- Darius Garland is a creative, thrilling 6-2, and 175-pound guard originally from Gary, Indiana. He spent a short season of college basketball at Vanderbilt for Bryce Drew, the man who always looks like he’s getting ready to take an offering, hold the hands of an older lady, thank her for her green bean casserole and pray. Might be a good career path for him now that’s he’s been fired. I KID! (I’ve been fired, I get it.)
Darius is the son of Winston Garland, a bucket-getter himself, who spent eight seasons in the NBA with a variety of teams, from 1987 to 1995. Garland the Younger is a painter with the basketball, but he’s somewhat of a mystery, having suffered a season-ending meniscal injury to his left knee after only five games.

Nice analysis...though I see some lapses...Garland was rated number 1 pg in college before the injury...his shot is next level...he in my opinion has the lowest percent of being a bust because of his shot and shot creating dribbles...

The Jason Terry comp is a great match
Every drop is a gem.
I played him two years ago while he was at Brentwood and he was one of the most graceful basketball players I’ve ever seen.
I think a realistic projection for Garland is an elite 6th man. One of those "instant offense" type dudes similar to Lou Williams. I believe he'll fall somewhere between a solid bench player and an over-average starter.

That's a pessimistic projection tbh. All his highschool career scouts have praised his pg skills and vision. He prolly didn't adjust yet, remember he just played 5 games. He's not the pure scorer type his college career shows him to be.
I think he will be a Stephen Curry type of impactful player with his quick and accurate shooting.

Rotational player? This kid will be a multiple time all star. He's that elite offensively.
Put klay or another long defender on kyrie and he crumbles...this kid isnt even that good.
He might be the right pick depending on who's left/team but lets not act as if he isnt a guaranteed defensive liability. His shooting on ball will be hampered by defenses that invite him in to make mistakes.
He is a comfortable shooter, the opposite of someone like Ball but brings none of the other assets/upside. His handles are overrated and he will get picked on defensively.
And fuck no, Kyrie is not anything near AI. AI was impossible to stop with any sort of consistency. Klay does not stop AI 5x in a row in the finals. Kyrie can get highlight plays sure but they aren't even the same species. Good thing he isnt AI, then id have to worry about the Celtics.
Id much rather my pg look like brandon ingram. The length to see over the top and be a huge problem to opposing pg's. Even jason kidd size would be much better as he was big enough to defend 3 positions and not get murdered on pnr defense.

justin wirght you can improve size by gaining weight lmaoo ,he’s the same height as Kyrie aka the average height of a point guard, the top point guards in the league can’t play defense, the only bad part in his game is his finishing which you can improve

Saw him play in Italy at a Eurocamp invitational event while he was in HIGH SCHOOL. Dude was playing pro Euro players with NBA scouts everywhere, and was torching people. He is SO fast, super confident, and his shot was lethal. Really excited for his future.

Completely agree with the assessment. The first time I watched him play, he just looked like a backup point guard. He has some elite skills for sure, but without the playmaking or finishing ability he's a 6th man on most teams.

Just wanted to make one note: when you're referring to a person instead of an object, it's "who" and not "that." As in, "Bryce Drew is the person who needs to do blah blah blah." instead of, "Bryce Drew is the person that needs to do blah blah blah."

I've been looking to Garland a lot and I agree with you. Kyrie Irving is a completely unrealistic comparison. I think Jason Terry is a pretty good comparison. But as far as I can see there are two things that he needs to go from a Jason Terry type player to a Trae Young type is his passing ability and not playing Shooting Guard and in particular not next to Collin Sexton. If he develops his passing and the Cavs catch the hint that he's a Point Guard and a short Shooting Guard who you want guarding Shooting Guards like Paul George and Bradley Beal then he will be just fine.
Definitely. People have acted like Jason Terry is an insulting comparison, and it’s really not. Guy had a long, successful, winning career.

Hey Dime Drop. Do you think Collin Sexton is a fair comparison to Garland? Both seem to be score first guards whose playmaking is questionable at the least and both being negative defensive impacts on the court it seems.

I don’t think he will be a star but he definitely will be more than a sixth man or rotational player. He will be something like a CJ McCollum. Just a hair below all star level, and can maybe make a few in his prime years. His scoring ability is too good and fits perfect for today’s game for him to fail
