That sleep issue is something I noticed on my RG351M as well. It will go to sleep but then you have to press the power button a few times to get it to turn on. And even then, the controls will be locked out as if it's still asleep while the game continues playing. I'm wondering if it's quirk of the OS itself and not the devices, since it's primarily occurred on EmuElec and its derivatives.
Its cool seeing how much more powerful these handhelds have gotten but to me its not powerful enough to justify all the downsides, if gamecube emulation was better and it at least had wifi would make this a million times better
This handheld causes me very mixed feeling. It's a wonder for price and performance, but a shame for many issues (WiFi, no Bluetooth, screen, overall build quality). I both would like to grab it but also feel it doesn't worth... In a certain point of view, this could be intended as a wasted opportunity. If the Retroid Pocket 2S had had this chipset or at least a similar emulation compatibility, it would have been the heaven.

This screen doesn't have touch support, but Citra had/has a feature that allows you to emulate touch on the second screen. That feature was broken in a recent update to the emulator.
They need to rewrite a DSI display driver, and it is a lot of work. It might be easy for someone with experience writing those things, but the JELOS team is upfront that they don't do a lot of low-level work like that. There is an older software package that has a working driver, but it doesn't support JELOS, and a lot of the PS2, GameCube, and 3DS emulation I show here wouldn't be possible on it.
On the Gamecube emulator, how well do the _'Star Wars Rogue Squadron II/III/Rogue Leader/Rebel Strike'_ games run? Back in the day they were the ONLY reason to buy a GC. Two of the best games ever made.
im sure that there is a vsync flag in the display manager config that can easily be added during production or the user can enable, even with the issues, id say this looks great for a hundred bucks
I'm still holding out for full-speed all-in-one GameCube/PS2/PSP emulation before I fork over the goods (and 3DS support would be amazing as well). Given that a lot of these old games already have some minor performance issues when running on their native hardware, having to endure further issues on top of that I think would diminish my enjoyment of the games a little too much for an underpowered system to be worthwhile.

I tried running that on my 3DS and it ran too sluggish to be playable. -My PSP can play PS1 games but I couldn't get Bugs Bunny Lost in Time to work. I was able to play Grandia and Final Fantasy 8 just fine. You can actually play 2 disc games by having isos for both discs and messing around with the memory card settings. You should have shown Spyro as an example. -I forgot the PSP had Assassin's Creed. I heard it wasn't that good. -With the PS2 I could play Ape Escape 2 on the go. Sup Taki. Any info on the Powkiddy RGB30 RK3566? It's on presale, and I'm not seeing ANYONE with a preview unit. That alone is a red flag, but it's got a 4 inch, square (I'm assuming 4:3) screen with a plastic body that I want. I'm drawn to the 405m, but my 351mp is smaller and already too heavy for long play. So the 405 would be heavier and its pricey. RGB30 is on presale for $90. Are you working on a preview? A quick heads up on D-pad and button feel would help me pull the trigger early. Pun intended.
The analog sticks being vertically below the face buttons and dpads instead of being off center makes them very painful to use, especially while trying to use the shoulder buttons at the same time. Very uncomfortable.
Bad move from Powkiddy not making this a wifi capable console when their RGB30 is wifi capable which is much cheaper than this one. Hope the next RGB10Max will be much better. Great console tho.
Great video. I watched the first video; but, I've forgotten if the optional Android build had the screen tearing issues too. I remember it not being as slick aesthetically as JELOS and not having an ability to access the Android nav buttons (no touch screen and no hardware buttons) would be manageable, if a pain. However; if the screen looks better and if certain games like Mario Galaxy play better then it might be worth dealing with. As for me; I've got a nice telescoping controller already so if I wanted a separate handheld I'd put the $120 this commands towards a blacklisted used S20FE off American eBay.

4. Is there any performance or features advantage duckstation standlone offers over swanstation retroarch core?
1.
Really appreciate your warnings on this.
I wish someone did a list of the bill of materials for these handhelds and the other ones that run linux like the Miyoo Mini because i remember that back in 2015 or something, i bought a cheap tablet for $30 or so and that thing emulated nearly every system available at the time. So, with that said, i find it a bit strange the cheapest of these handhelds still doesn't have the hardware similar to one of the cheapest things you could buy more than 6 years ago.
There's no incentive to lower prices because people are comfortable shilling out $70-90 for something that costs ~$30 to build.
@@TakiUdon Well, that's a fair point.
