mean, given the facts of the case (Hifumi and another person killed by someone in a 'Robo Justice" suit), who would you suspect more? The guy who's obsessed with rules, has been very mentally unstable, is known for his intensity and has been replecating the manurisms in a killer for the last several days? Or the cowardly dude who's been chill most of the game? Plus, Taka has a reason to kill Hifumi, while Hiro has no grudge against Taka nor Hifumi. It just makes WAY MORE SENSE to frame Taka.
All this alone is enough to justify keeping Taka alive, but I haven't even adressed the fact that seeing his character develope would simply be more intresting than what we got with Hiro. Taka's such a fun character who gets wasted.
And Hiyoko! I'll admit that I don't like her much (I do prefer Sonia), but even I think she should've lived. She had so much development potential and she really would've rounded the surviving cast out well. As is, the cast as too many comedic characters (Sonia, Akane, and Kazuichi). Swapping her with Sonia would fix that and allow her to develope. Plus, she'd be forced to intreract with Fuyu more.
Sonia doesn't really get to do much throughout the game, so killing her wouldn't be too hard. I do like her interactions with Gundham however, so I'd kill her in chapter 4. Let's say Nekomaru and Ibuki die in CH3, then Gundham kills Sonia in CH4. Hell, maybe Sonia ASKS Gundham to kill her so that everyone else can escape. It would finally put her talent to use, as the Ultimate Princess should be willing to die for her people (or friends in this case).

They could've easily had Tsumugi be the one to create the locked room mystery murder and use her power as the mastermind to pin it on Kork as she felt Angie's takeover would've ruined the ratings of the show, she already pinned Kaede's failed mastermind murder attempt on her to cover up her murder of Rantaro, ontop of having the monokids tamper with any evidence of her involvement so it really wouldn't have been that big of a deal since she's the mastermind and the showrunner.
And yeah I know that chekhov's gun isn't a strict story telling principle to follow but THE NEXT CHAPTER THEY DID JUST THAT WITH THE MONOTARO/MONOPHANIE SUBPLOT BEING A SET UP FOR THE ROBOT WASP USED IN GONTAS EXECUTION

I feel like there's an obvious potential of a 3rd case: just let it be two murderers.
    I imagine something like this:
There is a murder, then, the mastermind (using cameras or something) finds out and decides to kill someone else (for personal reasons, as in: I need to kill this person with my own hands), knowing they can't be punished because a murder already happened.
Then they actually get away with it in the trial, maybe the method is discovered, but not their identity. But the students only need to find out the first killer so there's not much problem.
Later, in the sixth trial, they find new evidence (like in V3) and they re-do that trial to unmask the mastermind.

tbh the 3rd trial cases has the most "interesting" people...it's obvious those three have gone through a shit ton of trauma, especially mikan and kork. mikan was abused and korekiyo was groomed, not sure about celeste but she was living her life a lie...i just hate how it seems to be a throwaway case especially in korekiyo's since they introduced that rule and i wish that the case did have two blackeneds. i also hate the way they're portrayed it seems slimy?? mikan was abused by junko so heavily she thought junko was in love with her and the same with kork and his sister like if they weren't abused i feel like they never would have killed in the first place.
ALSO the way they present their abuse is alike...mikan is seen as the crazy girl who's in love with someone who doesn't exist and korekiyo is seen as creepy incest guy but when you look at the bigger picture you can see the actual issue at hand.

For Celestia- at one point in the game she says something akin to that she gambled everything except for the clothes on her back. While a bit of a stretch you could interpret that as letting some people use her body if you wanna get that dark. Also makes it darker when she (falsely) claims in game that Taka raped her and took pictures. I believe in the anime they watered it down and he “put a hand to her.”

    • @rown2689
      @rown2689 3 ปีที่แล้ว +73

My problem is not their mental health itself, but their portrayal.
Celeste's felt super rushed. You'd expect the ultimate gambler, who pretty made up her entire persona, to not crack so easily.
Mikan's outburst was.... fine. The usage of the despair disease felt cheap, and her execution took a giant shit on her character. Literally fucking orgasmed on a needle rocket and blew up. It's not even tragic, just insulting.
Also, the reveal in the anime that she was quite literally brainwashed through some dumb despair video kinda ruined that part of her character for me.
Kiyo was revealed to be a literal serial killer. That's what ruined it for me. That combined with the seesaw and incest thing just kinda made it feel ridiculous rather than profound.

