    Coffee tip! When it comes to coffee, it’s sometimes surprising how much heat gets instantly sucked out of a mug if it’s not warmed before the coffee/milk goes into it. I would recommend pouring boiling water into the mug and let it heat the mug while you prep the coffee to pour. That’s why a lot of cafes store their cups on top of the machine, it’s always warm up there ☺️☺️

      @julialouisetutt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah my husband always gets so annoyed when I tell him my coffee isn't hot enough when he makes it! What about takeaway cups though, those aren't pre heated at cafes and they always seem hot enough

    • @shampoop118
      @shampoop118 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Or get one of those stainless steel mugs that retain heat well! (they have an extra coating on the outside like a Thermos). Coffee stays hot for a good 45 mins or so! Can't go back to regular ceramic mugs anymore!

    I don't think there is anything wrong with your kitchen island, it is a home, people live in it. If you want a solution, we have a small basket for each person in our coat cupboard (but you could have them wherever you want, maybe in your new built in cupboards in the kitchen) and we just 'unpack' into there when we get home. It works well for us. Fxx

    *sigh* why does it matter if your kitchen island is a bit messy?... I know, I know... it’s nice to have stylized, organization and especially in our main rooms (kitchen, living rooms, etc) but we LIVE in our homes... they don’t need to be always perfect! That’s it. That’s my rant. ❤️❤️❤️

    • @Miracle-ms9hu
      @Miracle-ms9hu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Right?! Our kitchen is the hub, so there's always some form of mess happening. Not to mention our coffee table. Trying to over analyse and organise is insanity when it's our home.

    • @lilypebbles

      @@lilypebbles But, how do you care for them, washing, drying, brushing ? Do you do anything special ? My 3 year old has the same ringlets but her hair is quite thin so it tangles and breaks, I am at a loss as to how to care properly for it - neither me nor her dad have curly hair ! It's so funny, I also have a 2 month old daughter and she was born with the longest, darkest, straightest hair, thick and shiny, like a little Japonese baby (in my head anyway 😂). Would you consider doing a video on how you guys care for Grey's hair ? I know it sounds so random and maybe too personnal but I'm sure there's an audience for it out there ! Anyways, take care 💋

    If your iron is very low you might be better with an iron tablet prescribed by your doctor. I can't see the mg dose in the Philip Kingsley
    Tricho Complex but it is likely lower than a prescribed dose. I take Ferrous Fumarate and my dose is 210mg in one teeny tiny tablet. I also find it much easier on my stomach than a supplement with lots of other ingredients. Maybe speak to your doctor on the phone about your blood test results.
    Other supplements contained in the PK tricho complex can be brought from Holland & Barrett so you can tailor these ingredients to your individual requirements giving you insight into what you actually need any what upsets your stomach. It is also alot cheaper that way but there is an element of ease with just having a single tablet but they are often lesser doses.
    If you have heavy periods this could be contributing to your low iron levels. Low iron then stunts your hair growth, makes it dry brittle and breaks off and thins out. Heat and manipulation exacerbates the breakage as does wearing your hair in a hair tie/bun.
    I hope some of that helps 💗

    It wouldn't be easy but if you stop using any heat on your hair you'll probably see a lot more growth. Looks like there's a lot of heat damage on the ends in addition to the slow growth.

    You can have your keys/wallet by the door but not reachable like you said through letterbox. Where you have your unit for shoes, use one of the top drawers for all that stuff or put a decorative box with a lid on top of the unit. That’s where I keep my card holder, keys, lip balm etc so I can easily grab it when I’m heading out the door and dump it in there when I come home and it doesn’t look “cluttered” and also keeps them safe xx

    Hook on the wall for keys & mask (use adhesive stickers if you don’t want to use a hammer/nail)
    Locate a kitchen drawer to put shallow trays in - one tray for each person, so three trays - you can put your meds in there, rich can put his bits in his & grey in hers (headbands, bobbles etc)

    I’m so happy that you and Anna have re-started the podcast. I’m in a more traditional job than you both, but I think all women can relate to the unique challenges of being a woman in the workplace. Really enjoyed the conversation surround gender equality in relationships (I’m the “breadwinner” in our family and make 2x more than my male partner, but when we bought a house, etc, all of the conversations were directed to him). Even at work, I’m never thought of as someone in charge. I’m a doctor but people have always mistaken me for a nurse or asked me when the doctor is coming into the visit. 🤦🏻‍♀️ My husband is going to be a stay at home dad in the future, and it will be so interesting to see how that plays out. We still have a long way to go, but thank you for having these important conversations. ❤️ I hope you had a lovely Mother’s Day!

