Which one is your favourite?
Artisan Cantina line is great!
Artisan Martinete line Brazilian Ironwood AEMLBI sounds AMAZING
Artisan tango line❤️❤️ is favourite
Idem la série Artisan tango Line 🔥
The first one, because I have same 😁😁😁😁
My daughter and i have been looking at splitting the cost of a cajon (because we are poor). I've been looking at our local music stores and watching a ton of videos online. Your videos by far have been the most useful and informative! Thanks for doing these! Of everything I've listened to from many different brands, I'm always blown away by the sound of the Meinl Jumbo Subwoofer Cajon! The kick on it is crazy low and the snare sounds about the closest to a snare drum while still having that low kick. I think we're gonna try to get one of those! Thanks for putting this out! Very helpful!
Good choice! The Jumbo has a good and powerful sound ;)
Hey, I wouldnt care to help you and your daughter by ordering a cajon for you! Have you purchased one yet??
@@thebiggwigg @jwigglifts You are very kind, thank you! My two oldest kids got together and bought one for me for Christmas! Meinl Subwoofer Cajon! The sound is amazing!
@@TroySchulz Glad to hear it:)
Awesome love how you stayed with same beat to be able to clearly hear difference..I'm hoping to see in the description which ones have the strings/snare ..I want to get one and not sure which yet..I'm a 60 year old woman who has wanted to play drums since elementary school but always thought it was a man's world. I play guitar and beat around on other objects so time to get a cajon! My dad played the bongos so I got my love for percussion from him
I love how the last one gets played longer because it sounds so good :)
;) cheers!
it's by far my favorite
Great selection - I was torn between the Subwoofer as I love the bass tones and the Artisan Cantina Walnut which had good bass and was nice and punchy. Probably the latter had the edge, though I felt the subwoofer would be better for some applications. The only thing that may have made a difference would have been the sounds of the sides....
The sides are quite good but for sure the Cantina has more volume and higher tone. The subwoofer has a deeper bass and a snare sound more more Like a drum kit, If this is what you are looking for, let me know 🙏

@@CajonMaster I noticed you have never ever reviewed the Pearl Primero Cajons. Is there a reason? I would like to get to your opinion on these cajons. Thank you!
I’ve been interested in the gray eucalyptus since announced this year and this video definitely persuaded me. I love that darker tone it has compared to the brown. Currently my Limba tango series is my best sounding cajon. I definitely prefer the strings over the wires. Thanks so much!
Great choice! The grey eucalyptus has a warmer sound! thanks for you comment my friend, cheers
That was incredibly helpful. what a great way to demonstrate their differences. Thank you!
Glad you like the video and it's helpful for you.
I am in the market for a new cajon and this video was very well done. Thank you for doing this. Great!!
Glad to know it was helpful. Let me know which model you gonna get ;) cheers!
Artisan Cantina Limba for sure. Thanks for doing this video. So helpful for my purchase. 😃
Glad it was helpful!
there is something about the Walnut cajones that i love!!
but i cannot describe the sound. its like a second layer sound..... awesome demo thank you!!
Glad you like it. cheers!
Thank you! As someone who has recently reconsidered the market this is an excellent resource! Your channel is wonderful! Appreciate your time and energy!
Initially I'd say I like the subwoofer version but I've got some more listening to do. :)
You are so welcome! thanks for the comment ;)
Great presentation, last year I made my decision based on it, so thanks a lot for the video. 1:57 jumped out to me, something about it's background tone, I just heard a song in it. I guess it resonated with me, although I almost went for the subwoofer one. I've had the burl wood one for almost a year and it's great.
Hello Felipe, after listening to your comparison I went to a music shop where they have many different Meinl cajons to test.In the end my favorite cajon became the Tango Line Limba with its well balanced elegant sound. I am very happy with my choice. Thank you!!!
Great to hear! The Tango is a good choice ;) enjoy!
Great Felipe!!
I was waiting for this since you announced about the video!
Congrats for 10k again!
Thanks a lot! 🙏
This is a fantastic video with so many Cajons in one place to hear one after the other! I have 2 Artisan Tango-Line Cajon (Limba & Grey Eucalyptus), and the Jumbo Sub Woofer/Walnut. Love them all!
