    These cameras are great and they will last for the next three decades without problems. But the original manufacturer of Zenit cameras is KMZ in Russian federation (in soviet times RSFSR). After 1975 also a plant near Minsk in SSR Belarus started to produce them, because of huge demand on western markets. But they had quality problems. So KMZ was producing models for export with latin letters ZENIT and these are better quality. Belarussian versions were intended for soviet market and they practically always have cyrillic letters зенит. Some belarussian models were even made of ABS plastic instead of metal and those I would avoid.

    Thanks for the video, great to see videos on less popular cameras. I have a Zenit 11 & Zenit 12xp, thinking about adding one of these to the collection now!

    I just got a Zenit TTL (used to have one decades ago). Great simple camera; the TTL has through lens metering that I really appreciate.

    Very nice camera
    I'd like to have a Soviet camera myself for the sake of being curious about how Soviet used to build stuff
    Plus if you're curious about writing on the camera body, 'Зени́т' is just 'Zenit' in Cyrillic alphabet

    Hi, if you want to know the age of your Zenit or any other Soviet camera (except the Fed family, maybe), you just need to check the first two digits of the serial number of the camera. Second, the BelOMO factory is situated in Vileysk, which is located near Minsk, Belarus, not Russia. You can also differentiate between the KMZ and the BelOMO versions by the logotype of the factories, and unfortunately the BelOMO cameras were a little worse than the KMZ ones.

      I saw the 3rd video but i had already figured it out... i have a few old cameras and its kinda standard procedure on old 35mm cameras to insert the film into the sloted winding spool...
      Thank you for your reply and i hope you make more videos..

    I have the exact same model after my Grandpa and the only thing I don't fully understand in using it is this speed dial wheel. I never know which one should I use :( On Digital Cameras Like my other Sony Alpha it's easier cause when You turn the Aperture and shutter speed dials You see the changes in your viewer. Can You elaborate a little bit more about this wheel for me?

    I have the same camera and I bought it second hand from someone. When I look in the view finder, i see a lot of dirt. They are not on the mirror or the view finder behind the lens, they are somewhere inside the body of the camera. Do you know how I can clean that?

    Hi! Great video, helped me very much. I have one question, do you know how to rewind film? I understand that lever on the left is used for that, but my film is somehow locked. I assume somethin on the right should be pressed to unlock film for rewind.

      Hola! a veces como son muy viejitas las cámaras, traen el lightmeter/exposimetro descompuesto, la mia Zenit lo trae descompuesto, pero aun asi puedes usar la cámara, solo usa un lightmeter externo, te recomiendo usar un app de lightmeter para medir la luz, yo uso "lghtmter" :)

    so the solar powered light meter means you cannot shoot at night without flash right?

    • @KimGarza
      @KimGarza  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      alexxkk that will depend on the ISO and the setting that you use, but normally you cannot shoot at night without light. The light meter measures the light that the camera is receiving and tells you which settings you should use your a correct exposure, or if it is necessary to add artificial light :)

    • @burntoutelectronics
      @burntoutelectronics 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The light meter won't be accurate enough at night but you could still do a long exposure without a flash. I suggest taking a photo with a digital camera to see what settings to use then calculate that with the reciprocity failure of the film. That can be found in the manufactures data sheet for the film.

    Horrible camera. The canvas shutter curtain was a pain in da ass and no TTL metering. I was glad when sold it and bought a better with iron curtain. Model 12 was way better, but only Krasnogorsk made, not Vileyka.
