I am literally stunned. I NEVER would have thought this possible. You can't see their fingers, they're moving/striking so fast! GREAT rendition of this throbbing, galloping piece of music. And a great piano partnership! Tusen TAKK fra Norge!
With this theme, I always imagine the exhilarating movie scene of the Cossack horsemen led by Taras Bulba galloping in the steppes on their Ride To Dubno to meet with the Hetman of the Cossack brotherhood. Franz Waxman must be smiling.
@@dccarletonjr that’s right…part of the history of the freedom-loving, proud, independent spirit of the people of Ukraine came from the Cossacks of the Zaporozhian Sich or Host that was an independent Cossack Hetmanate that existed for over a hundred years between the 16th to the 18th centuries that fought wars against the Poles, Ottoman Turks, Russians and Tatars. These Cossacks lived in the lower region of the Dnieper River in Ukraine (modern-day Zaporizhzhia). The Cossacks portrayed in the movie Taras Bulba that featured this music theme known as the the Ride To Dubno, was about these Ukrainian Zaporozhian Cossacks.
Absolutely stunning performance from the two pianists sounds almost as good as a full orchestra.Whats even more fantastic is they've not got any sheet music.
Wonderful transcription! This piece was composed for a big orchestra, and it's quite rousing played that way, too, but the music is exciting on two pianos as well!
My wife's great grandfather was a member of the cossack brotherhood. He wore a sabre and carried two pistols. He had three horses killed under him in eastern european battles sometime after the 1860s.
@@kpete9219 My Pop was always a Cossack in his heart. We saw this movie in '62 and he was emotionally moved. His parent emigrated for the Ukraine in the early teens of the 20th century, and their Cossack heritage never left them. Thanks for posting; it is appreciate by real Russians.
Pianoman, I never played the piano. I played giitar back in the '60', But never took it up, again.I joined the Navy. I was an engineer! Now, my fingers are not flexing, right. Even worse, I can no longer read music. I am more comfortable with a wrench, than with a pick. Keep making music, my friend. I no longer can! But if you wan't your aircraft to sing the skies, I can do that. AIRPLANES ARE BEAUTIFUL!! =Stefan=
There was one I saw in the 1960s. The man was tall, thin, with a big mustashe. His head was shaved and he wore a scalp lock.He had a sabre and two pistols. He also wore a bandolier of ammo crossing his chest. There was a horse standing behind him with a decorative saddle. He lived on the polish/russian border which was constantly changing. When it became russian they grabbed him at the age of 16 and put him in a cossack regiment.
The ride of il Regimiento Húsares de Pueyrredón, the Argentine cavalry who stood in for the Cossaks in the filming of "The Ride to Dubno." One of the more impressive sequences in any film I recall ever having sen.
@RickMHobson Yes, there are indeed two Pianos here. The one played by Per has the lid removed since it would face the the lid of her Piano, were it raised.
I liked that. Great piece played with commitment. Make great concert pieces without having to employ an Orchestra. I imagine they would have listened to the Waxman originals a few times to get it that cose.
On another duo, Waltz of the flowers, I felt Tengstrand had the burden of the hard part. Here, if this could be pictured as an imaginary respond, I think they both share this challenge equally.
I really think he held her down! Also, another thought, in spite of the common beliefe, Taras was NOT Russian. He was a Ukrainian Kozak. (Not Cossack). My father was one. And I also read the book by Nikolaye Gogol, in the original language. (Ya rosomiyu po nashimo).I speak and read Ukrainian. OMG, If that beautiful woman would ever be mine (Fat Chance) I would never stop her from giving beauty to the world! The only thing I would demand, don't let your hair flop in front of your face. It will cover your lovely face. Reallity check. =Stefan=

That certainly gets the blood roiling. A really rousing rendition. Right on.

Brilliant and exciting.

Flawless!
Magnificent! I enjoy a full orchestra rendition of this but this is very entertaining and well done! Per Tengstrand may need to see a barber.
Yes, per is the original "long hair".
Breath-taking!
Double fantastic!!!

Somehow the piano duo version is more exciting than the film version.
Er....no.
That's other way around, willytheball. The movie was shot first and Franz Waxman composed this music for the movie. Yes, it's awesome.
OOhh! As we say in Hawai'i, chicken skin. (Goose bumps). This was thrilling!!!=Stefan=
I know the original (orchestral version) very well, and... I'm starting to prefer this one! :D

I LOVE THIS. this is so amazing! and is that a connected piano? (: cool.
@BudgiesFTW these Pianos are only next to each other, not physically connected. The only connection point may be between the two Pianists!
Just thinking,if someone shout "Zaporohy" in there
@Pianoman37 Look at the Veoh video site for some kozak music.
Wow! Would you have any pictures of this man?

Thanks...I have to admit that I don't really know ethnic Cossack music, do you know anywhere one could hear that online?
@roky24
My aunt DeAnna and uncle Danny bought the sheet music from the composers son
Its $150
Not to worry, Stefan, I had a feeling it was the woman you were writing to, haha. Thanks for your comments in any case!

Am I seeing things, or is that -one- piano? I'm only seeing one lid up.
They considered it a disgrace in the family because he was polish.
