This was "Yogi Berra" day at the old ballpark. Berra ended his 14 year boycott of Yankee Stadium; Don Larsen throws out the ceremonial first pitch, then he and Berra take seats to watch a perfect game themselves. Larsen and Berra are the only two players ever to be involved in a perfect game (Game 5, 1956 World Series, also at Yankee Stadium), and to later witness one themselves. Ironically, the legendary Bob Sheppard was the Yankees P,.A. announcer both times.

That helped take some of the sting off watching my team get completely skunked.

I would imagine almost any fielder starts to get really nervous when their pitcher is 5 outs from a perfect game. It's funny how the camera is on Knoblauch's face at 4:28, and you can almost see how nervous he is. Then, the ball comes to him right after. He makes a relatively routine play that I'm sure he has made thousands of time in his life, but I bet his heart was up in his throat for this one.

He was Coach Nolan's 2nd favorite just saying lol I'm amazed how smart David Cone. It's impressive how high his intelligence is outside the stadium. Truth is he paid me to drive the old man around and it's was best year I every had in baseball. I watched and waited for the movie "For Love of the Game" grab it and rushed to one my best friends house to watch it. We had just watch Cone pitch against Royals. We had nice time meeting all the Yankees my dad's uncle played for them with Mackey Mantle in 1956. He placed 3rd baseball full time. Boddy Cox played half the time with Brooklyn. Anyways baseball is greatest game in world and probably without a doubt the holy grail depending on who makes the Kool Aid It our countries national treasure. It's my religion without baseball I would not have pasted the 8th grade or nor would I have been at the right place at right time get the right information form people who kind by teaching me how to play the game I fell in love at first sight. You won't believe how much it means to me. Thank you David Cone, Pat Nolan all the 3rd grade teachers in world and many others for giving me the tools I needed. I believe I can take it from here with one headlight. Seriously God bless baseball It's gotten this country this far. It will make the big bad world peace on earth.

Hey MLB can you please add the history of the 1956 WS perfect game history before Cone's perfect game? To me this was the most unbelievable thing that ever happened in sports. Perfect games are super rare but to have one pitched after Larsen throws out the first pitch to Berra commemorating that perfect game would add so much more meaning to this one.

I'm jealous of every single one of those people that were in attendance at that game! For me? (IN MY OPINION) Witnessing a perfect game in baseball, it's almost as big as a team winning a world championship. In baseball, in ALL sports every year, we see a team win a world championship, but a PERFECT GAME? In over 140 years that the game of baseball has existed, there's ONLY been 23 perfect games that's ever been thrown, that rarity alone, it rivals a team winning a World Series Title, it might even surpass it, if anything due to the rarity aspect
