Dwyane Wise's catch is the greatest home run rob in the history of the MLB. Like Hawk said, "Under the circumstances one of the greatest catches." Couldn't agree more. And as for Mark, it will never matter what team he's with, he will always be a White Sock forever.
I was 13 years old and I remember that my dad somewhat offhandedly and at the last-minute said to my sister & I "hey, it's a beautiful day, let's go to a Sox game today!". We ended up going with my aunt and two cousins and in about the fourth or fifth inning I remember my dad leaning to my aunt and saying "hey Buehrle's got a no-hitter going here...". By the ninth we were all at the edge of our seats and when Wise made that catch at the wall, I don't think any of us had ever jumped higher out of our seats at a ballgame. Almost ten years later, I sometimes still cannot believe that I was actually at this game. I'm almost certain it will remain my favorite day at the park for the rest of my life.
Mark Buehrle's perfect game: Rays Dallas Braden's perfect game: Rays Felix Hernandez's perfect game: Rays 3 of the last 6 perfect games have been against the Rays.
+Jay W I'm a Cubs fan and even I LIKE Hawk Harrelson. His unabashed and unashamed bias towards his home team is refreshing and I, personally, like it. Other regional sports announcers today are frowned upon by their superiors for bias towards the team they're covering, and it's a shame.
+Brian Owens Very good point. In Germany, we don't have this system of regional announcers. If, for example, FC Bayern plays Hamburger SV in the league, cup or anywhere else you'll have a neutral announcer provided by the TV station. Buck Martinez is also biased towards the Jays and many say he's unprofessional, but I love him. Same with Harrelson.
+Jay W I'm a Cubs fan and he's not the issue I have with the Sox. He's enthusiastic for his team which is fine, but he also acknowledges the other team's good players and when they've made good plays.
Patrick Pavone Hard to beat games 2 and 4 of the '05 WS and game 7 of the '16 WS, but I feel ya. I watched the whole game live, my dumbass should went to the game tho...
Interesting fact: While making that catch, Wise crashed into a picture of Billy Pierce on the wall. Pierce lost a perfect game with 2 outs in the 9th inning in 1958.
Crazy thing is that he pitched 5.2 innings of perfect baseball his next time out, too. He actually set the record of most batters consecutively retired by a pitcher. I loved Buehrle as a pitcher. Dude worked fast, stayed in the zone and was a workhorse. When you pitch 14 consecutive seasons of over 200 IP, you're doing something right. Legend!
You're absolutely right, jonferris24. Buehrle was something else. Even at my advanced age, I don't think I've ever seen a pitcher who threw so many ground ball outs. (He only had six K's in this game!)
Mark Buehrle is my all-time favorite White Sox pitcher! He never had a cannon of an arm, but he was smart and athletic. One of only six pitchers in MLB history to pitch a perfect game AND a no-hitter! #56 is #1!
Mark Buehrle is one of my favorite White Sox, too, Roger. I think what does it for me is how well he fielded his position. Over the course of his tenure with my South Siders he made some amazing fielding plays. Of course I will remember forever that perfect game. It happened to fall on the day of my father's funeral. My dad was the reason I was a Sox fan. I recorded games I knew I couldn't watch back then. And when I watched Buehrle spin his masterpiece it was with a few tears in my eyes because the old man wasn't there to watch it with me.
illiniguy34 My sister and her friend got free tickets at a bar the night before because the guy had to work. Her friend had to work too so I ended up going. Best luck ever.
+Aggressive Attitude Era Dude, Hawk has got to be the single worst announcer in the history of sports. And that does include Tim McCarver and Joe Buck.
Every single time I watch this... I get teary eyed... the game was beautifully done! From the low outside pitches to his inside corners to his cutter... batters ate getting getting jammed left and right, it's simply a beautiful perfect game! I also love how his team was so happy and supportive, it wasn't only Mark who did this perfect game, it was his entire #whitesox family. After all you can't play #baseball by yourself!!!! We need him back in chicago!
I will always remember this day for the rest of my life. I was volunteering at a summer camp that day so they obviously didn't have cable or even the radio surprisingly. My mom called me after the top of the eighth and told me what was happening....so without telling anyone, I got in my car and went home. The first thing I see is that ball in the top of the ninth and immediately thought to myself that it was instant karma for just leaving haha. What a finish though. I'll always appreciate what Buehrle did for this city and for this team. A perfect game, a no hitter, hit a home run, and then the World Series. So glad I got to witness it all.
How I shared this on Facebook: For my White Sox friends, a day in baseball history. Almost forgotten is the miraculous catch that made the 25th out. For the record, I root for the Cubs over the Sox in head-to-head but have watched the Sox since childhood. My personal memorable moment was watching the Cubs' 2016 World Series win with my son. In my life, I've been to Wrigley about 100 times in parts of seven decades (1959-2014) ... but at least 50 Sox games. The only season tickets I had was a 19-game weekend package in 1983. I was at the 50th All Star game to see Fred Lynn's grand slam and game 3 of the 1983 playoffs against Detroit. I've collected 3 baseballs at old Comiskey and one batting practice ball in the bleachers at Wrigley. I'm a baseball fan from Chicago and will always laud the finest performances.
Buehrle is such an underrated pitcher. 60 (r)WAR over 16 seasons usually earns you some HOF talk. In fact, he is demonstrably better than several HOF pitchers, including the recently inducted Jack Morris.
Almost another perfect game along with this one, I’m pretty sure he would be the only pitcher in MLB history (or in a very long time) with 2 perfect games. Besides, the only base runner got picked off right away, you could make an argument for that being a perfect game, if it wasn’t based strictly by the definition of a perfect game
You always know that 9 times out of 10, a perfect game is saved by a miraculous catch by an outfielder. Also, Mark Buehrle has always been a phenomenal athlete, but this has to be the pinnacle of his pitching career by far!
I remember this day. I was stressing about work and was about to call sick and go see the Sox play at US Cellular, but I ended up going to work not thinking this would happen.
Dwayne Wise's name is rightly engraved in baseball stone because of his utterly fantastic play here. One of the greatest catches in the history of baseball. Period.
What's funny about this game is that this game was played with their backups. Friggen Josh Fields at first, Beckham at 3rd, Wise in center and I don't even know who the catcher was. amazing performance.
You can tell Wise is an awesome teammate. I mean you just don’t make that catch without 100% focus and incredible concentration. He wanted that perfect game for his pitcher. The degree of difficulty on that catch was off the charts. Maybe even Edmonds couldn’t make that play. That catch has gotta be top three on any list or countdown all time. No argument with #1 either. What a clutch play.
I’m from Miami, FL. At this point in my life, I was caught up in a lifestyle that was dangerous and the night before, I was getting dropped off home by a friend who was a “jesus freak”. Instead of dropping me off and leaving, he pulled into the driveway and turned the car off. I thought it was weird at first and when he began to tell me that he was going to pray to me and promised that I would see God in the next few days, I thought he was crazy. The next afternoon, I was hungover and withdrawing from the substance I took the night before. I turned on the TV and saw this game. It was the 7th inning and I had seen that Beuhrle had allowed no hits and no walks. I didn’t think much of it because I know how rare a perfect game is. As I watched the game, battling this splitting headache, I noticed they made a change in the outfield. With each out getting closer, I began to feel this unexplainable feeling inside me. When the outfielder, who had just been subbed in made the leaping catch, I began to get very emotional. I was in my house all alone, watching this game. When he got the final out and the announcer was screaming “Yes, yes, yes!!!”, I was bawling like never before. When Buehrle’s child was brought to him on the mound, I realized that I had just seen God. I called my friend up and he thought I was crazy but never the less, that was the moment my faith in a higher power was restored. Today I have 8 years clean and sober and I have a strong faith in a higher power. I will never forget this game.
My basketball coach just told me a story yesterday about how his friend had season ticket holders and asked him to go to the game last second. My coach said that he was grateful for that moment. He also said that the guy with the season ticket holders, his children were in the bathroom for the 9th inning so they missed history like idiots.
When i was playing small college ball; the week before this game was the last week of two a days.So when i got out of practice I went back to my dorm and saw on ESPN what was happening. I got onto a bootleg site on computer from the art department to watch the final two innings. I got academic suspension for causing possible harm to the school network and violating copyright laws. I told them that I wanted to watch what all of Chicago is watching from Iowa. Would do the same thing 1000 times over.
If it wasn't for the almost home run, I would say that this was the most dominant pitching performance in the history of the game. Forget not getting a base runner. Not a single ball was even hit hard besides the almost home run
Me and my sister got free tickets to this game, had no clue about baseball (I was 10 yrs old) crowd was going insane and we had no idea why! Molded me into the Sox’s fan I am today!

