    Caution: laptop bricks are usually 19volts mostly 4.75 amps sometimes lower. (90w)
    An LED PSU is cheap and safer. Output voltage is adjustable 12v ~ 14 v and the output amperes is high. A 50 amp PSU is about 50usd at the amazon. (600w)

    Also the wiring from that power supply you have is tiny, Normally only AC voltage is referred to as Live and neutral
    neutral not DC voltage, that would positive and negative or ground. I forgot to mention that atx power supplies have a lot of wires that deliver the 12 volts, so I connected them all together and ran them to binding post that are connected to the case, I did that for all the rails even the power supply turn on lead so it would be easy to use the power supply turn on, also that means I get all the current needed from the PSU and also I can use all the power supply rails all at the same time if needed. Look up atx power supply mod for bench top power supply use.

      I was using an 800 watt ATX with APFC. Now I have built many 10,000 watt power supplies for amps and many other things, plus my PSUs also have variable voltage ouput.

    It will work. But when you increase the volume it will shut down due to 5 amp limit. A 600 watt amp with one sub connected will draw approximately 20 amps at max volume with bass boost. Get a cheap regulated power supply with at least 30 amps.

    There are many videos on how to run a car audio amp from a computer psu or laptop charger. It is clear these people have no understanding of basic electrical theory.
    For example a typical laptop charger supplies 19 volts at 3 or 4 amps, totally unsuitable to power a car amp.
    A car amp is designed to run off a 12 volt car battery that can deliver a high current.
    Firstly, running a car amp at 19 volts is likely to damage the amp.
    Secondly, even a small car amp will draw 15 amps or more at high volume. A high power amp requires even more current. All car amps require much higher current than any laptop psu can deliver.
    If you use an under powered psu the amp will probably work at low volume, but turn up the volume and the psu will either shut down or overheat and catch fire.
    Have your fire extinguisher handy.

    *WARNING to anybody that is doing this WARNING!*
    Yes it will function plugin it in this way but a car amp usually requires 10-30 amps and these laptop chargers are only 1-2 amps. this can lead to distorted non clean power coming out of the amp possibly causing damage to the sub woofer or speakers. or even worse damging the amp but most amps have circuits to protect from this Please be cautious.
    *WARNING to anybody that is doing this WARNING!*

    • @FuskyTheHusky81
      @FuskyTheHusky81 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** you wouldent be able to turn it up very loud but you have a high chance of hitting distortion and possibly blowing your subwoofers because when you cant give an amp enough power and it hits distortion it basicly heats up the speaker and burns the coils. so id be very careful but i do not recommend it. i really hope im helping and not sounding like 1 a smart ass or 2 your not understanding me :)

    • @FuskyTheHusky81
      @FuskyTheHusky81 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** because some amp lifers will amplifies what ever signal is being fed to them not crossing it over. so that means if you connect it to the main speaker out you will get a full range sound coming out of your subwoofer witch can lead to distortion witch once again kills speakers in genral and you cant drive as much power as in bass power if you are trying to push the full range though them and not just below 100-80 hertz is usaly where subs go below.

    Using a laptop charger is probably not the best idea, they output way higher voltage than an amp is designed for, also you need much higher current. When I rebuild, modify or custom build amps for customers, I use computer atx power supplies that come from the tower PC ones that is. They have 12 volt output which an amp runs on but much higher current. I am running my 2 12s with a 2kw monoblock amp with an atx, runs just fine, very clean bass, I also made a cap bank.

    Does The little black wire that goes between the REM and the 12v need to be positive or negative? Also I will be using a ac to Dc converter what sides should the negative and positive go on?

      technically it's a postive wire, so he used the wrong wire color, and the laptop DC is underpowered for most car amps, 12v laptops are typically 50W maps, rarely above 80w, i.e. 12V *6Amps = 72V

    I used a 19.5v DC charger to power my amp, I wasn’t paying attention and as soon as I plugged it in it started smoking, I put the old 12v one in and all it does now is turn on, it doesn’t work with any speakers, so yeah, rip Amp

    (WARNING): I recommend pc power supplys since they give power in a smoother way and have much more amps and barely overheat/Laptop Charger is weaker give horrible voltage in high volumes but OVERHEATS CRAZY AT THE POIN OF POPING A CAPACITOR LIKE WHAT HAPPENED TP MY OLD LAPTOP CHARGER(but you can do at your own risk but yeah really recommend pc power supply)

      roki buča Xbox 360 power bricks or a computer power supply is for car amplifiers that are under 1000 watts for car amplifiers that are 1000 watts or higher you have to either wire multiple Xbox 360 power bricks or multiple computer power supply's in parallel or use a car battery instead

    • @CallumWestOfficial
      @CallumWestOfficial  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me no, though as I turned the volume up the power wasn't sufficient so I would need to upgrade the power (laptop brick) to a higher spec

      +Callum West that's why a pc psu is better but its ugly until psu's get smaller and safer for use out of the pc. Also i was thinking, does any car amp come with fan cooling yet as cooling amplifiers as they are running can trick the amp into not requiring more voltage when increasing the volume, electricity is a weird one sometimes as no one ever thinks it takes power to regulate and drop power too.. Great video, i always thought a laptop charger would work but never tried or needed to as i have a few active pro dj speakers, but for my passives i was thinking to have a car amp mounted to each one and make them independent of a amp source and also allow daisy-chaining when self mounted amp not in use, i would add a switch for this so its either external power or internal as i don't want to send power back to any adapters..