    Love all things to do with home renos etc, so really looking forward to seeing what the tweeks you have planned in the kitchen will be & the loft! As to the island, could you maybe put a little shelf with some organization near where you usually leave your coats & shoes so that you can also have a space there to dump keys, mail etc. I think if you put a tray on the island it will just be a magnet for more stuff.

    I had a low ferritin and Vitamin D levels couple of months ago and I could notice the difference already in couple of weeks after I started my iron and vitamin D supplements (I take 100 µg of both, iron every other day). First of all the brain fog and the (somewhat) unexplained complete exhaustion was gone and I felt like a human again. It was amazing how much my energy levels improved! My hair and nails also started to grow a lot and I feel like my hair is a lot stronger. My deficiencies are linked to celiacs disease which I was also diagnosed with so if you have any stomach issues you might want to get that checked as well. Obviously that might not be the case with you at all, just thought I'd mention it since I had no clue those could be linked!

    We keep our car keys, wallet, etc in a drawer close to the front door. Easy to throw in when you come home, not easy to steal (especially because it's not an obvious place as in it's not in a console table in the entryway) but close enough to grab and go in case we need to evacuate fast. for keys and mail, we created a little station by our front door: a shoe cabinet from Ikea (one that hides the shoes and we put our own anthropologie handles on it), and above it, we put a basket for mail and a rack that says “keys” on it where we can hang two sets. We also put a nice trinket dish for extra keys or change on top of the cabinet. You have a closet, but we also put a set of hooks for hats or scarves. It creates a cute little station, even without a foyer (which you have).
    Also, for the attic, I think having the sloped roof is a blessing- it leaves space for you to still have storage (I know you keep the kids clothes up there, Christmas decor, etc)

    I'd throw a key rack in the nook where you hang coats! Yours is far enough from the door it would work really well.
    Plus, get a banana stand 🍌
    Also, we have a weird nook like that in our loft and it's the PERFECT home for a peloton and some home gym goodies.

    We have a dedicated drawer in the kitchen for keys and other random non-kitchen bits. Our masks are in a baggy that we hung on the cost hanger. Wallets do live by the door as well (on too of the shoe cabinet) though which might not be ideal. But I live in a very safe suburb and not in the city so I don’t think it really matters!

    Ahh okay so for keys--we keep ours on a table beyond our mudroom (not at all visible from the front door). Everyone uses it and this helps when someone has to leave and is blocked in so they can always move a car around. For wallets: everyone keeps theirs in different places (but then NEVER MOVE SPOT). So for my da', he'll keep his on this small worktop by the kitchen right next to an outlet where he always charges his phone, my sister keeps hers on her bedside table, my da's partner puts theirs on a bureau in their bedroom etc. For kitchen islands, we have a rule that mail gets sorted there, first, but cannot stay by dinner each evening and things like newspapers/mags/leashes etc., are never placed there but have homes in the sitting room or mudroom. My siblings also keep art pieces that they make on the island to deter people from clutter-bugging the kitchen and generally, we just keep worktops spare by putting things away immediately after each use. Idk, maybe we're just weirdly organized for that...but our pantry...that's another story hahaha! It's always evolving :D

    • @LittlePixieGreen
      @LittlePixieGreen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      OH ALSO: in case anyone's interested. There are specific holders for bananas so that they don't bruise as easily and aren't just anywhere. We keep ours in a little corner in the kitchen and the overall fruit bowl on the kitchen table not the island. :)

  • @kirstenrubberducky
    @kirstenrubberducky 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    For your things on the kitchen island, how about hanging 3 small baskets on the back of the door (I think it's a cupboard?) in the corridor?
    That way they're not near the front door, so people can't try to take anything, and it will be a nice place to keep these things without having them on display. The baskets will just look like cute decor and you'll always have those things to hand if you're heading out the front door.