Celeste's chapter was the worst for me. She was my favorite character up until that point, and her portrayal in Chp.3 did not do her justice. The most frustrating part was that there were actually good ideas in there. From the beginning, she was a calm and 'adaptable' person. So, the reveal that those characteristics were a part of the facade she created was great. Also, they manage to make her both selfish and, subtly sympathetic. Yea, she wanted money, but she was also desperate to leave. "Actually no, Taeko Yasuhiro is fine" and "I can't say I ever saw it that way.." are some of the best character building lines to me. A
All the positives were weighed down by the culprit being VERY obvious (same with Kiyo) and her behavior not aligning with the Ultimate Gambler title. The breakdown during the trial and the murder plan just do not mesh with the Celeste we had seen beforehand. However, I could take the breakdown if it was the result of an well-executed plan being figured out.

I love the 3rd trails, I just love how everyone loses their cool. My personal favorite is Korekiyo..for many reasons. The first reason is..the way he was so quick to pinpoint Himiko as the culprit..and gave very good reasons on why she could be the culprit. I believed his deductions, because they were honestly very smart and clever and he was careful with his words most of the time..but would go quite quiet when being pinpointed. Another reason, that plotwist with his mask..I honestly thought he was a girl, but no..he just wore lipstick and pretended to be his sister. My last reason is because at the near end where he loses it all together. His "APOLOGIZE APOLOGIZE APOLOGIZE" and the scream just had so much emotion into it..it just felt all too real.
I love Korekiyo, even though alot of people don't. He was manipulated by his sister, probably had a mental illness after her death, pretended to be her for comfort, was really calm before being executed (ex: I'll be watching you guys from the afterlife and cheering you on etc) only to be salted by not only Monokuma..but his sister that he thought he loved ever so deeply. Pure and utter despair. Hate him if you want, but I honestly loved him as a character way too much. He was unique.

I think that a lot of the problems with Danganronpa cases come from it being a video game. There has to be overly complex trials in order to have a long game - it doesn't logicaly make sense that you need definitive evidence to prove someone, or that you just get randomly accused if you get a game over. It tries to be like Ace Atourney, except that in that you need evidence because you are in court, plus you gradually gain evidence while in Danganronpa you have all evidence when the trial starts most of the time.

    • @dragonwolftmaer5
      @dragonwolftmaer5 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

I have to agree. Ace Attorney also has the benefit of cases lasting more days so you can explore one option them find new stuff. Plus, watching Dangerompa (I can’t play it due to my disability, but I watch it) a lot of the evidence has to be “bigger”. A lot of times I see a case and go “well that would be solved if they has Fingerprint/Blood testing”. Of course that doesn’t always work, but a lot of the cases could be solved that way. But because they don’t have that the deaths have to be more elaborate so that the game can be long and you can have a mystery. I was baffled by how over the top 3-2 was almost needlessly and I did find it silly. 3-5’s whole mysetry would not have worked if they had blood analysis and the whole thing with 3-1. I won’t spoil, but still. Case 3’s do hace this struggle. I saw someone write that “they always lill a loved and hated character” and I think it’s kind of true. Though for me when Tenko died I felt her development was too little too late for me. With DR yiu know (most) of the players from the start so yes, the later ones get more love, but you also have to dive into so many. I find most motives contrived because you have to explain why seemingly good kids just murder each other (one thing case 3 culprits kind of do right since they’re kind of crazy), but with Ace Attorney you can have some trashy people and never know who to trust since you just met a number of them that case. It has it’s issues too, and while I do like some case threes more than the aversge fan I can see the dislike. I judt personally think Ace Attorney is better at making complex cases that don’t feel like “I moved the body even if that makes it harder, but guess I wanted to inctriminate this one specific person so oops”. I also kind of find the wording tips me off because of the “rules” in 1-3 since Celeste was the one who planned both, but Hifumi killed Taka, Monokuma said “only the mastermind matters” in case 3-3 he said that “only the first victim matters” which kind of made me think Angie and Tenko were killed by the same person, but maybe that was just me. He also acted kind of obvious, and sometimes I like the obvious villains. They can work. I remember one person defending an Ace Attorney case saying showing the villain made the case more fascinating since you knew who just not how. So obvious villains aren’t always bad, just sometimes boting. I also find sone DR things odd. Like being someone who uses sound a lot I find it a bit tricky to believe that the other three woukdn’t have heard Kiyo moving based on his voice coming from a different spot not to mention angle since he was on the ground. You could argue the other three’s voices drowned it out, but I think they were listening since he was the only one memorizing the song. Maybe I’m bias since I like Ace Attorney more, and I don’t mean to rant, but I do agree that Ace Attorney makes the case stystem work better than Dangenrompa a lot of the time.

