They grow naturally along watercourses here in Australia and grow fast with lots of water, but can also withstand dry conditions where they are much slower growing.

Wow I had no idea there were lemon bottlebrush that were red! I have a lemon bottlebrush but it’s called that because it’s yellow 😎 A fun fact is they are making more species of bottlebrush that don’t turn into seeds after they flower because it uses lots and lots of the plants energy to make those.

So cool! Yes, This one smells like lemon when you mess with the leaves. It's a nice scent and lovely plant. Thanks for watching.

If you are planting a large bottlebrush, be wary of planting near underground water pipes. They can even handle boggy soil.

Thanks for the tip. There is a mature row I see on the drive home and it has been pruned to a hedge... It's beautiful this time of year!

do you prune down the twigs with the old hardened flower leftovers? I just bought one and only has 2 new blooms on 2 branches, the rest is covered in those old flower buds, not hardened yet.. I bought it online so had no idea what I was getting.

Can I plant them now in the fall?

I think it depends on your climate. You might want to keep it in a pot until the spring if you are concerned about damage from the cold weather.

I killed two bottlebrush plants. Do they not like terracotta? Used sandy soil w/ perlite.

It would have to be a really big pot. Coming from someone who lives in Australia, I’ve never actually seen a bottlebrush in a pot...But that might be because most people have one in their backyard 😂

I've only grown them in ground, sorry they died.

Mine haven’t died but have only grown three inches in a year. No flowers yet.

Same, I lost my two little John bottle brush trees once I brought them inside for the winter. I tried grow lights as my house is limited with south windows for best light and they did not like that. Plus... I experienced root rot from over watering them... Once a week... I'm surprised they grow in watery areas...