    I'm not very good at pills myself - I can barely swallow them. So when I was pregnant and low on iron, I tried iron pills and they made me feel sick, so my Mum recommended just having spinach, kale, anything green and organic instead. They worked a treat - my iron levels shot up and I was able to have a water birth. Since then I've opted for the real thing instead of the synthetic version. Our body processes natural substances so much better.

    Hello Lily! We keep the keys and wallets in the basket in the living room near the entrance to the hall. Second thing, Lily, maybe try to revert to natural curls🥺 Hair that is lightened and straightened is often so damaged that it crumbles and then it does not seem to grow. You have beautiful hair, beautiful curls. Maybe such a change will work. I know that we do not always love certain things. I understand you have a mole insecurity, believe no one sees them the way you do.❤️ For us they are normal because all people have birthmarks and moles. This is so normal. Maybe problem with Your hair is the same. You definitely have beautiful curly hair that You may not like. But they will certainly be even more beautiful if your blood results improve and you take care of them comprehensively. My beloved grandmother always told me that nature gives us what we look best in😍 You're a beautiful woman! Happy sunday! ❤️

    Just a tip for your coffee milk situation - do you have a themometre on the side on the milk steaming jug? The milk should get to between 60-65 degrees, which takes longer than you think on a home style coffee machine. I'm a barista and have a coffee machine at home and find the machine at work heats the milk in a few seconds, whereas at home I have to wait a lot longer to get the milk to the correct temperature! So my advice would be heat the milk longer than you think!

I didn't know if you can get Wow dream coat spray in the UK. It's fantastic for keeping curly hair straight. It is like spraying water on your hair. No smell, not sticky or stiff. Have a look at IKEA moppe- that’s where we store all the tiny bits like wallets, keys and masks! It’s really handy!

    If you are a family that likes to dump things you have to have a solution that works with that. Find an accessable place that you can dump things in and stick a basket there. Or put up a shelf with some hooks underneath and put a basket for each person on the shelf.

    Could you keep the keys etc in a console table in the hallway? We have a little hallway table with a dish for keys and wallets but nothing else goes in it. (Its not a safety risk as we have a porch). Islands look lovely but they do seem to encourage clutter which puts me off a bit!

    I keep a round 'butler' tray in the middle of my kitchen island to hold things - maybe get a banana-tree for the bananas and put it somewhere else as they're still too close to the other fruit.

    Make sure you check the water of the plants in the terracotta pots, given that those pots are very porous they can absorb water from the soil 👍🍀🌿

    some hooks or trays on the inside of the doors of the cupboard in your hallway or in your kitchen/living space might be a good place to store keys etc

    Can you put a door in the building required wall? If you can you could have two doors at the top of the stairs, one going straight into the bedroom and en suite and the other going left into your storage area. That way you can square off the bedroom and you won’t have to always walk through the bedroom to get to your storage 👍🏼

      I could be wrong but I think the building regulation that means that wall is required is about not having a door that opens directly on to a staircase so I don't think that would be possible as the doorway has to be a certain distance away from the steps

    Do you mind telling us exactly what the blood work exam you did is called? I’ve never had voluptuous hair (even before kids) but I can definitely tell my hair is not growing and it breaks very easily and gets easily tangled now after having kids.

    First of all, YOUR KITCHEN IS NOT CLUTTERED (also even w the hair situation, youre beautiful) I find a key hook w/ a basket is best for counter organization. If you have an empty wall by the island, masks and keys and wallets can all be kept there! And maybe look into a banana hook hanger thing!

    I keep keys in a little bowl by the garage door. We have actual mailboxes where i live so i don’t have to worry about someone trying to steal things through a door mailbox 🤷🏽‍♀️ Never know that was a problem!

    Lily, we have the Skadis Pegboard from IKEA and it makes such a difference for organising keys, letters. We have 4 hooks on ours for masks and keys, a letter holder, elastic bits for sunglasses, and a couple of small pull out pot things. You can paint them so you could match to your wall.
