sadly, the original statues in the tower was destroyed first by the Anglo-French Expeditionary Forces in 1860 and then by the Chinese themselves during the cultural revolution. The current Buddhist statue was transferred from a perish temple that underwent demolition in central Beijing in the 80s. This explains why the statue is so out of proportion with the scale of the tower within which it is housed.
I see your point.. I am saddened to hear the news about the summer palace. Although I’m only half, I’m very proud to be Chinese and I have a great love for the palaces in China