I don’t hate on Hawk, he must be a blast for local fan base. It’s the same way for the Celtics and Tommy on NBC sports Boston. So I can definitely respect Hawk lol I know us Boston fans love Tommy
This is not a highlight package. This is actually how fast Mark Buehrle worked....
Dwyane Wise's catch is the greatest home run rob in the history of the MLB. Like Hawk said, "Under the circumstances one of the greatest catches." Couldn't agree more. And as for Mark, it will never matter what team he's with, he will always be a White Sock forever.
You also have to consider Endy Chavez's in the playoffs that save the game a couple of years ago
Kyle Sandberg Yeah but they still lost. Wise's catch saved the eventual perfect game.
Wise had just been put into the game, too, specifically to play center field.
Wise saved his perfect game
HabsFanMTL88 It doesn’t matter the circumstances. Chavez’s catch was simply better than Wise’s even if Wise’s was a more important catch.
I love how everyone is hating on Hawk. The guy is passionate for his White Sox. His catchphrases are entertaining. MERCY! HE GONE!
***** A catchphrase can be annoying. The he gone is not only annoying but pretty unprofessional. Just my opinion of course
+Adam Kowalski pashion ok... being an annoying announcer... not ok
Dan Gallagher Gay slur in 2016? Nice one old timer
Ride my rodney, Homer Sexshul.
I know, right?

