Thousand Sons, once the 15th Legion, was a Legion full of the most powerful psykers in the Imperium. When they fell to Chaos, because of an ancient curse, all the Thousand Sons space marines were turned into sentient dust, trapped inside their armor.
Not all of them. Only the weaker sorcerers succumbed to the flesh change and became rubric marines. The stronger sorcerers remained flesh and blood, like Imurah and Arhiman
Sentient dust? Like they turned to dust but still forced to fight? Are something controlling them?

The Rubric of Ahriman was a disastrous spell cast by Ahriman, the Chief Librarian of the Thousand Sons, that was to cure the legion of the flesh-change, the Tzeentchian curse, that would cause a Thousand Sons Space Marine to spontaneously transform into a Chaos Spawn. The result was that less than 100 of the Thousand Sons that were psychically powerful remained flesh and blood with their powers boasted to even greater heights. All others were reduced to dust sealed in power armor to be puppeted by these sorcerers.

Continuity and lore notes:
The Thunderhawk, Lance of Jove, that crashed while transporting Titus and company to their next mission is most likely the same Lance of Jove from the original game that transported Titus, Sidonus, and Leondros to Graia. Since these engines of war are very often hundreds of years old it is almost a certainty it is the same gunship which is a nice connection among several that are made through this game.
A Tyranid Neurothrope is put simply a more evolved and more powerful Zoanthrope.
The fake guardsmen are Chaos cultists that have stolen uniforms and kit from Cadian guardsmen. Another channel showed a close up of the one cultist with the vox and he has brown eyes. Cadians are known for their purple eyes.
Aside from cultists, the Chaos Space Marines are no ordinary Chaos Space Marines. These are Rubric Marines of the Thousand Sons Traitor Legion. Due to a spell gone wrong, all Thousand Sons Space Marines that were not psykers were turned into dust bound within their sealed armor led like automatons by their sorcerer brethren.
Additionally, Tzaangors are beastman mutants that serve the Thousand Sons and their patron Chaos God, Tzeentch. And by serve, I mean they serve as cannon fodder. Tzaangors are also a bit controversial within the tabletop realm of 40k because their model kit was ported from Age of Sigmar, the fantasy Warhammer game franchise. Thousand Sons players are often miffed by this since GW simple padded their model roster with a kit from the fantasy Warhammer franchise instead of making some new and unique to 40k while also seeming to offer at least one set of Tzaangors in every discount box set for Thousand Sons.
It's episode 10 and they still have the same enemies.
Avarage Astra Militarum grunt has a life expectancy of 15 hours. Unless you are Cadian or Catachan (aka Warhammer 40k equvivalent of Texans and Australians), being a normal dude just sucks
