  • Offered for sale is this freshly imported Steyr/Puch Pinzgauer 712K 6x6, a 1977 Austrian Military vehicle in full olive drab with the hard top body and just 19K KM (12K Miles). This incredible machine was in service with the Austrian Military until just last year, and has received state-sponsored maintenance since new. It is powered by a simple and powerful 2.5 liter air-cooled four cylinder, coupled to a rugged 5-speed manual transmission with high and low AWD and front and rear lockers.
    These are among the most rugged, reliable, durable, and capable military vehicles ever produced, and are designed to overcome even the most grueling terrain with minimal fuss. With offset axles and a tube-style frame, ground clearance is amazing with incredible structural integrity. This 6 wheeled hard-top vehicle is the most desirable of all Pinzgauers, and would make an incredible off-road camper or transport.
    These vehicles have clean Florida titles and should be easy to register in most states (check with your local DMV if uncertain). Please study the many photographs and watch our TH-cam video to get the best idea of this vehicles cosmetic and running condition.

    It's not a speedy Gonzales but a mountain goat like no other with unbelievable capabilities, even scary how steep they can climb over rocks and gravel, manage mud or mountain stream cross overs. It's a Steyr Daimler Puch creation, the bigger brother from the earlier made "Haflinger" from Graz Austria. Later on the Puch G or Mercedes G as it is word wide known this days was also created by the same people. They made the chassis and the engine came from Mercedes, but the "G" was first built in a factory in Salzburg, Austria near the German border.

      When I served in the Albanian military, we used military-spec Mercedes-Benz Geländewagens as our all-terrain utility vehicle - many equipped with OM617 Turbo-Diesel engines - the engine of our National car, the W123 300D Turbo.

    I'm definitely interested in acquiring something similar to this in the coming years; but, I am only concerned about the lack of turbos on the engine...seems to lack some punch getting onto the roads...not a deal breaker in no way. But my last diesel i will say that it makes a huge difference on the highways as well as in and around the city... and i would definitely be doing some daily commutes to work with this type of car....maintenance concerns me as well, would have to read up on some shop manuals to keep it in shape every 6 or so months. All in all nice video and nice vehicle, way more awesome than a hummer.

      Still remains the question of the price. And the major problem with such a toy is when some parts brake, good luck finding a replacement...
      And since it was built in 1977, there's a good chance you'll soon be replacing some parts (if it's still possible to find them...)

      +Very Good
      Indeed, but a starter for my Chevrolet truck is about fifty bucks. As a matter of fact, I also own a military XM-811A five-ton military truck, and the starter for that is only about two hundred. That starter is nearly as powerful as the Pinzgauer's main engine! For the record, I considered a Pinzgauer 712K before I bought my five-ton; the cost of parts and maintenance scared me off, though.
      Nevertheless, they are, in my opinion, excellent vehicles; I would own one were I a bit more flush with cash.

    • @verygood7155
      @verygood7155 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I owned a 1973 710M 1 ton for 3 years until the economic crash. I paid $7,500 then and sank about 4 grand in it over the three years. But most of that was non mechanical. These vehicles have a service manual written in 3 or 4 languages including English that explains exactly how to do all the maintenance and it is written for non mechanics like most soldiers in the field. These vehicles are so well made that they will function even if poorly tuned. Back in 1973 they cost the better part of 100 grand. Back when a new Jaguar V12 convertible cost under 8 grand! The precision and engineering makes these somewhat plain looking vehicles far more rugged and reliable than anything ever built. You wont find a more reliable vehicle anywhere. If you can work on an old air cooled VW then you can work on these. In fact these are easier to maintain than old VW's in many ways. Even though parts may be costly you wont likely be replacing anything like a starter for a long long time. Remember these vehicles were constantly serviced during their military days so much of these vehicles are made of parts much newer than the manufacturer date. I cant think of a Japanese car that is anymore reliable than a Pinzgauer. Because these were manufactured before computerization of vehicles, any well trained mechanic or determined hobbyist will have little difficulty with them. They are far easier to maintain than anything manufactured these days. The great thing about Pinzgauers is their size and their ability to lean over 45% sideways before they tip over! Compared to a Humvee they are far more capable and they are the same width as a common soft top jeep which means you can squeeze between trees better than wider vehicles. In fact they have hardwood rub-rails for that purpose. Hardwood has some flex and give and holds up remarkably well under severe abuse. I could go on and on. If you want to get a less expensive rig then my second choice would be an older carburetted or diesel Land Rover Defender. I'd stay clear of other Land Rovers because those can be maintenance nightmares. To be perfectly fair, even an old Chevy Suburban or an early Toyota 4runner can be made into great off-roaders at a far lower price.

    I was just about to buy this from you, however, you didn't say "purpose built" enough so I wasn't confident that the vehicle wasn't designed by a blind child with random features. so I will pass this time.