@@TakiUdon everything is relative and maybe i'm out of touch but getting a device that can emulate all of video game history on the go for like $100 to me is totally mad and relative to the market maybe that's a lot but relative to cost for value i just cannot complain at that price point
@@TakiUdon if you pay three engineers for 3 months to design a handheld and only sell 2000 of them, that's a lot of per unit cost right there on top of the bill of materials and per unit manufacturing labour
Software just isn’t where I need it to be to purchase. Thank you for another in depth review!
Love this form-factor, wow.
This seems like a good device for the price. It’s to bad for all the missing features and issues.
Hey Taki, is this more powerful than the RP2+?
Imagine saying something running at 40 fps is running "badly".
I run everything at 30 fps, that looks amazing to me
If the issues are resolved this looks like a nifty little device. It even kinda looks like a retro TV with the buttons below the screen lol.
Appreciate you not glossing over the issues because of the price though. You always do a great job of showing the pluses AND negatives.
So apparently Powkiddy is doing a pre-release for the RBG10Max 3 (NOT PRO) model now, and I was wondering if you had a chance to look into it and determine if there's any significant difference with the Pro version? Seems a bit weird that the Non-Pro version is releasing now, and I'm curious to see if it addresses any of the cons you discussed.
I just received mine yesterday and was able to charge it in about 2 hours using a 20W USB-C PD charger. It didn't feel slow to me at all.
How do you like it?
@@dark-california so far I'm liking it a lot. the screen tear issue is annoying but I am still able to enjoy the games just fine. hopefully it will be fixed soon.
@@desimendoza032 Thats what I have in mind as well
Maybe I should just grab one and ... 🤞
With last Jelos update this handheld is in on the right path. Only better stability on newer systems and working HDMI port to became a top device.
How does this compare to the Retroid Pocket 2S? I feel like the 2s is hard to beat
Can you redo the review with the new updates that have come out for this?
I'm still deciding which hand held I want to buy, I want to get one that can play PS2 and N64 well, but it seems that every hand held has an issue. Either out of box or with specs, or with some other issue like button and joystick configuration.
I am just waiting for the handheld that will deliver on performance ergonomics, pocketability, price and durability.
I am still waiting
12:44 When you say touch screen doesn't work, did you mean across all emulators or just Citra?
This screen doesn't have touch support, but Citra had/has a feature that allows you to emulate touch on the second screen. That feature was broken in a recent update to the emulator.
Why is screen tearing so hard to fix? Can't they just enable vsync?
They need to rewrite a DSI display driver, and it is a lot of work. It might be easy for someone with experience writing those things, but the JELOS team is upfront that they don't do a lot of low-level work like that. There is an older software package that has a working driver, but it doesn't support JELOS, and a lot of the PS2, GameCube, and 3DS emulation I show here wouldn't be possible on it.
I hope you do a follow-up---*Taki just says; I don't plan to do another video about this device*---WELP.
I hope this video at least gets a healthy disclaimer added as issues get fixed so people don't think they're still a problem afterwards
Hi Taki, thanks for another great video! What do you think is the best handheld option for playing Sega Saturn?
Used RP2+, Used RP3, or RP3+.
On the Gamecube emulator, how well do the _'Star Wars Rogue Squadron II/III/Rogue Leader/Rebel Strike'_ games run? Back in the day they were the ONLY reason to buy a GC. Two of the best games ever made.
Hey what do you think is the best handheld right now? Or can yup do a video of the best one at different price points?
Not sure if answered already, but did you attempt to wake up from sleep mode without charging cable plugged in?
im sure that there is a vsync flag in the display manager config that can easily be added during production or the user can enable, even with the issues, id say this looks great for a hundred bucks
Why didn't you review the Powkiddy X28? Its an amazing handheld
Definitely a cool looking device, with some impressive power for $115. Dope vid taki.
Whats best this or RP3+ or RG505?
Does Twilight Princess run good when you get to Hyrule Field? It always runs good in towns but when you get to the field, that's where it slows down.
Just want to point out that at 16:01, Super Mario Galaxy is erroneously labeled as a GC game rather than Wii!
Anything at or over $150 doesn’t seem worth it if you could just save a little more and get the Steam Deck
This is it. Been looking for a portable way to play dark cloud2
I wish there were more handhelds on the market
That tiny handheld looks really nice, if ill buy this rgb10max pro I would play ps2, ds, wii and 3ds emulators games what are my childhood. 🔥🔥
I placed an order three days ago. I hope they resolve the screen issue.
-It has 3DO? I can play Lucienne's Quest on the go. The 3DS is already handheld so I don't need the device to play that.
-Sleep mode doesn't work? That's a problem. I can do this with the 3DS and PSP when I need to get back to work quickly. That might be a deal breaker for me.
-It has Virtual Boy too? Sweet. I want to play Wario Land and Jack Bros.
I'll play the American version so I can hear Ash and Misty's voice.