    • @lukebytes5366
      @lukebytes5366 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Not only that, the trials are where all the action is. Save for a few moments, not many things happen before the case. They essentially have to cram the mystery, drama, and motive all in a singular session. Unlike ace attorney which has plenty of stuff happen outside the trials, and even if there wasn't, theres far more leeway. It's a shock the writers only stumble so hard on double murders.

My problem with the third case of V3 is because of that rule, that only one of the killers would be executed. It would be very interesting to see how the characters would have to act with a killer living with them and it would clearly create some discussions that would be interesting to watch. I don't completely hate the third cases, but I agree that they're not the best ones. However, the only one that I really don't like is the second one, mainly because how one of the victim's death felt like it didn't serve a purpose (Ibuki's), and because the case itself, and what allegedly happened didn't make sense, even in the game world. On the contrary, I actually really like v3's third case, because even though the killer was predictable, it introduced a concept that most of us hadn't considered, that concept being two different killers. Also, Korekiyo's breakdown is _always_ satisfying to watch.

The thing with DRV3's Case 2 is that yeah Kirumi pulled off a near perfect kill but she couldn't just leave Ryoma's body in his lab, the whole point of her motivation was to get out of that situation so she had to pin it on someone to increase the chances of the spotlight not getting on her when suspicion is brought up. Since she knew about the magic show, Himiko (or maybe even Angie to make it seem like Angie was pinning it on Himiko since they were both working on it) was the perfect person to pin it on.
Had she left the body there, then the case and the trial will go nowhere with no concrete evidence to point it to anyone other than "who was last seen with Ryoma" or "who was near his lab last" and even so, the cast would be shooting in the dark trying to guess the blackened (to which, in a sense, would benefit the blackened but at the same time, if you successfully pin it on someone, it accelerates the process of everyone picking the wrong person).
EDIT: You know, now that I think about it, it's so odd no one suspected Angie at all during Case 2 even when she was throwing Himiko under the bus during that trial.
EDIT EDIT: Also regarding DR2's Case 3, I dunno if it's just me but Mikan being the killer was soooooo obvious the moment I saw Hiyoko's body thinking "Yeah, Mikan DEFINITELY murked Hiyoko after how she was treated lmao". Plus the whole hospital thing and Mikan getting a lot of attention that chapter kinda made it too obvious if she wasn't the victim.

Korekiyo: Yeah, well, how was I able to FIND it in the dark, huh?

Korekiyo: Nah, you're trippin'. Give proof.
Shuichi: Okay, fine! You followed the damn line from the corner. Now can we just vote Korekiyo already?

(I've only seen the dr1 anime, this could be different in the game), but the only way they figure out she murdered Hifumi was due to her saying "We are going to die, just like they did." She said that, even though only one body had been discovered. The thing is, she could have been talking about the four other people who had previously died, as it was the third chapter. She went crazy way to quickly, and easily could've won. idk, might just be how I saw it but it frustrates me.

It was fine in danganronpa 1 because it was the first time, but when they decided to do the same thing for the other two games it just made them repetitive. If for example, they would have happened at any chapter besides 3 it would have been better. And they should have also experimented with two culprits and also better motives for the killings. All of them are so silly, i mean come on, hiyoko just happened to bust in at the wrong moment, kiyo could have just stopped after he killed angie (i dont understand why did he have to kill tenko too) and the same can be said for celeste (although i guess it made more sense for her to kill hifumi because she might have feared to get betrayed by him)

Mikan, along with the rest of the cast had fallen into despair before, and they all had murdered people. Mikan was evil, with a motive like everyone else in the danganronpa outside world. For despair. She was quite relevant to the danganronpa world with the despair shenanigans. I think the point with Kirumi's rope trick in v3 was that she wanted to pin the crime on Himiko, so that they'd have a target to vote on. The longer the class trial, the worse it gets, so making an obvious culprit would be the best strategy. Rush the vote, and have people guess wrong before they can think twice. Without a suspect, it leads to blind guessing and hearsay, and from there all it takes is a lucky guess or some stupidly trivial evidence to get yourself voted. It leaves the CHANCE that they just happen on you correctly, and it's a chance not worth taking if you can help it. Kirumi ALMOST helped it.