Glad you enjoyed it! cheers
Thanks Felipe!!! I am torn between Artisan Martinete and Artisan Tango Limba. As always, great video, excellent sound and you're a great teacher!
My pleasure! thanks for your words 🙏 Both are great choices. let me know when you decide ;)
Felipe! I was confused about Cajons; thank you for this demo. I purchased a Artisan Tango Limba Cajon after many listens to your demo. Received today I am inspired by the sound . I love the snappy wire sound, solid bass backed by the wood tone keeping the beat. Many thanks!
Glad I could help! Let me know if you need any help ;)
Actually I just wanted to know...would the beater head also have or make a difference in the sounds of the types of woods it was created or built with? Reason for asking is you can't just go to Remo or meinl and purchase a Cajon beater head or purchase a skin of some sort. Usually the beater head for the Cajon are made from subfloor paneling customized to fit your Cajon. MY Roland Electric Cajon got damaged when I let my friend play it at a gig he forgot to take off his Rings on his fingers that nicked and cracked the edge of the Cajon beater head. So would it make a difference in the type of beater head for the specific type of wood used?
Depending on the material used in the front plate the sound of the cajon will be different, for sure.
Thanks Felipe. I am new to Cajon and find all your videos really exciting and useful. I bought the Artisan Tango Line and need to practise!
Great to hear! have fun with your new cajon and hit me up if you need anything, cheers!
The Brazilian ironwood model that you finished with was hands down much more dynamic. It had a really clean and low bass tone without the snare interference, yet the high end had a really nice balance of wire and tone...I would have liked to have voted for the SUBCAJ5WN as that is the model I own. I've always played my djembe, but I purchased a cajon a couple years ago and tonight I told myself that it's time to get down with this thing. So, I recorded some acoustic guitar on my soundboard, hooked up a condenser mic on the port, and I am going to get after it with this crazy wooden crate that's been collecting dust in my studio. Your videos are awesome, brother. Just got turned onto your channel tonight and you're going to help me through this. I'll shoot you a clip, but right now we aren't even playing the same sport. Thanks, man!
Thanks a lot Michael! Glad you like the videos ;) Send the video to me when you have it, thanks!
All these cajons have one issue in common which is that there is not much separation between bass and snare sound. I do not want to hear any snare or string sound when I play the bass section.
I think that might just be the way he is playing it. On most cajons, you can typically achieve that ‘single bass’ sound by slapping in the centre of the drum. In all his playing, he is slapping the upper portion where you will probably hear a little snare interference.
You would LOVE the Gon Bops Fiesta Walnut.
Exactly
This is a bit like saying, "All these guitars have the same problem where it sounds like a string instrument".
It's not an issue, it's how cajons work.
Some certainly don't have as much range between snare and bass but several of these have solid range. But you're going to hear snare in the bass cause that's how cajons work.
Try subwoofer series
Happy that i stumble upon this great comparison, for my budget, a Snarecraft PRO Walnut is my choice, balance snare with bass. Thanks for sharing.
Good choice! glad it was helpful ;)
loved the low and high timbre of the Brown Eucalyptus/Artisan Tango Line
It's a good option with a great price ;)
Thank you for your extremely informative videos! I am a percussionist who has played hand drums for a long time, but have just recently started using a friend's entry level cajon when I perform in a duo. Primarily I play the Bugaraboo (a west African hand drum) and other small percussion. My band mate plays guitar and is a vocalist. We play blues, soft rock, some country, some originals, basically eclectic music. We play in restaurants and bars that do not want loud music, so we need to keep our volume down. Most of the time I do not use a mic. We want to incorporate the Cajon into more of our songs and I would like to upgrade to a professional level cajon and have narrowed my interest down to 3 choices, but can use some help in making my final decision. My order of preferance is: the Artisan Cantina Line Walnut, the Artisan Cantina Line Limba and the Artisan Buleria LIne Lava Burl. I am not sure if I like the feature of the port in the front of the Cajon on the Limba drum. Any insights you could provide, or a different drum you would recommend I consider for my needs, would be much appreciated. Thank you.
