Fun fact: you used to be able to do that in vanilla terraria by wearing a goldfish bowl and a Neptune shell. The neptune shell would let you breathe underwater, but only while you're touching water (so as long as you weren't in water you wouldn't transform and the fish bowl would drown you)
@squiddler7731 - I'm so sad to learn that they took that out. I did a merfolk challenge run back in the day on my PS Vita. Didn't finish, but it was really neat playing in a way that was so different. I still have that world.
Fun fact; there are 3 types of torches that can be used and placed underwater. Cursed Torches, Ichor Torches, and Coral Torches. Coral Torches are especially useful as they can be made in pre-hardmode only using normal torches and coral from the ocean. That would be helpful when trying to light, oh I dunno, an underwater arena?
This can also be very relevant in a normal run if you get the turtle mount early on, the lava shark at any point, or eventually the shrimpy truffle; underwater arenas become pretty objectively superior to normal ones. Sacrifice all of your mobility accessories & still get better mobility than even a full loadout of them could give you (especially in the case of the shark & fishron, but even the turtle beats any non-mount mobility you can get in pre-hardmode). Non-flying mounts tend to suffer a bit with jump height or horizontal mobility in exchange for the other (& infinite flight mounts are for the most part mid in every direction in exchange for maneuverability), but the swimming mounts have no such downside aside from requiring you to reenact Noah's arc for them to be useful. Honestly I think the lava shark would be the #1 crutch tool for the entire game up to the shrimpy truffle if it wasn't such a pain in the ass to get. 73mph of unrestricted movement with acceleration comparable to that of the best mount in the game available PRE-BOSS is absurdly broken & trivializes absolutely everything in the exact same way as the shrimpy truffle; but you can use it as early as the EOC & move so fast that you can make it despawn in seconds even in the expert mode perma-dash death phase. If you take the time to flood your arena (& you could realistically get a bottomless bucket in all the time it'd take to fish for the damn thing; you could even use the lava bucket thanks to the special immunity the mount gives)-or just fight in the ocean when applicable-nothing else comes REMOTELY close to the lava shark for AT LEAST all of pre-hardmode-& that's assuming the first thing you do after getting to hardmode is killing DF for its upgrade-it's unparalleled by anything else in the entire game.
The way I did a challenge similar to this was starting out a character with Neptune’s shell and a fishbowl on their head. That way, you “drown” on land but can breathe underwater. The fish transformation only takes effect when you’re considered underwater, and having the fish bowl on doesn’t count as being underwater, so you can’t breathe. You might be asking how you start it? Well, you make a desperate dash for the nearest body of water, probably die a few times in the process, get iron, make a bucket, then perform the infinite water glitch. We made a rule that we could take off the fishbowl to use set bonuses only if we were sure we would _stay_ in the water, so for example if we made giant flooded arenas. But while exploring we couldn’t have set bonuses. In any case, similar premise but very different execution due to the choice of starting loadouts.
“Speed unmatched by pre-hardmode terraria” Lava shark being one of the fastest mounts in game, with a speed almost the same as fishron mount while in water:
@@wildlmao hey, thanks for replying. It’s not often that even small creators talk to me, it was @flayming (Minecraft TH-camr) who made me feel it first, and they were at less than 10k subs. Thank you. I agree, the lava shark is actually so insane but a nightmare to get.
You can use bubble blocks to make a better lighting source in the arena not because they glow (they dont), but because you can put four bubble blocks and a wall in the center with a torch on it. I recommend blue torches so you can see in the water better. You will also most likely need dynasty walls from the traveling merchant to see smaller and more blue projectiles like the moonlord's. Just place them in the arena. Theres also a block that does the opposite thing as the bubble block and im not sure what you can use it for, but mabye you have something in mind.
That was wild lmao. Would be cool with the mod that swaps drowning in water and air. You could hop out of the water for a few seconds to hang out with NPCs or whatever.