-For GameCube I want to play Skies of Arcadia. If I can play it on the go I would have more time to play it. I tested it out on a modded Wii before but never got around to continuing it. I might try out Beyond Good and Evil as well since I have issues playing that on PC and have optimization issues. The camera is way too fast.
-If the sleep mode is fixed then I might try it out.
Generally if big games are able to run should the smaller/older be able too?
Bit late but yah unless there's a problem with the emulator itself
@@dadsback69 is there a list of which games won’t work on this? I need this (:
@@snoopdoggdankkush9285 I don't know about a specific list but ps1 and below you shouldn't have any problems. Ps2 and up you might be able to play some but consider those games more as a cherry on top
Can someone tell me how to add the wii and 3ds emulation?
Pun intended.
are games built in or do you have to install them on to it?
Whoa, I really like that UI. Can we get something like that on Android devices like the RP3+?
Man Sora definitely sounded different back then it sounds kinda funny actually
screen tearing is not good, but the fact that it runs 3ds good... I am tempted to grab it
Why not just get a 3ds ?
@@54356776 because 3ds emulation is more limited and its also free you dont have to buy 3ds games
at 16:08 it says that super mario galaxy is on the gamecube
How well does Twilight Princess play on this handheld? I've been dying to replay it. Also, would Sonic Adventure run on this?
Can we please get an impression how well heavy games run on the ps2 emulator? Specifically Suikoden V and Obscure 2 are known to be troublesome
These issues are amazing for a release build. Why even bother shipping? Just delay it like they've been with the X55 orders recently.
The analog sticks being vertically below the face buttons and dpads instead of being off center makes them very painful to use, especially while trying to use the shoulder buttons at the same time. Very uncomfortable.
Hello ☺️ out of all these that you have reviewed, which do you think is best for someone who mains wants to play PS1, PS2, PSP, and gamecube games?
Bad move from Powkiddy not making this a wifi capable console when their RGB30 is wifi capable which is much cheaper than this one. Hope the next RGB10Max will be much better. Great console tho.
I might get one and hopefully the OS just get's better, once that is fixed this seems a budget killer for sure ... 👊😎👊
I was really hoping this had stacked shoulder buttons.
Will do mgs2-3?
Are the ROMS compressed? I mean, how do they manage to fit so many ROMS into the microsd card?
That sleep issue is just wrong they shouldn't even ship a product with such problems 😮
Can't wake up the system if it goes to sleep?! Seriously?! Deal breaker
I'm coming of as entitled I know but I was actually looking into buying one 😢 that's why I say it's a deal breaker. No wifi, OK I won't die without wifi but basic functionality issues are not OK
Guess I'm still looking for a PS2 & 3DS capable handheld that is not a phone 😅
Thanks for uploading 👍 massive help
They even have a manual included which says hdmi port temporarily doesn't work
@@snp1200 HDMI isn't a thing for me
I'm looking for a budget handheld that can actually run (not just emulate) PS2 and 3ds games
Anything below these to systems, a modded ps vita covers pretty good
GameCube is a home system for me
There remain PS2 and 3ds as handhelds. That's what I am looking for
@@graymars1097 I got it mainly for 2D games. I have a miyoo mini plus, but the 3,5" screen is a bit too small for me and I wanted something linux based.
Why didn't they use an existing stable OS like Retropie or Lakka?
So, what alternative do you recommend? I want near perfect PS2 emulation for Gran Turismo and Tekken games, and that's basically ALL I care about.
So I can fit this in my pocket? I could totally use this. I don't want to take the Switch to work because it is too big.
How would you compare it to T618 devices like the Retroid 3+ or the RG405M ?
Thank you making me saving $140 .I will wait 1more year until this hand hand held systems get improved ,right now they are not there yet
For me, it doesnt really matter how good the price is if it has those issues that you listed.
I like it and ticks a lot of boxes for me. Waiting for a unit to arrive. Can i just add roms into the various game system from linux sd card?....😊
Yes you can
@@TakiUdon sorry but I'm a bit naïve,aged 56, even though I've got loads of retro systems, can I just grab any rom online and place it in the relevant game system and play. Android and Linux will still play ok?or do you have to find ROMs for the specific operating system?
They are universal@@petesilvers5053
@@petesilvers5053 The ROMs don't care what device or OS they're being played on so long as they're in the right folder. The one exception I can think of right off is trying to play PS1 games on factory PSP hardware. They couldn't run straight PS1 games; rather, they had to be converted to "EBOOT" format using PSX2PSP. Some websites went to the trouble of pre converting them. I wouldn't be surprised if there's other examples of that sort of thing out there; but, I highly doubt you're going to run into it if you buy this handheld.