I keep wanting a front port since I'd be playing at campfires. My brain wants to say outdoors is its own requirement vs a cafe with walls to bounce the sound back. But I've been told bass lacks direction in home theater setups. The subwoofer can go "anywhere" within reason and be useful.
Amazing demonstration! Thank you
Important to know thickness of the tapa or front plate, can u share please 🙏
Getting my very first cajon next week. looking forward to playing it soon!
Love that Brazilian Ironwood at the end. So good you did it for us twice. :-) I would love to hear something other than Meinl brand too.
More to come! ;)
@@CajonMaster I really what to get the ABueno Noble Maestre but having a hard time finding it (not sold out and at a nice price). Is there a way to contact the craftsman/manufacture directly??
@@codersexpo1580 Yes, you can contact Antonio from Abueno, he is a very nice guy! You can probably contact him via email info@abueno.com or on facebook facebook.com/ABuenoPercusion. Say hi from Felipe! ;)
Thanks for posting videos with lots of collections. 👍👍👍
You have done a excellent job👏🏻. I like in this order based on what you played.
1. SUBWOOFER SERIES WALNUT - SUBCAJ5WN (excellent soft bass compared to others)
2. ARTISAN CANTINA LINE LIMBA - AECLLI (good bass with treble)
3. ARTISAN CANTINA LINE WALNUT - AECLWN (good bass with treble)
4. VIVARHYTHM SNARE CAJON-VR-CAJ-SO (moderate bass with deep treble)
I am looking to buy one. I just got a question - does SUBWOOFER SERIES WALNUT - SUBCAJ5WN has bass adjustment to adjust the depth of the bass.
Also can you suggest Cajon drums which has excellent bass adjustment so I can show bass variation between songs. Looking for the best Cajon which produces *SOFT BASS*
Love your breakdown! I seem to like the sound of the Tango Line Limba cajon the best. I just saw on Sweetwater that there is a new Minera Line Limba cajon that looks the same as the Tango line but more ply’s, more wires and a different sound hole placement. Can’t seem to find a side by side comparison of the two though. Would love to hear your thoughts Felipe on how these two might compare. I’m just looking for the best one for amazing bass tone and distinct separation of bass and snare tones.
Good call! I didn't test the Minera line yet, should try it soon, I'll let you know ;) I really like the tango for the punch and volume. Another good option for you could be the Cantina Limba, good separation of snare and bass.
@@CajonMaster Thank you!
I use the MeinlSUBCAJ5WN Jumbo Bass, but my snare does not sound nearly as good as this, and I’m on my second one. I need to figure out how to improve it.
I listened to this many time and decided on the cantina walnut, but my god it took like 5 or 6 months to receive since it was back order. In the mean time I got the subwoofer cajon which sounds quite nice and does the job. I like that the bass is so deep, you don't have to reach down very far to get enough bass. Cantina is awesome, but for my style acoustic rock, the subwoofer gets the job done recording wise.
Is it me or did the subwoofer snare sound looser? Can you tighten that up? Thank you sooo much for this video!
This is the sound of the snare, I don't think it's looser but maybe you get the this impression because of the bass on it, the sound changes depending of the room/place you are playing. It's not possible to tighten up, it comes like that.
@@CajonMaster Thanks for the reply! Appreciate you.
I prefer the sound coming from Snarecraft Burl wood SC80BW and the Jam Series Baltic Birch JC50AB-B 🥰 Thanks so much for this awesome comparison buddy. All the best to you and your channel 🥰👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
My pleasure!
It would be amazing playing the Subwoofer walnut! 😍😍😍 I fell in love
it's a good one ;)
I'm looking for a cajon that is on the quieter side, sensitive, and has good separation between bass and snare tones. Any suggestions?
Thank you for a great video. Love the “Jam Baltic Birch” sound, but it is so small, and I am a big guy. I need something taller, but with the same sound. Does that exist?
Yes! You have 3 sizes. The line is the Snarecraft. The order is:
Jam Cajon
Snarecraft 80
Snarecraft 100
@@CajonMasterSo the Baltic Birch is what gives the somewhat darker sound than the Heart Ash?
