ZION, BRYCE & ESCALANTE: BEST motorcycle roadtrip in UTAH and the USA!

  • Join a roadtrip to the majestic peaks of Zion Nationalpark and its roads less traveled, ride on Utah’s famous Scenic Byway 12 and visit the outerworldy landscapes of Bryce Canyon and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
    Highlights of this epsiode:
    - From the town Hurricane we went to Virgin - and instead of following the the main road that crosses Zion National park, we took a left turn on Kolob Terrace Road, to approach the park from another less traveled direction, from the west. And we stayed at a very special place: Under Canvas.
    - Under Canvas is probably one of the best glamping experiences you can get. You are in the middle of the amazing nature, but the tents have super comfortable beds, showers and toilets.
    - The next morning we explored a lesser-traveled section of Zion: "Kolob Terrace". The ride up to Lava Point offers exceptional views, from golden valleys to the majestic North and South Guardian Angels. Its said that Zion Canyon is the heart of Zion National Park, and Kolob Terrace is where its soul lies.
    - Afterwards we took the the 6-mile Mt. Carmel Highway through the park. It is a nice but mostly crowded experience. The ride provides visitors easy access to viewpoints and hiking trailheads.
    - We rode through Dixie National Forest
    - One of the Highlights: we visited Bryce Canyon! Bryce Canyon appears as a forest of rocks - its most distinctive feature are so called hoodoos, tower-like natural geologic features
    - We traveled on Utah’s Scenic Byway 12 through the town Escalante. Utah’s Scenic Byway 12 is the only main road,that enters the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument; The section between the small towns of Escalante and Boulder was completed in the 1930s - and is the most spectacular part of the ride on Utah’s Scenic Byway 12

    Because of covid, the American National Parks (and other State Parks) are overwhelmed this summer. Outdoor activities have skyrocketed in popularity. Bicycles, motorcycles, hunting/fishing gear, camping/hiking equipment have all sold really well the past year

    Seing Zion in the winter with a little snow to highlight the rock cracks is a gem of a time to come, even on a bike. The crowds are gone and you have it o yourself. Enjoy. Do a Vegas rent and ride.

    Hi Lea. You have confirmed what a number of people have told me about the spectacular Bryce Canyon and Zion. Many prefer it to the Grand Canyon . And those winding roads are perfect for a motorcycle ride. Thanks for the wonderful video. Cheers, Dan 😃. 🏍🇨🇦

      Congrats to you for taking the time to appreciate the Southwest and all it has to offer. Too many people burn through our 5 national parks and think they have seen Utah. Lea’s pacing in her Oman tour was perfect too. Unfortunately with so large a canvas, she would have needed a year to see the US.

    Yup, just like I told you in last weeks episode, the footage, editing, and music made me long to riding along with you guys. I especially loved the under canvas and the terrace ride early in in the vid. The entire time I was watching that section all that kept coming to my mind was “why is this not being used by the Utah Tourism Bureau to promote bike touring in Utah”. It was exceptional. I have yet to see any footage of Bryce that really does it justice. I look forward to next week. Oh BTW, I am enjoying your book immensely.

    • @Got2Go
      @Got2Go  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much! And happy you like the book! I completely agree: Bryce is impossible to capture, somehow you need to see it yourself to get a feeling for the dimensions (I think it’s actually the same with many of the canyons in Utah - you don’t see on video how majestic and deep they are…)

    "So far Away "!
    Says the man...
    Three people and two motorcycles take highway 9.
    At Canvas, they stop. The great glamping experience, feeling and watching these impressive sights leaves them stunned.
    Two to follow from Alama make contact.
    Again on Scenic byway 12, breathtaking scenery never ceases to amaze you...
    Following the yellow line is a must on this long and torrid path. Mantles of red rocks flanked by shadows and rock castles, immense spaces are lost in the long and great road of dreams, ideas and fantasies. A roar is audible and disappears "Blowing in the wind" and reappears on Thursday's page....The sweet Moon is already dreaming, only the waterfall is wakes up...
    Stay well and enjoy the weekend,

    I have been past this area on the I-15 five or six times, but I only entered inside Zion once, back in 1961. I went up to the entrance once in 2005, but my "Cinderella" hour came too quickly. My wife was back in Las Vegas at the time, attending a nursing convention. I returned again in 2014 but I was suffered from the tyranny of time. I had been to Bryce on the same day. I've never driven eastward from there, never seen Lake Powell or the Antelope Canyon.

We did hike down into the park. It was an amazing trip. We did plan our Utah trip months in advance so we did have accommodations along the way. Great report, Lea. Unfortunately you confirm what I feared: the crowds in the national parks are not pleasant to experience. But it is like that. Keep us posted. ;-)

      Crowds vary by park and time of year. Some of very crowded, others not, so don't assume all are crowded.

    If you liked it there, you'd also enjoy the Nevada/Arizona area with places like: Valley of Fire, Little Finland, Aravada, Lake Mead, Nelson's Landing, Mt Charleston, Dante's View, Furnace Creek, Red Rock, Kingman/Route 66, Antelope canyon, Death Valley... the list goes on. And if you wanted to spend some time off the bike, there are places like Arziona Hot Springs, Havasu City (amazing kayaking) and Havasupai (if you can get in). Plus, the entire state is filthy with dirt roads cutting through some of the most remote regions of the US.

    • @Got2Go
      @Got2Go  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you have to dig a bit deeper into my videos, there is a whole episode about valley of fire, lake mead etc 😅

    So glad you enjoyed this part of your trip! (And sorry you didn’t get to hike Zions ).
    I live up in Salt Lake City, but I drive down to southern Utah at least twice a year because it’s just so amazing. Highway 12 is a must for anyone interested in southern Utah. And he’s, I don’t think your camera really caught how dramatically and dangerously the road drops off of, on both sides, outside of Boulder. It takes my breathe away!
    I can’t wait to see your next video if it’s your favorite day!!
    Cheers!

    • @Got2Go
      @Got2Go  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that was definitely the most beautiful part of the ride. It’s just stunning how deep these canyons are. I think not possible to catch it on camera (maybe with a drone but was not allowed to fly it there…)

    Now I can relate to the super busy entrances to the park. Yesterday, I rode the Pikes Peak Tollway. It took 1.5 hours of uphill stop and go. My hands got sore from working the clutch and throttle. Definitely worth it though. Your video is amazing! Thanks Lea!

    • @Got2Go
      @Got2Go  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yes that’s terrible! I have been to pikes peak on my world trip and had the same experience. But it IS worth the view.