Daniel, thanks for sharing your great memory. I'm not jealous of you at all. Nope, not me. Seriously, Dan, good for you and good for your dad.
That's a great story! 👍
Great story buddy.
Wow❤❤❤❤❤ really envy you. It will be lifetime memory.
Lucky. I was at the Dylan cease game where he took a no-no into the ninth
"What a play by Wise! Mercy!"
Mark Buehrle's perfect game: Rays
Dallas Braden's perfect game: Rays
Felix Hernandez's perfect game: Rays
3 of the last 6 perfect games have been against the Rays.
All roughly the same team too
Zobrist, Upton, Longo, and Peña were literally at all three of those XD
I guess the rays passed the curse onto Seattle this year lmao
And the moral is ?
D-Rays haven't been no hit since.
Holy shit. I remembered Dewayne Wise's catch was at the wall, but didn't know it was a HR robber too
When Jordan Zimmerman threw his no-hitter, Steven Souza, Jr. made a great catch. But this one was better.
Everyone's hating on the Sox announcer. I personally love the "he gone" bit he says after a K.
-pirates fan

Hawk Harrelson!! Gotta be a TRUE Chicagoan to understand him!
...and a true White Sox/baseball fan to hate him lol
Important note... Ozzie brought Wise in for his defense in the ninth inning. Paid off HUGE!
as a cub fan I must say its the best single moment in the history of Chicago baseball. Hawks call was the stuff of legends.
I thought it was the Bartman incident :p
Thank you that means a lot coming from a rival Cubbie fan and lol Julian you sav
Patrick Pavone Hard to beat games 2 and 4 of the '05 WS and game 7 of the '16 WS, but I feel ya. I watched the whole game live, my dumbass should went to the game tho...
Sox fan here. Game 7 ‘16, then 05, then this in my opinion
It truly is! He was a true heart and soul of baseball!! A white Sox legend for sure!
Imagine Mark blew it after Dewayne's catch. I personally consider that catch to be the greatest catch I've ever seen.
Interesting fact: While making that catch, Wise crashed into a picture of Billy Pierce on the wall. Pierce lost a perfect game with 2 outs in the 9th inning in 1958.
WOW
The catch by Wise was just outstanding.
Gotta love Mark Buehrle
brendarooo she gone!
Mark Buehrle has gotta love Dwayne Wise. Damn , that was too close.
Crazy thing is that he pitched 5.2 innings of perfect baseball his next time out, too. He actually set the record of most batters consecutively retired by a pitcher. I loved Buehrle as a pitcher. Don't forget he won the gold glove also
💯🎯
There's always 1 great catch in a perfect game ex. Wise robbing a HR, Blanco diving catch, Jackson running catch.
MrHaroldG2000 or mickey mantles catch in the 56 world series

Stop slobbering !
the 8 dislikes is from 8/9 of the starting lineup that day, the ninth starter doesn't have a TH-cam account
Haha lol
LOL!!!!
Bryan D. ...looks like he opened up an account
Funnt bc its 9 now lmao
Add the opposing pitcher to that dislike count
Believe it or not, I was at this game. It was simply amazing.
illiniguy34 My sister and her friend got free tickets at a bar the night before because the guy had to work. Her friend had to work too so I ended up going. Best luck ever.
+illiniguy34 Awesome that you not only got to see this as live, you were spared the agony of listening to these two.
+TPTGopher Stop it. Hawk and Stony are cooler than cool.
+Aggressive Attitude Era Dude, Hawk has got to be the single worst announcer in the history of sports. And that does include Tim McCarver and Joe Buck.
David Bluhm We'll have to agree to disagree.
Hawk made this perfect game even more special
Every single time I watch this... I get teary eyed... the game was beautifully done! I hope Buehrle took Dwayne Wise out for dinner after this lol
"If they do their individual thing, then it works out collectively"
good observation hawk
Ryan Ferretti This is true, but the issues are really caused by capitalism.
+Logan Ausherman the issues are caused by hanging curves and letter-high fastballs, I believe.
Alexeiiiiiiii!!!!
YEAS!! YEAS!! YEAS!! YEAS!! HISTOREYY!
OttoDaLottoMan I like how Stan Verrett from ESPN says, or at least said that.
DMG Extra An perfect game from Mark Buehrle!
Thanks for putting this together! With my Sox struggling right now, this put a huge smile on my face!
That play by Wise was unreal
shit... Wise has made a perfect game
A gem of a performance. Wonderful catch by Wise.
Thing of Beauty. Mark was and still is my all time favorite SOX player
My favorite player of all time. Thanks for so many memories #56
I'll never forget watching this game and hearing "HE GONE ONE TO GO!!!"
What a play by Wise! Mercy!