I love jumbo subwoofer cajon , sounds stunning with deep punch note
Great Bass tone! 😉
Hi! I would love for some advice. I really enjoy the 'softer/deeper' sound of the jam series baltic birch. However, I wonder if there is a cajon with a similar sound that is taller, so you don't have to bend over as much? Thank you!
Hi Matthew, the Jam cajon is the smaller cajon from the SnareCraft series. There are 3 sizes, the Jam 35cm, the medium 45cm and the big one 52cm. All are made in the same way. Watch my review of the SnareCraft cajon in the reviews section here on my channel, and let me know what do you think 😉
Why does the grey eukalyptus sounds different besides the brown eukalyptus. Isn‘t it the same?
The bass of the grey one sounds better.
I played this YT video about a dozen times and I was really impressed by the difference in both Gray and Brown ucalyptis wood. My friend owns a milling yard I asked him to build me 2 types 1 a Cajon and a Gon Bop...milling the front plate or beater head with 1/8 ucalyptis instead of sub flooring paneling.
Have you ever tried a Pearl brand Cajon? I bought Pearl PBC-507 at a low price trusting that it is a recognized brand of percussion. As soon as it arrives I will start to learn with your tutorials for beginners.
Yes I have, Pearl makes good cajons to start. It's a good choice for a first cajon ;) enjoy the tutorials and let me know if you need help.
Love that subwoofer one!
Olá,
Parabéns pelo conteúdo.
Pergunta, o que vc acha do Tycoon Supremo Series Cajon?
Estou querendo um Cajon para iniciar a jornada de aprendizagem 😅
Good day to you sir.
I just have a quick question, one that I think you would have a good informed opinion on - do you think the travel Cajons are good ? The ones that go around your shoulders?
I have quite a small car and I think a full size Cajon is a little too big for my to tiny boot, but the medium sized travel ones look about right....The only thing is, are they good sound wise?
Kind regards
Yes, absolutely. Travel cajons are very good and practical to go around and also for practicing when you're travelling
I have a gallon drum already but I need backpack I cannot find can you review?
Is there a big difference between meinl Artisan tango limba and eucalyptus ? In video limba looks better for me but unavailable rignt now 😭
The limba wood has more bass then the eucalyptus.
This is such a great video thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
playing starts at 1:26
It was a hard choice as they are all good in their own different ways!! i do like deep bass boom tho so I seem to like all the walnut ones best and the baltic birch has a nice boom to it as well but I think the subwoofer is my favourite (again walnut) :)) Well done is playing such fantastic cajons for us and sticking with the same rhythm. Awesome!!!
I choose three:
- 3) Viva Rhythm Snare Cajon
- 2) Artisan Cantina Line WALNUT AECLWN
- 1) Jumbo Subwoofer Walnut SUBCAJ5WN
3 different choices, nice one! thanks for sharing ;)
Loved the dedication of yours and also the canon, i would be buying one day.
Awesome, thank you!
What do you think is the best beginner cajon and any thoughts on Kandu?
Sorry I don't know this brand Kandu. The best beginner cajons in my opinion are from Meinl like the snarecraft line and the Artisan Tango line. I have video reviews in the channel ;)
Vivarhytm is the most groovy to me. But I feel like it's not fair to add additional mics to some cajons
In the mix the overhead mics are the main mics to get the room sound. In this way I try to show the most natural sound.
@@CajonMaster you got it man, thix for the video!
Are there any canons out there where they have BOTH snares and strings AND you can choose to turn either on/off or both on/off as you wish?
Hi Brent, It probably has but I don't know any model yet. I will find out ;)
@@CajonMaster obrigado!!!
Hot take: the Jam Series JC50AB-B sounds the best. I just love the tight tone it has!
great to know! The jam a cool little cajon
El Jam series
Suena como debe sonar un Cajón!
Hermoso!
Hey Felipe, awesome video as always. My favorite is the Snare craft Pro very close second is the Artisan Martinete (AEMBLI) and the Vivarhythm sounds great as well but the front isn't appealing. Thank you again my friend i love hearing new stuff.
Thanks Mark, glad you liked it ;)
Thanks ! This video is so helpful. It will not replace visit to the music star but it really did help !
Glad it helped!
