    Today will go down as one of the best days in cinema tech. Resolve 19 saw some crazy updates which will launch soon, but the even bigger news was Blackmagic designs announcement of 3 different cinema camera. The first being the Ursa Cine 12 FF LF, the second being a massive resolution bumped IMAX 17k Ursa Cine and the long awaited and much request box cameras. There where plenty of other announcements like price reductions on the video assists, new cloudstores, media modules and more….

      I know right, its awesome that companies like IRIX are making such fantastic products that are actually affordable. I would love to try some out.

    When those Resolve features dropped I zoned out for a few minutes. I legit teared up. I've been asking for some of these features for about 10 years now. Not everything's what I was looking for, but much of it is! I thought they had drifted from the QoL I was looking for to chase bigger things needed for movies/TV. Nothing against cinematic needs of course, I just don't handle footage much anymore so it wasn't anything that I needed. I'll be checking every day now, I can't wait!

    As a current 6k FF user, I don't see the Pyxis replaces it for now. I love the ability to look like a photographer in moments where discretion is needed, and I don't use an EVF. The biggest hook they sunk in me was the Ursa Cine LF. I kinda wish they had announced a version that strips some of the features away to make it more affordable, like the wireless and 2nd screen, but alas, I'm very curious.

      Pyxis 6K serves a different yet overlapping market from BMCC6K. Former for A cam, shoulder rig operation, etc. Latter mainly for solo operation, travel filmmaking, etc. I think it's a good strategy from Blackmagic.

    Today was certainly a Avengers: Endgame kinda moment. They dropped an atomic bomb on the industry. I am eating my own words. I did not have faith for them to do what they did. An they did it. I was a doubter. Fully admitting that. I’ve never felt so good to be so wrong. Cheers Blackmagic. Great job on this launch.

    Personally, I've always wanted this from BMD. Just didn't like the shapes of the cams. I need a video cam and was determined not to do Komodo X and Red just because I believed someone would deliver in the way that's affordable. Now, with their complete workflow and end to end approach, I see no reason to not get this Pyxis 6K. I already use Resolve, and like G. Petty, I hate subscription models like Adobe. I dare say, that BMD has made it pretty hard on their competition with these moves. For somebody like me, Pyxis is the answer. Now, I don't have to think about Komodo. That's me and where I'm at. With their URSA moves against the top-end where Sony and Alexa live, they have unleashed a major shot across the bow of these companies. They've really done damage to the big dogs over the years (e.g. Avid, Autodesk Flame, etc). Now, this. For me, I'm a simple man. Give me what I want, I'll build out the rest. That's what the 'box-cut' gives us.
    Whatever Pyxis 6K is missing, I'll be fine with that. Not to mention, if the Video Assist ends up working with it, checkmate for me. I'll probably elect to work with the L-Mount and bridge anywhere I need to go from there. I'm a Fuji guy on the stills side so I have a real appreciation for the film stock looks. Bravo BMD! Thanks for these videos, man! They've been very helpful for me. Keep it up.

    But you didn’t give us any details about the box camera… Auto focus? Rolling shutter? God is in the details.

    • @cinechimp
      @cinechimp  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The details were slim, no AF - that would have been a big thing if included in the camera and would have been a key selling feature. The Box camera appears to be a redesign of the pocket 6k - even the footage used is from the pocket 6k release video. More to come...

    16 stops it should mean 13.5 realistic stops , still making it a half stop less than the 15 year old Arri Alexa

      Buy some lights? You’ve never uploaded a single video using 16 stops. Not one reported sensor at 16 stops is a true 16 stops. Now, any REAL complaints?

      @@kamikaze1213 what the heck are you saying . Blackmagic design and other manufactures are known to up the DR at press . I will go on record and tell you from simple eye test it’s at least 2/3rd of stop less than the classic Alexa which is rated 14 stops .. we need to end this BS , and just be frank about this number , in no way form or shape this is more than 13-13.5 stops .

      @@chicobraz4335 that’s exactly what I’m saying. People complain about Dynamic range knowing full well they’re going to slap REC 709 on it and upload it to TH-cam. That’s my bitch, stop trying to crutch cameras based on an imaginary DR number. the number isn’t big enough? Buy some F*cking lights.

    So I'm the only one that's remarkably disappointed? I wanted a Mini URSA with a full frame for another $2000-$3000. Instead we get a camera that costs $9000 more than the ursa mini and is twice the size. It's a camera that will fit on almost no gimbal and will be a massive beast to shoot handheld. We finally get a box camera and again, no internal ND filters. I guess I'm the only one that bought a bunch of 6k pro cameras and said I'm never buying another camera without internal ND as long as I live. I'm not going back to variable ND. I'm not going back to screwing filters on. I'm not going back to ND filters that make everything green. I'm not going back to $450 filters that break because they're literally just big pieces of glass. I'm not going back to spending 2 minutes to change out a ND filter on a run n gun shoot. Man fuck these cameras.

    • @cinechimp
      @cinechimp  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yes two of these cameras are expensive, but they are also not targeted at everyone. I believe this is blackmagic attempt to try to really break into the higher end market and compete with the likes of ARRI Red and Sony. With the box cam, yes no internal NDs….

    • @damianotchere
      @damianotchere 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      lol bro I def feel your pain once you get built in NDs it’s extremely hard to go to anything without that. Not going to lie… I def see a place for the Pyxis. Yes it’s missing some things but at that price point it’s definitely worth it