I love this editing style, and can imagen it's taken awhile to work around/create but it's massively payed off and provides a really entertaining video, especially for how criminally underrated this is. You and your channel deserve more love! Covering such obscure ideas/challenges that can be wild/wonderous and concepts/general obscurity has always taken my interest so you've just gotten yourself a subscriber
I always use the ocean for the event's like pumpkin moon It works very well because pumpkings get slowed in water and with the blood shark you don't need to worry about movement
there's actually an item from the don't starve crossover that helps with lighting, the magluminesence... or something along those lines, an accessory that gives you increased movement speed and light, fun item to use and doesnt take an armor slot.
This challenge would be cool to see with the Calamity mod because you could try to settle in the Abyss. The eutrophic sea would also be cool to explore
I love how you stayed to the rules of the challenge the best you could but did obviously have some points where you were out of water and not making a big deal out of it. It is exactly how I would do it
This reminds me of my "Reject monke, return to feesh" world on minecraft. Built up enough to body an ocean monument and conquer it, and then spent the rest of my time trying to see just how livable a mermaid larp was. Suprisingly super fun. I specifically remember both furnaces and beds worked just as normal, which was just insane to me. Redstone was trickier, but I managed to hook up a bubble launcher. It was really cool to be able to use all the space in a room, instead of being stuck to the floor. Dolphins came in to chill in my house, no real threats. It was a fun world
Im so glad i just found your content. Your editing is comparable to Bijou's, and if you've ever seen his content, you'll know that's a massive compliment. I'd love to see this challenge continue on into a full series.
11:13 protip (even tho this challenge has already ended and i'm not a good terraria playing by any means) it's gonna be quicker if you click the inf water bucket on air blocks, so if you moved your cursor in circles you would've gotten it done quicker at least that's how it was for me based on my personal experience but idk you could check it yourself later
Damm u r actually a great youtuber and use memes effectively not like other youtubers who just spam meme clips and sounds and ur actually funny great video i would want an part 2 of this
Honestly, dying isn't even the worst part when farming for the diving helmet. You could use a battle potion and blue candles and it would STILL take forever for sharks to appear. Additionally, the droprate is ridiculously low.
Funny thing I remembered watching this challenge. Back in the days, when I was playing terraria for the first time, there were no hardmode, no mech bosses, and water didn't evaporate in hell. And I wasn't really carefull when I was digging down and one or two really big underground lakes later I accidentally flooded the hell. Like it was 20-30 blocks deep water. It was really hard to mine anything there, mobs rarely spawned because of it. Just bath day in hell
If you ever do this again, a strategy you can do for permanent lighting solutions is to grab some coral from the ocean, and craft them into coral torches, which can be placed underwater alongside coral campfires. (I do this for my oceans normally because why not?) I think Tiki torches, candles, candelabras, chandeliers, and lanterns (Heart / Star) also work underwater, but I am not sure. However, since you are in hardmode now, you are probably going to use cursed flames / ichor to craft torches instead, since they don't go out in water too. (Plus, bubble blocks from the party girl can create an airlock of sorts, if you ever wish to shimmer stuff again) One last thing, you probably won't need it with the Neptunes Shell / Obsidian Shark, but the gills potion exists, allowing you to spend as much time as you want underwater without drowning. Combine that with the flipper potion (which is like the flippers + trident) you become the god of the sea for around 4 minutes. The Gills needs waterleaf, coral, and bottled water, while the flipper needs shiverthorn, waterleaf, and bottled water.
Y'know, it actually would kind of make sense if the eye of cthulu were enraged underwater because either it would be like eye drops and make it stronger, or it would sting like crazy and make it angry
There is actually a challenge where you have to use the fish bowl and the shell + upgrades Of course there are no helmets because you have a fishbowl in your armour slot This sort of thing is generally called a challenge class
If in this challenge, first thing i would look for would be the beach. Ger coral and make Coral Torches, as they light underwater. Would be great for making submerged NPC housing too.
I actually made an underwater arena to try to use the turtle mount against skeletron in for-the-worthy master mode. I realized it was a downgrade though, largely because the sudden acceleration of jumping and dashing are really good for dodging Skeletrons attacks, which all slowly home in on you. This means the turtle mount is basically only good as a gills potion plus flippers. Sad.
You are the best! I noticed your channel a long time ago (just use blocks video)and from that moment you only get better and better!no used items run was very fun and montage was 10/10, your ideas are very interesting and mechanic video helped me a lot,i hope you get 100k subs at some point!
