When you showed the completed bag at the start, I thought "wait a mineute, Christine doesn's like binding". And then you had a genius method for binding the pockets. Thanks for sharing.
I totally enjoy watching ALL of your videos, you are so talented. You make me want to try everything. Been sewing since I was 7, now 72 years old, just love the creativity.
This bag came out great. Easy Peasy 😁. Last year I sewed a similar bag, custom size to fit an antique Singer 24 in a bentwood case inside, so I could take it as a carry-on on my flight home from Amsterdam to Raleigh, NC. The bag also has a waterproofed canvas bottom because I didn't want the fabric to get all nasty while setting it down during travel. I sewed the bag on my vintage Singer 221 Featherweight machine. I've found that as long as we use metal machines, they can handle just about anything we throw at them.
I just love watching you work out the pattern and then create what was in your head. You are amazing. I did giggle when you said right now to pull through the bag right side . Said no girl ever 😂😂😂. So funny. Wow. What a mammoth bag. I was thinking my little Janome would never cope with that lol. Love it though. Well done. Xxx
Gorgeous!! We often forget what’s involved in planning. Thank you for sharing your process. On the one I make, I’m going to include a removable cardboard bottom covered in the lining fabric for extra support and it can be removed if needed. 👏👏👏
Thanks! I just made a beach bag watching your video. You make it so easy. I just started sewing so there are some minor imperfections but I’m so happy with it and proud of myself. Thanks again. Not sure how to send you a picture of the bag.
i love your tutorials....so great no matter how long ...and you show so much enjoyment in sewing. I'm not very good at sewing, but that doesnt stop me from trying! thank you for this great pattern and instruction video! I'm gonna give it a try.
Oh Christine this is what I've been waiting for! Absolutely fantastic. I didn't mind it being a long video it was so good to take the time out of the routine just to watch you. Thankyou so much. 😊
Christine, your timing is perfect in that I am 3-1/2 weeks post open heart surgery🫣 and in August I will be starting cardiac rehabilitation and I think this will be great! I will go a little smaller for a cardio bag to drag back n forth and then I think I will challenge myself to go to the size you show which will force me to stop overpacking!!! Today, July 13th is the first day I feel like I’ve not been kicked to the curb or ran over by a bus and I’m sharing it with you. Thank you Elly from Wisconsin, USA
Love it, what a great project. May have to use thinner stabiliser with my machine but definitely going to give it a go. Thank you for giving your time and knowledge so generously.
Love this. Thank you for all your great tutorials. The thing that impresses me most is how you can go from inches to centimeters with seemingly no effort. I struggle with this so much! Are you a math whiz? Yes!
This is a fantastic massive bag and thank you for the excellent detailed tutorial and all the effort you put into planning, designing and making it! It definitely does need a thorough tutorial and we can always fast forward through bits we are confident about, but I have to say I will often replay sections more than once to make sure that I am doing things right and in the correct order! I am making mine currently to take on holiday at the weekend, can't wait to use it!
Brilliant bag. Couldn’t get over my ocd of the lining being cut across the pattern 🤪, fortunately it doesn’t really show and looks fab! Yet another great tutorial. Thnaks 😊
Thank you, Christine, for this great tutorial. Once again you have created an extremely useful item. I didn't object to the length of the tutorial as you covered every aspect, and I completed my ironing. ❤❤😂
That fabric is beautiful, I love it! 😍 I love the bag. Great idea on ending the stitch at the seam and starting on the other side. I'm always afraid I'm going to damage my needle or ruin my machine, when I'm sewing bulky fabrics. Thank you so much for sharing. Blessings always. 😊
WOW! That is such a beautiful bag! If I ever used it, I would pack it with so much stuff, no one could carry it! Love this tutorial. Thank you Christine.
Hope you're doing well. Just wanted you to know that I made this bag using some neoprene someone brought to me and I lined it with quilt cotton. I had to quilt the neoprene and be very careful not to distort it while working with it. I beefed up the lining structure using Decovil light iron-on interfacing. Wow! What an adventure. I didn't turn my bag as you did. I just used grosgrain ribbon to bind the top when I was finished. I have arthritis, so I thought it might be too hard to turn it. Mine turned out sort of floppy, but soft to the touch. I'll try to get a picture taken and send to you. Thanks again for sharing another wonderful pattern and instructions! By the way, I used both an industrial machine and a domestic machine to sew it. Happy traveling!
Wow! THat was so cool. I loved watching your process from designing to finishing. THat is a heck of a bag. I couldn't lift it if I filled it, lol. TY for excellent video.
Wow what a mammoth job great bag though and as usual fabulous tutorial , however I will not be making this bag my sewing machine would have a heart attack 😊
Wow, what a huge project & lovely fabric. Great tute and how you trouble shoot as problems pop up. Very interesting how you design with paper first. Thanks for sharing
What a monumental effort Christine. Fabulous big bag. It’ll take some workspace rearranging to make this up. And, I’ll need to switch machines to handle the bulk. This will be a weekend project methinks. 🤓
Wow! I've only made drawstring and tote bags, and I feel you've initiated me into a whole new world of bag making. Extremely clear tutorial, and I loved understanding your processes and troubleshooting on the fly 😂 Well worth the lengthy watch 😁 Thank you!
Wow great project! I tried making something like that but it became a mess. Will have to try again with your instructions. Thanks for this video. Cheers!
Haha, i just had to look it up. I had no idea it was an Australianism. 😄 Mud map is an Australian term for an informal map, intended to assist, but with no pretentions to accuracy or completeness. haha, to be honest Cynthia, I'm afraid of bindings. I really only enjoy hand stitching quilt bindings😁
I totally enjoy watching ALL of your videos, you are so talented. You make me want to try everything. Been sewing since I was 7, now 72 years old, just love the creativity.
Thank you Ann. I'm only 60, and want to sew everything I see too. 😁
Thank you for making the bag and explaining as you go. Many questions were answered and it does look great.