Dude that was a fucking awesome! Great video well put together! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Glad you like the video! cheers
thank you. I was hoping you'd review the clap box Cajon, which a lot of people here in India use.
Yes, I know, maybe in the future ;)
Is there a way to adjust the snares to get a more bass sound? I'd like to find one that has a more distinct snare and bass sound. Seems like I still hear snare when you hit the bass...
Hi Nichole, yes, in some of the models you can adjust the amount of snare you want. Which kind of cajon are you looking for?
what's the different between Meinl Cajon Snare with Meinl Cajon String ?
Too mamy good cajons there but the base on the subwoofer...holy shiiiiii and there was something special about the limba cantina model. I reeeally liked that one.
The limba is great one!
Wow! Thanks for the video!. You can see how Cajons sound based on size, width, and type of wood. For Reggae, Funk style beats I would go for the Jumbo Subwoofer Walnut SUBCAJ5WN or the Artisan Tango Line LIMBA AETLLI . For Samba & Latin grooves the Artisan Martinete Line BRAZILIAN IRONWOOD AEMLBI. I think this is the best all around sounding cajon. Thank you for the vid
Well said! thanks for your comment ;)
ARTISAN MARTINETTE LINE sounds the best to me. It has the most beautiful bass sound in my opinion.
But when I saw the price... well well... it explains it all
Question for you: All your cajons are tested with microphones in front of the cajon. I also see cajons with pick-up on the market. What do you suggest in terms of sound quality? Pick-up or no pick-up?
The one I use and highly recommend is the Meinl pickup cajon. Watch the review I did last month and let me know what do you think, here is the link - th-cam.com/video/7gJXapjepYE/w-d-xo.html
In the studio I always use mics and for live I use the pickup and sometimes an extra mic on the back.
What about a peruvian criollo cajon, why haven't you tried the original?
No 3 & subwoofer !! 🤙🏽🤘🏽
Nice one! Thanks for your comment ;)
I love the last one sound. 👍👍👍
It's one of my favourites! thanks for you comment 🙏
Man, that Artisan Brazilian Ironwood was very focused and tight sounding overall to me. Of course when I looked it up to buy it's the most expensive. DAMN
It’s a great cajon! Construction, sound, look, everything 😉thanks for your comment Hans 🙏
Thank you for this amazing video! I loved the subwoofer series one. I like Cajon to have more base but we don't get that one here in India.
Thanks for watching! Hopefully it will arrive soon in India
Very helpful video thanks alot 😀
Glad it was helpful!
2:07 2:26 MY FAVORITES! I’m torn.
Nice...your internal time right on. Thanks for video. Want to make you saved me a lot of time.
Glad it helped ;)
Saludos!
Gracias! El Tango es muy bueno! Bueno preço e muy versatil
Hey Felipe, thanks for your wonderful videos and emails. I am deciding between a Buleria line and a Solea line, any thoughts?
Hi Lucian. Glad you liked the videos! I would go for the Buleria. It's a really nice one, great construction and more features than the Solea. Let me know when you get it! ;) cheers
@@CajonMaster I've ordered it today. Yes I watched every video of both and I love that stronger flamenco sizzle. All the artisan models are beautiful though. Thank you so much for your high quality videos and lessons. I'm going very slowly trying to make sure I have better techniques.
Hey Felipe, I am loving the new Buleria artisan cajon, it has a great flamenco sound and concentrated bass plus the solid construction and my kids love the jam cajons.
@@luciansamosata5977 So glad to hear that! Soon I will review the buleria ;) Let me know if you need anything. Have fun!
I own the Meinl Cantiña, the Meinl Seguiriya, and Pepote Profesional (Meinl’s version is called the Martinete). Each has a unique voice. The Cantiña can’t be beat for a great balance of deep bass and snap of the corner slaps. The Seguiriya is the BEST sounding corner slaps, hands down-nothing can compare to it. The Pepote Profesional is the top of the line, and it has the looks to outclass any other cajon-the wires require a bit of breaking in and I’m still trying to dial in its best tone. It is much lighter in weight compared to the other two, and its resonant pitch is slightly higher than the Seguiriya, which is odd because its dimensions are supposedly larger. Given time and tlc I think the Pepote will sound even better than the other two. But I’m not selling the other two-they sound awesome too.
