How to empty the bin on Dyson V8™ Cord-free vacuums

- All Dyson V8 cord-free vacuums include a new bin emptying mechanism. This hygienically drives out dust and debris in one action. There’s no need to touch the dirt.
Step 1. Take care to empty as soon as the dirt reaches the level of the MAX mark - do not overfill.
Step 2. Make sure your machine is disconnected from the charger before emptying the clear bin, and be careful not to pull the 'ON' trigger.
Step 3. To make emptying the clear bin easier, we recommend removing the wand and floor tool. To release the dirt, hold the machine by the handle, pull the red lever back and lift upwards to release the cyclone. Continue until the bin base automatically opens and releases the dirt.
Step 4. To close, push the cyclone downwards until it is in the normal position and manually close the base of the bin - the base will click when it is securely in place.

I cannot get the bottom to open up. The shark on the other hand is very easy to open up. But with this, even after watching three videos, I can’t do it. Because they all assume that once I pull up that red lever the bottom will open. But it does not.
Helpful video! The bottom popped right open, but I wasn't in the right position and spilled half the dirt onto my foot. Fortunately, I had a vacuum cleaner right in my hand.

If only it actually worked that way. Pull the red lever and whole inner unit lifts up. Which, presumably, is the reason so many people have to look up TH-cam to find out how to empty the damn thing.

Glad I watched this. When I pulled the red 'empty bin' trigger it loosened the dynamo but the bottom didn't drop open, and the noise made by the dynamo as you raise & close it sounded like I was forcing something that was going to break so I stopped immediately, praying I hadn't ruined my brand new vacuum cleaner.

Looks like it a bad design as my parent’s new one does this too, you have to completely pull the whole unit out before it pops

You have to pull the upper attachment up to release the bottom. You pull the red tab until the filter rises out of the dust bin, and then pull a little more and it pops open the bottom

The manual doesn't make this so explicit. The 'cyclone' has to be pulled right up , for the bin our to open.

Does anyone else have a hard time with this? It seems graceful in the video, but my compartment does not open if I do it that slowly. It has to be yanked hard for the bottom to open and I feel like it’s going to break.

We're sorry to hear about the difficulty with emptying your canister.
When emptying the bin on the Dyson V8™, you'll want to pull up on the red lever. This will engage the rubber collar that drives out the debris. If it feels as if it cannot be pulled up any further, just give the red lever another tug to engage the opening of the bin lid.
After you've emptied the bin, it's important to note that you must push the cyclone back into the bin BEFORE closing the lid. If you close the lid first, this can cause it to jam and become difficult to empty the next time you empty it. We'd also advise against filling the bin past the MAX fill line as this can also result in a difficult to empty bin.

Ours too. Sometimes it works fine, butalways feels like it is going to break. The last time it was impossible, we had to prised it open eventually ,very carefully, with a cake fork...
I have the same issue, pull it harder then canister dropped in the bin. I thought I might break it and tried to figure it out putting them back. If I knew this issue I won’t buy Dyson v8

I have just taken delivery of a new Dyson V8. I already have a much older one. As I have a tenancy in my house I intend to make the older one available to the tenant. I want to be able to use both machines completely interchangeably and I would like your assurance that this would be safe in all respects. I am reassured that both batteries are lithium ion and have an emf (?) of 21.6 volts, and the relevant mechanical parts appear identical. The serial number of the older machine is TS3-UK-JCA6319A and that of the new one is U7P-UK-REV5359A; the other notations that may be relevant are SV11 and SV25 respectively.
The instruction book for the new machine lacks the description, function and maintenance of the two filters, but the descriptions on line that you have provided appear to suffice; other purchasers may not have facilities enabling them to access that information.
Hi Stephen, we don't recommend use on machines that certain accessories/batteries are not designed for, as it can change specifications, and we cannot predict how the machine will perform
A more considered (engineering rather than legalistic) reply would be helpful. Surely, if the spec and design of the charger unit has not changed between the dates of production of the two machines, then either of them could be used safely for either machine.

I think, the common mistake is that you closed the bottom bin first and then the top canister. You have to do it the other way around.

