    1 - Leave the aluminum intake funnels/air horns in place during removal. It is very easy to break the tabs. Aluminum bends once and subsequent bending creates metal fatigue. $100 and a 10 day wait for replacements.
    2 - Leave the throttle cables attached to the bracket. Remove the bracket, unhook the cable ends from the wheel and let the assy dangle on the bike. Makes reinstall cake and everything is still synched as before.

    Great Video. I am not a mechanic and never would have attempted this without this video. The shop told me it would cost approximately $ 450 for the labor and $ 160 for the carb kit and had a 4-5 week backlog. I just purchased this 1994 magna ( not running ) for 200 bucks. Thanks again.Tim

    Awesome tutorial man. I just picked up a 97 Magna. I've worked on many motorcycle carburetors and each bike has its own little tricks and nuances. TH-cam is usually my first stop before I attempt a carb removal on a new bike, because of nice, people such as yourself, who make tutorials. Your videos was one of the best I have watched. Simple, to the point, not overly narrated, but you didn't leave anything out. I really appreciate it.

    Thanks so much for the video. I have a 94 that has been sitting for about 8 years and I'm about to begin the process of cleaning the carb assembly. Watching your video is a great help. Thanks also to others who commented on the issue of the air box base and removal of the trumpets. In removal, I removed all 16 screws holding the metal airbox base and then lifted it slightly and lifted each trumped out of the notches the tabs sit in on the carb assembly and twisted it about 30 degrees counter-clockwise so that the tabs slipped through the notches in the plate above them. In re-assembly, I put both the metal plate and the plastic piece that attaches to its perimeter over the carb assembly, then I tied the plastic piece to the frame up above before attempting to re-install the trumpets. I lifted the metal base, put the trumpet tabs through the openings in it, and then twisted clockwise 30 degrees with all tabs under the plate to fit them into the notches in the carb assembly below. I was unable to do this when I attached the plastic piece to the metal plate with the three screws first..

    I wish I would have read the comments. I found out the hard way that the ram stacks cannot be pulled out without damage after I pulled the first one off. Remove the tab locked screws first and lift the whole plate off.

    Thanks for taking the time to make this video, helps a lot of folks who have never done this daunting task. I have been rebuilding Honda V4 carbs and selling carb kits for a lot of years as a biz and have amassed a fair amount of knowledge as a result. So, I have a couple of comments.

    Hey, that was great! It gave me the confidence to remove the carbs from my magna, which is currently running like crap. My bike idles but won't get past 2,000 rpm with no power at all. Thanks, man!

    This video is instructive, but would you please edit it to reflect Jr ALEXANDER's comments? Either the air funnels on that bike are ALREADY broken, or you break them when you pull them out. There are tabs that hold them in place. The gold brackets and 4 screws MUST be removed first, to allow the funnels to be turned and released without breaking them.

    Wish this video existed when I owned my 96. I spent hours dinking around with removal, cleaning and reinstallation of the carbs. When I had the whole thing apart, it made me seriously consider changing the whole mess over to a Weber DGV carb for simplicity sake.

    A good effort on the video but there are some cautions that I wish to share: DO NOT remove those funnels/trumpets/inlets like that - it breaks the three tabs holding them on. They should be removed once the carbset is off the bike and AFTER the metal plenum has been unscrewed. I also do not recommend the use of power tools to remove fasteners due to the risk of damaging them - also, use JIS not Phillips screw driver. BE VERY CAREFUL if you decide to pry on the carbs to remove them - they are thin wall aluminum castings and break surprisingly easily. If you want to know more about V4 carbs go to V4musclebike.com and check the articles section and The Carb Spa sponsor links to tech articles and videos.... Ride safely everyone!

    I have a 1995 Magna and I found a difference in the sequence that should be noted. In this video, the funnels above the carburetors appear to simply be able to be pulled out. However, on my 95 I found out the hard way that you need to remove air cleaner base first or turn them in some way so the tabs on the base of the funnel are unlocked. I tried pulling them out as shown in this video and I broke off the tabs that are at the bottom of the funnel But the tabs appear to be held in place by the base. So now I have to purchase a new funnel before I can reassemble the bike. :-(

    @3740john - The carbs were removed because one of the floats were sticking. The carbs were also cleaned and the air filter cleaned of the mouse debris. I always try the easiest solution first. I had the carbs off, cleaned and back on in a day. Working on anything mechanical is subject to murphy's law so I can't estimate your time frame.

    Great video thanks for showin me how to do this, love the song that plays at 6 minutes lol

  • @MergeDammitMerge
    @MergeDammitMerge  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sounds like your main jets are clogged. You can try to use a fuel cleaner. You can try draining the float bowls. It all depends on how long you let the bike sit without running fresh gas through, It is possible you may need to do a tear down if the other options do not work. If you just paid to have the carbs cleaned, take it back and complain. Good luck. and post your results.

    @MergeDammitMerge hi got a question about the air funnels my are seated under the carb base plate, i tried to do what u did and the tabs broke off from my funnels. idk how come yours some off so easily. a little explanation

  • @MergeDammitMerge
    @MergeDammitMerge  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @classikz - Reverse the process for installation. Second question ... no.
    I do use a small scissor jack to push the carbs down onto the insulators but this must be done very carefully or your will break things. Breaking things is BAD.

    When you took that little air breather/filter off. where does the hose that it was connected to go? Took carbs off of one this weekend and can't figure out where that one goes. Thanks.

    It was a great video right up to when the tune came on. Then it lost all credibility as a good video for beginners to watch and learn from. They do not come for entertainment but knowledge that is clear and respectable.

    Hi, can you do one on how to install the carbs? Also, do you have to blow into he petcock hose and before plugging it back in? I know that on a scooter that has to be done to recreate the vacuum.

    My bike stalls out if I don't have my choke on. I just had it serviced but I feel as though the guy didn't clean the carbs well enough. Perhaps i got bad gas. Any suggestions as to trouble shooot the problem before taking the carbs off?

      The Bombshell Brothers! It's something like a barometric pressure switch,,, it goes down in front of the swing arm,,,, it must be kept clean and no kinks in it,,,, or when the gas tank gets hot it can force fuel into the carburetors,,,, and you have what they call a runaway bike you cannot stop,,,, or it can pressurize the gas tank and blow it up kill people a half a mile away,,,,. Most people just call it a vent line,,,,, hahaha,,,,

    Hi just wondering how come your air funnels were sitting on top of the airbox tray, are they not supposed to be between the top of the carburetor and the tray? after releasing the tray with undoing the 16 screws under the tabs could you get those funnels off... and putting them back is a bitch.

    omg! He's takes a screwdriver to pop of the carbs from the engine, and use the ribs as a lever,
    so scratches and paint chips wil be al over that chrome head covers and the paint on the cilinders,
    and when that aint enough, he forgot the choke cable, so he rest the whole carbs again
    on the engine, and scratch the whole engine a little more. Hell i would kick his ass when he would
    work on my bike like that.and make him pay for every damn scartch.