In a flamenco cuadro onstage, I found that the Cantiña holds its own with one dancer. When miked, the Seguiriya is pure and articulate and can compete with several dancers. We’re talking hardcore flamenco dancers. I have yet to test the Profesional onstage with flamenco dancers-it is not as loud as the Cantiña but it is starting to warm up to a nice snappy tone with a decent bottom.
Hi Michael! Thanks for the comment. I don't have the Seguiriya here with me but I agree with you about the Cantina and Martinete, two great ones! And I love the Cantina for live situations because of the bass. Great stuff made by pepote 😉 thanks again! cheers
Hello... is
good brand MEINL?? Or is a midlle brand?? Thanks!
It's good! The meinl Artisan line is in the top line of Flamenco cajons handmade in Spain.
@@CajonMaster sorry my inglish brother jaja... the last question plis.
I listen a few Meinl in your canal and I am in love with two of them. The WC100EB and the SCP100WN... wich do you think i have to buy today... i like when the bass song with personality jajajajajaj i am sorry, i look like an idiot writing in english... i hope yo can help me... from argentina, cordoba, i send a big hug for you and congratulations for your channel and how you explaine...
I have the subwoofer cajon but I sure can't make it sound like that! How are you achieving that sound?
Hi Jack, thanks for your message. I will make a video soon explaining how I mic and mix my cajon ;)
Hi Cajon master, which string Cajon is the most similar to the tangos line?
All artisan cajons have the same strings designed by Pepote in Spain. The difference is the amount of strings each model has. The Tango line has 2 sets of 3 strings.
I'm so torn between the snarecraft pro and the artison tango as a first cajon!
Tango line ;)
@@CajonMaster I made the right choice then 😁😁 Great video!
I liked the two that happened to have the bass drum mic there too
Thanks James!
@@CajonMaster out of the two and a bit more video watching, the meinl sub bass one takes top spot for me. Whats your favourite?
@@NIGHTWHEEL... Cantina and Martinete line
Have you tried/reviewed Kopf Percussion S Series HANDCRAFTED (each unique) here in the United States? Since 2010? They make them with Birch and sound fantastic! They produce them from start to finish ALL under one roof in ONE location in the state of Georgia of all places. You really need to check them out!
Hi Ed, I would love to test it. I will check it out ;)
Walnut just sounds so good for my taste, it didn't matter if it was a snare or a flamenco!
thanks for sharing it! The warm sound from walnut is great, true.
Since I (had) played mainly in jazz trio and quartets with nylon brushes, I'm most moved by the even frequency range of the last one - number 12 - the Brazilian Ironwood.
It's a very sensitive and great cajon for all music styles, and goes well with nylon brushes for sure!
I have a De Gregorio which sounds great too !👌
Good choice!
Martinette Brazilian Ironwood. Like the balance of bass and tone and snare - sense that it sensitive.
Thanks Ed! Martinete model is a great cajon
It seems the Artisan Cantina Walnut had a resonant sustain the others didn’t have. I liked that one best.
Thanks for the effort. However, it would be a lot more interesting if you could include brands other than Meinl. Otherwise...this is just a commercial for Meinl correct?

Love...love...love the Artisan Cantina Line Limba-Aeclli
😀 Sounds huge!
I like the thump of the Artisan Cantina Line Walnut - Aeclwn
Hey what about the original cajon style?
They created a lot of sounds but forgot to do a root cajon. A Peruvian one.
Could someone link a drum kit made out of the cahon?
For the money that Artisan Tango Line LIMBA AETLLI sure is hard to beat! No pun intended!
Ooo, I'm torn...
Go with big bottom end - 2:20
Go with bit more tone/less bottom - 2:28 or 3:03
This would be more rock songs (heavy acoustic, electric guitar..), less folk.
Decisions!
Let me know when you decide it 😉🙏
Which is best for indian songs brother?
Artisan Tango and the subwoofer. Love the bass.
thanks for you comment! Great choices ;)
Oh dear me!!! Why ever did I listen??? I have to have the Brazilian Iron Wood. Stunning lively sound. It sings! Now where do I find that spare £1,000?
I know, it sounds great :) cheers
