I LOVE it. Works much better than springs and for a much longer time. I will run both cables to the same weight (on one side only).
I have some cast iron barbell plates ranging to 50-lbs. I will drill and tap a 1/4"-20 hole in the end of one and screw an eyelet in for the cables. BTW, if you use one cable it can be one continuous length (uncut). That way it can equalize at the weight-eyelet. Or if the weight-eyelet cable is clamped, and one side tends to 'stick', the weight will always 'apply more help' to the side that is sticking. The first thing I did was to drill through the cylinder base and bolt it directly to the cross piece. My 20-ton is orange too. I bought it and did not assemble for a few months. When I got around to it I noticed a hole in the small parts box and sure enough one of my springs was missing. Back to HF... They had the gray presses by then. I asked the manager what the difference was. He said they are identical except the older ones are orange. He gladly replaced my missing spring. It's a good press and 20-tons needs to be respected by practicing extra safety measures in case something goes flying.

Your single cable running both sides is a great idea. Clamping it at the weight means the cross bar is always horizontal. Good tips!