It really is not that easy, there is a design fault the stops the vacuum from opening. Surprised Dyson hasn’t addressed this

@@dyson V8. I finally got it open after hearing from someone else just to pull it as hard as you can. Even now, it takes about 4-5 tries to pry it open. I am pushing down the cylinder first when I close it but it still gets jammed.
@@oliverjason I am 6'2" 200 lbs. I have strong hands. I opened this a couple of times the third time I couldn't get it open. I called and they didn't even try to explain, they just sent me a new cyclone right away, so they must have a problem with them. The link they sent me to replace the cyclone doesn't work. And I can't find it on TH-cam. I will never buy another Dyson. I told my son with a cheap Chinese knock off he should get a Dyson, meanwhile his was easy to open.
@@ront9395 after a while of dealing with the hard pull, it finally started working right. It must have gotten stuck and now its back on the track or something.
@@oliverjason I watch the video by Leokim. He explains that the reason they break is you have to close the top first then the bottom. So I was able to get mine apart and then after that you just have to make sure that you close the top first first. After you know that the stupid picture instructions makes sense.
If you cannot open.
Pull up the cyclone, pull down the bin and take it out ,then open the red thing (on the side of the bin) the take the bin back and pull down vthe cyclone part the close the bin last.
If only you included visual instructions with the included paper manual, i wouldn't need to look up a video.

Pulled up on the red bit as shown and the entire bin fell off rather than just the bottom flap shown here (and even when detatched I still couldn't get that flap to open)

Great vacuum, but i had to watch this video because of the abysmal paper instructions that come with it.
I empty mine exactly this way and it broke.

My v10 is a nightmare to open, you need 3 hands, also all the dirt drops out again when you hang it up. It just moves dirt around. Never getting a Dyson again, dreadful engineering.
In videos of the V10 it seems as though you need two hands just as this one? One to hold it, the other to slide the dust container. Or a third hand to slowly open the flap, but that’s the same problem this one has - they literally eject open.
I live in VA where the humidity is mild and it’s still an issue. When I lived in CO designs like these were absolutely unacceptable because of the dust cloud they would kick up if you used them as designed. I’ll never understand why all of these vacuums have adopted similar eject features.

I cannot believe I have to search videos to try to open the lid, previous models are so easy to use, that’s why I bought this one…I still haven’t opened the lid, had to take it all apart…the lid just won’t open…Why did you guys change the design? I cannot believe it! This is not intuitive at all

Dumbest design I've ever encountered on anything in my entire life. Like wtf is wrong with this company lol. "Oh woow look at us we reinvented the wheel and turned it into a square!"
Didn't need to waste time showing vacuuming at the beginning. We already know it's a vacuum!

This is not intuitive at all! Very disappointed in dyson! Also the vacuum has very little suction. If I would have gotten this on a Black Friday door buster (aka dirt cheap) it would be going back.
Stupidest design ever.
Don't buy this hoover to hoover your house. you will be frustrated, very frustrated.
1) the 'wall holster' only holds 3 tools it comes with 6! so the other three have to lay around or Dyson support recommend “putting them in a draw…” but why make half a wall holder in the first place?
2) it takes 2 days to hoover your house, the charge lasts for less than 10 minutes!!! good luck speed cleaning your house in that time - you can have a 5 hour rest though whilst you wait for it to recharge.
3) the 'exhaust; blows air out near the handle... so often if used with the short fitting the exhaust blows all the dust away before you get to it!!!
4) Dyson support said "get a toothbrush and a tooth pick" to clean the various filters - yes really - otherwise it doesn't pick anything up. so get a good toothbrush as you'll need to clean the hoover inside and out at LEAST every month... washing the filter… and drying it, more time to relax and think about hoovering tomorrow.
5) to extend charging - get another battery - Dyson support advise to "remove the 3 screws holding the battery in place... and get another battery" - so you get double the hoovering time, double the charge time too (10 hours) I have done this and now the battery falls out every time I use it... I guess it's another 'feature' feels a bit unsafe though having a heavy battery falling out every time you pick it up... not sure about Health and Safety - but it was recommended by Dyson...
So buy this for hoovering crumbs off the table and little things - not a whole house hoover - it is underperforming, under powered and over priced.
A very expensive disappointment.