I actually love the 3rd cases but one stands out as being poorly written. That one being V3-3. I personally would've made Tenko kill Angie, the Korekiyo kill Tenko. This is more interesting because now it's like, well the blackend is dead now so what do we do? This also could've been a growing point for Shuichi because while Monokuma and the Monokubs are freaking out, Shuichi can be like 'Well we still need to find out who killed Angie, even if they aren't the blackend so we can stay away from them. ' There also would be more emphasis on Angie's murder because her's happend first. Tenko's motive would've been the fact that Angie "brainwashed" Himiko. And since Tenko was in the student council, it would've been easy for her to get to Angie's research lab.

In that graphic scene for Korekiyo, they deliberately stated that there was no physically connection, which in this case, can only mean that they weren't physically involved. I think what they were going for Korekiyo was-his sister was in the hospital and couldn't enjoy life, find love, or have friends. So Korekiyo tried to fill that void, he tried to be her lover. He even said that while he could be her lover, he couldn't be her friend, and so he sent her ghost friends. So I believe they were trying to make it less creepy than it came out to be. - Always a pointless double murder. Most times killing one who was going through an arc(Taka and Hyoko)
    - Overaly complicated. And not in a smart way. In a "this makes no sense" or "just dumb" way
    - Always an obvious killer
    - Said killer previously shown throughout the game and trials being helpful and intelligent suddenly turn a 180, become out of character and constantly make themselves suspect. Celeste refused any argument or evidence to prove Hiro's innocence, Mikan kept questioning everything and spoken dialogue to make herself look innocent and Korekiyo just immediately accused Himiko and later just gave up on hiding himself
Pretty much turns a lot of people off the character (Though personally Mikan and Korekiyo are still some of my favourite characters)
    - The motivation is always the worst. Money was lazy and the Despair disease was just forced to make a character do something they wouldn't had otherwise. But it can also be summed up as "they were horny". Celeste wanted her harem of vampire themed servants, Mikan was brainwashed and gay for Junko and Korekiyo wanted to f*ck his sister
    - Each case could of had a small tweak to make it more interesting. Mainly V3. They introduced the idea of 2 killers and they don't do anything with it. Why this one is my most hated. 3rd main series game, could had done something new but instead just rinse and repeat the same bs
Side note I personally love the setting of DR2 because it's not like the 1st game. The whole peaceful and calm setting parallels well with the looming dread of Monokuma, the constant fear someone will die and just the overall weird and bizarreness that's Usami and the mystery of the world

I was thinking Mikan tried to kill Hiyoko but missed and ended up killing Ibuki, then she tried to kill her again but Hiyoko juked her and Sonia died. This would work because of her clumsy self. Also remove those scenes of Mikan sleeping with Hajime and her trying to hard to make an alibi before the trial, that made it wayyy too obvious. The reason I think this should happen is because it wouldn’t make sense for her to not try to get revenge on Hiyoko when there’s 2 victims and getting bullied is kinda her motive, this would also make the murder scenario very unique and interesting.

It would be interesting if something happened that justified the dissaperance of a body and a really messy and distorted crime scene like a fire, then just before the trial, the other person reappears and makes everyone change what they where theorizing about the case having to to take in count the testimony of a witness that could perfectly be the culprit or the key of knowing what happened.

    SDR2-case 3 > THH-case 3 > V3-case 3
Even if Mikan's motive had a dumb name like "Despair Disease", I still liked it because it worked as good foreshadowing to the ending of the game. Aside from Nagito and Izuru, who appear in UDG, Mikan is the only character we got to see as Remnant of Despair, and I think that's pretty cool. Plus, she had a very interesting murder plot with the fake suicide video, even if the part about hiding and then revealing Hiyoko's body was practically impossible to pull off. The only things that I dislike about this trial is Hiyoko dying and Mikan's execution.
Am I the only one who went into Taka and Hifumi's trial 90% sure the culprit was Celeste? The biggest red flag for me was Robo Justice's design, which is something only Hifumi would have come up with. And if Hifumi was pretending to be attacked by Yasuhiro, then Celeste had to be pretending to. But overall, this trial wasn't so bad.
Due to Kiyo's design and personality, I was really hoping he would die as a victim and not as a blackened, because it's not interesting to have a murderer that looks like a murderer. Instead, he turns out to be the craziest and least likeable culprit in the game. I really like the seance scene and Tenko's body discovery, but that's the only redeemable aspect of the case. They spent so little time talking about Angie, it was like her death didn't matter at all.

