Chef Alvin so so sweet. He’s so supporting when the chefs don’t think they did good. Only time he was scary is when he yelled at one of the chefs for ruining a dish lol
And she said it after making a sandwich. Rule #1 in Masterchef Canada: Never make a sandwich because it's too simple and it will make you get eliminated. April Lee was lucky at that time.
I think he was trying to feel if there's any tiny bits of something on his puree smooth. A lot of chefs like him and Gordon do that. Hell, they can even taste and feel crumbs on puree moose.

DOn't forget the power of editing. They could have used a clip of Jennifer that happened before or way after Mary's judging in an unrelated context. Reality TV does this all the time to spice up the drama.
If Jennifer put yams, or just regular sweet potato I think it would have been fine. But then she would've had sweet gnocchi's and I guess that wasn't what she was going for. I only say yams cause a good pumpkin tends to teeter on the line of sweetness and I think I don't think it would have buried the flavor as much. But then again it would have been smarter with no potato so 🤷