Totally agree Heike. The old vintage machines are far better than the newer lightweight machines being made now😁

Love this. Thank you for all your great tutorials. The thing that impresses me most is how you can go from inches to centimeters with seemingly no effort. I struggle with this so much! Are you a math whiz? Yes!

That's so wonderful Pauline. Well done. I haven't done the smaller version yet, but hope to soon😁
WOW! That is such a beautiful bag! If I ever used it, I would pack it with so much stuff, no one could carry it! Love this tutorial. Thank you Christine.
Thanks Lila. I've done just that with my trip away this week😁

Thanks Dorothy. I love playing with paper to create my projects. It gives me an idea of how they will look😁
Excellent bag, I needed something like this a few weeks ago and ended up making a similar bag but I'll definitely have a go at this one too.
Thank you so much. Would love to see the finished bag😁
What a monumental effort Christine. Fabulous big bag.
It’ll take some workspace rearranging to make this up. And, I’ll need to switch machines to handle the bulk.

Thanks Duncan. This will take a little shoulder work too😁

Mud map? That is a new term! I will have to have a look at the entomology of that phrase! xoxo
Haha, i just had to look it up. I had no idea it was an Australianism. 😄
Mud map is an Australian term for an informal map, intended to assist, but with no pretentions to accuracy or completeness. The term originates in such a map drawn in mud or dust with a stick, perhaps in response to a query by a stranger.

Thanks Yvonna😁
I spray all my bags with Scotch Guard before I use them. Helps keep them clean.
That's a great idea Pat. Thank you😁
I love your videos. Thank you for taking the time to teach me. One question - Could you have pulled the bag through the zipper instead of the side seam?
Thanks Kay. It's possible, but I'd worry that the zipper would stretch or weaken😁
🪡🪡🪡👜👜I am behind watching lol 🥰🥰
I've missed you and all your emojis Joy😁
Hey Christine, have you ever tried to use textile glue spray to get the stiffener to the fabric? (so you don't need to quilt it? )
Nice bag!
Yes I have Katrien. Not for many years though. I found it was too messy😁
Christine, have you ever upcycled burlap coffee bags? The material can also be called hessian or jute. I am thinking of making a messenger bag. But I am hung up on what to use for the straps. I live in the USA and at first considered buying leather straps, but the price seemed steep. I then considered cutting up a leather coat that I don't wear. Right now, I plan to try to use mill felt - felt that was used in a paper plant that an older gentleman really wants me to upcycle and I now have 200 pounds of! If you have read this far, thank you! Do you, or anyone else have any thoughts? I love, love, love your videos and I am deeply thankful for you.
Steph, I haven't had any of those bags to try yet, but what about using another bag to make the handles, and perhaps reinforcing it with some interfacing😁
Love the size. Would a fusible foam work better in the bag except in the bottom? I have seen bag makers use a light to medium woven interfacing on the inside including pockets for less slippage. I am saving this for reference. Thank you😊💜
Thanks Landa. A foam would work well, as long as your machines can handle it😀
I love the bag and the size of it. I know you may have answered this question already, but what kind of machine do you use. It sewed through that bulk easily...
Anister, the machine I use is a ProSew industrial machine. You'll find more information on it in a review I did a while back😁
Monumental effort Christine 🏆
I am a coward and not going to attempt this one on my domestic quilter. However, what are your thoughts on maybe using the vintage Singer 201k, with its bigger throat space and more solid gears coping with it?
I think the 201 should handle this type of bag with ease Sue. I went from 90/14 needle to 110/18 to handle the bulk😁
❤
Thanks Sheila😀
I’ve this bag. Pls tell me where to buy those metal labels .xx
Thanks Dione. The link to the metal labels is in the video description😁
What size and type of needle do you use? Looks like really thick to sew on a home sewing machine.
I started off with a 90/14, then used 110/18😁
is peltex available in Australia
I'm in Australia too Ruth and used to sell it in my quilt shop. I'd try looking for it in your local independant quilt stores😀
Would this be possible on a domestic machine, and what needle did you use please.
Megan, I'd do it on a mechanical machine rather than a computerised machine. I started with a 90/14 needle, then went up to 110/18😁
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs Thank you for your reply, very best wishes
"I’m looking forward to this, said no girl ever!" Lol
Haha, I really wasn't😁
What kind of wire are you using as a fabric guide?
Barbara, that wire guard is a finger guard so i don't stitch my fingers. It comes with the machine😊
Hey Christine, I'm wary of putting my card details loose onto the Web, but would like to "buy you coffee". Any chance of you adding PayPal as an option??
That's a good point Cathy, and something I hadn't considered. I've now added the Paypal option to the video. Thanks so much for the thought😊