Could kotoko be credited as a third chapter killer too?
-Long hair like mikan celes and kork
-has a repeated word with trauma/lore attached to it, “gentle”
    -executed third
-tragic abuse backstory (kiyo getting manipulated by his sister, the fact the only person who she cared about, was a cat says enough, mikan getting sexually physically and verbally abused her entire life, and Kotoko being sold as a sex toy by her mother as a child)
    -breaks down in their chapter
-is literally crazy, and has killed many people (celest would be in gambles where whoever loses dies, so I thought I’d explain that)
-obvious it was them (after Masaru and jataro died, it was obvious kotoko was next since Nagisa and Monaca were more important)
-unique design, (mikans choppy hair, celest drills and aesthetic, kiyo’s height aesthetic and mask, +kotoko’s Lolita fashion inspired clothes and impossibly long hair)
Personally I’d include her with them, even though she wasn’t in a killing game

The argument people make about the despair disease in dr2’s case 3 I really don’t mind
Like I see people having a misunderstanding over the despair disease where they think it just rewrites peoples personalities, and while it does change them for Mikan all it did was give her her memories back. And I take this as a lovely bit of foreshadowing, yes in the moment it may feel cheap, but looking back it’s so cleverly done and is an amazing piece of foreshadowing of was this classes fates were

Personally, 3-3 is one of my absolute favorite trials in the entire series, mostly because of the culprit aspect. Korekiyo is I think an insanely interesting and actually also well-fleshed out character, and the trial leaves us with so many clues that can hint towards why Korekiyo ended up as messed up as he is. I honestly had the most fun analyzing the dialogue, especially the scenes with his sister speaking through him, and the research I did afterwards about what could have caused this "split personality" once the trial was over.
This here is now just a theory of mine, so it can have flaws.
It very much seemed to me that his sister was terribly abusive towards Korekiyo due to the pushy tone he uses when he speaks as his sister. She uses quite some phrases that indicate gaslighting or simply her trying to control Korekiyo. Due to this mistreatment, Korekiyo started idealizing her like crazy every time she did something nice for him, like making him his uniform for instance (as he mentions in I think his first friendship event), which also lead to his incestuous love for her. It seemed like he actively refused to realize this abuse.
This is now taken out of thin air, but as far as I know, he never mentions any parents at all - so maybe his sister was also the one who raised him which gives him even more of a reason to idolize her.
But even in his execution, we see stuff that can hint towards abuse. I believe, starting with the whole ghost-stuff, this execution is more a visualization of what he sees in his near-death-experience rather than what is really happening. We can see that his sister seemed to not like him at all as she's banishing Korekiyo's ghost together with Monokuma. It could pretty much be his subconsciousness being well aware of his sister's abuse while he was actively neglecting it and telling himself she loved him just as much as he did. This realization in his final moments made his death even more tragic as he now sees all his murders were in vain, and he should have distanced himself from his sister as soon as he could.
So yes TL;DR: ..... Korekiyo is interesting for sure. He's possibly the result of his environment and the circumstances he grew up in which makes him really a tragic character in my eyes. It seems like the writers put lots of effort into his writing, and it saddens me that it's being overlooked a lot!
... Or I'm just interpreting too many things into him LOL

Thank you for raising the point about V3 Case 2, I've always found the rope business unnecessary and would've taken a shorter trial to avoid it

Me who has a case 3 where the protagonist literally see the murder: *screeches in AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA*
Me realizing that the culprit is actually sympathetic: Oh righ-
Me realizing there are 2 timelines and the other universes isn't and just wants the protagonist to suffer: *AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-*

I clicked on this as an Ace Attorney fan, intrigued by the similarities in "third case syndrome".
I absolutely wasn't expecting my exact thoughts to be splayed across the screen immediately.

Gotta love when videos with possible spoilers in the thumbnail pop up due to the fact that I’m watching a creator who is currently making a series on the game. No better feeling than an unavoidable spoiler.

No spoilers are on the thumbnail, there are characters on the thumbnail but it doesn't necessarily mean they are connected to the third case or doesn't necessarily show how much they are connected to the third case