i watch this everyday
Best all around pitcher. Great stuff, fielded his position and had one of THEE best pickoff moves ever.
Buehrle is such an underrated pitcher. 60 (r)WAR over 16 seasons usually earns you some HOF talk. In fact, he is demonstrably better than several HOF pitchers, including the recently inducted Jack Morris.

Favorite perfect game
same! ive watched this clip so many times
dewayne wise's catch was amazing
It shows the brilliance of Ozzie by substituting D Wise! I’m glad to share the same last name
Wise's catch spooked me for a moment.
I remember this day. I was stressing about work and was about to call sick and go see the Sox play at US Cellular, but I ended up going to work not thinking this would happen.
Certainly a moment I will always remember
First watched Buerhle pitch when I was in 8th grade. Fourteen years later and he's still pitching well.
The ninth inning and the tension that it had is everything that’s great about baseball :)
Hawk one of the best announcers man
The only time I seem to tear up is when great stuff in sports happen or when my wife says my in-laws are coming over...🤷🏼♂️
I remember his game like it was yesterday. That Wise catch is likely the best play I will ever see. (This is coming from a Cubs fan)
Happy 41st Birthday Buehrle
HE GONE! ONE TO GO! That one always gives me chills.
"He gone!"
What a play by Wise....MERCY!!!
This game is so beautiful
Most mlb fans wouldn’t understand HAWK! True legend
The greatest moment ive witnessed as a sox fan. Well outside of Uribe throwing to Konerko sealing the world series!
this may be my favorite perfect game to watch, the catch in the 9th and the announcer losing his shit are awesome
看完好球帶近10年十大好球,再回來重溫。
九局第一個出局數真的扯爆了!
原本要破壞完全比賽、無安打、完封的一擊全壘打,硬是被攔下來!
Cant think of a better home-er to call a perfect game than Hawk Harrelson...😊
Dwayne Wise's name is rightly engraved in baseball stone because of his utterly fantastic play here. One of the greatest catches in the history of baseball. Period.
The announcing is legendary.
Out #1: Mercy!
Out #2: He Gone!
Out #3: Lexiiiiii yes yes yes!
Was at the game on the third base line...def one of the coolest experiences of my life...ironically im a cub fan lol
i cry everytime
Goosebumps
I remember the next day they made an outline of wise's catch on the outfield wall
Call your sons, call your daughters, call your friends, call your neighbours...
The 14 dislikes are from the rays lineup and 5 of the coaches who have accounts.
What's funny about this game is that this game was played with their backups. Friggen Josh Fields at first, Beckham at 3rd, Wise in center and I don't even know who the catcher was. amazing performance.
Catcher was Ramon Castro I believe
esard2011 Beckham was their starting third baseman that year
You can tell Wise is an awesome teammate.
The Rays always getting no hit or get perfect games thrown against them lolol
They have been a pretty good team in the last 7 years, just unlucky I guess.
+Dillon Toole Which is ironic because from 2007-2011 they were always in the top 10 in OBP. No reason for them to get no hit
I wonder if anyone has ever covered more distance to rob a hr. That play by wise is insane.
RIP HP Umpire Eric Cooper 52 way too young
I’ll remember until my last breath.
I’m from Miami, FL. At this point in my life, I was caught up in a lifestyle that was dangerous and the night before, I was getting dropped off home by a friend who was a “jesus freak”. Instead of dropping me off and leaving, he pulled into the driveway and turned the car off. Every time I watch this I get chills when hawk says "wise makes the catch" I don't know why but I do
You DON'T know why?!
And how many times have the Rays been no hit? Like 20.
The Devil Rays were no-hit once. Since the name change in 2009, the Tampa Bay Rays have been no-hit four times, three of them being perfect games.
That might be wrong, but I read it on BleacherReport.
i don't know who that broadcaster is but he just became my favorite one
Dame Mr Wise....... what a catch....DAME
YES! YES! YES! YES!
HISTORY

Happy 10 year anniversary everyone
Yes, 10 years to the day. Wise's catch was the only play to CF all game. 1st pitch was the only play to 2B as well.
If it wasn't for the almost home run, I would say that this was the most dominant pitching performance in the history of the game. Forget not getting a base runner. Not a single ball was even hit hard besides the almost home run

And most people forget that in Buehrle's next start, he was perfect through 6.
Player of the Game: Dewayne Wise
The love of baseball
