Hi John. Thanks for sharing your learning. 5 axis is definitely the next level. Because of your passion for machining and teaching, you got me (I am a pastry chef by trade) to machine my own custom made cookie cutters. Keep up your awesome work. With greetings from South Africa

Sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a way to get back into an Instagram account??
I somehow lost the account password. I would love any assistance you can offer me.

@Sam Dustin i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and I'm in the hacking process atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.

An important note enabling beta mode: check your radio buttons down beside the text commands box. Mine defaulted to Py and wouldn't accept the command. Toggle it to Txt.

Really liked seeing the difference the coolant made.

    Finally a smooth 5x toolpath :D (mach4)
Keep going, so we get more (hidden) working tool paths :) thx

Just run a tilt angle for something like that, you don’t need a lag angle. The lag angle is what’s causing all those green feed lines around the edge.

It's really tedious to get flow toolpaths to work, as most cad files don't generate the direction or flow properly. Or maybe the flow direction gets lost when importing? I got it to work once, and it worked well, but it required manipulating every single surface many times. The bottom line was that it was too much of a time suck.
I know mastercam has a third party add-on that somehow restitches all of the surfaces to flow in one direction automatically. Fusion must have something similar.

One thing I haven't found out is how you set your tool length offset. For example do you set up your z0 at the top of your stock? Or do you have a tool probe? Then when you go to program where Is your z0 located? Is it related to where your probe is?

Does the free tier of Fusion 360 (for hobbyists and startups) include 5 axis simultaneous machining, taking into account the tier consolidation coming in Oct? They are very unclear about what is
really included; as far as I can tell Generative Design is the only thing that they mention being excluded?

Here's a snippet for you; Rolls Royce "grow" single metal crystals to machine turbine blades out of. This make them incredibly strong and able to take higher RPM's that normally machined blades like this one. They can also run at much hotter temperatures thus making the engine more efficient and are less prone to "creep" failure.

Is it possible within Fusion 360 to have full machine simulation? As in tool holder, spindle & all guarding etc...
I'm new to Fusion and previously worked on Edgecam, which had very good full machine simulation, in which the entire machine was simulated, detected for collisions and 4th axis/trunnions/fixtures moved relative to what plane they were working on.
On Fusion, I can only add a tool holder for collision detection, which is leaving a lot of potential for a smash up, not being able to see your fixturing and machine...
Is Fusion capable, or would you need separate software?

Tilting the tool so the contact point is further away from the center will give you a higher surface speed and massively improve the surface finish.

These add on units are getting cooler by the day. Does the Haas have the functionality already present in the control or was a hardware upgrade needed to run the multi axis?

    • @occamssawzall3486

It’s a board upgrade when you buy it from the factory. You have the option of getting it as a 3 axis, 4axis or 5 axis.
They have to add additional driver boards for each additional axis.

    HI John
I have a similar part on a 4 axis. I want to shift the cutter over so as not to use the bottom but the side. Its easy in 5 axis but can it be done on just 4? Cheers

A real blade would have probably a 0.050 radius on the leading edge and flat trailing edge about 0.030 or thinner. It would also have an integral dovetail so I would be curious if you would do the dovetail first or last with some sort of softjaws

    • @erikkayV

I I recall correctly the blades are cast and then machined to final shape.

The foil is machined first, then a Zink block is cast over it in order to provide something to hold onto while machining the dovetail. It's melted off when complete.

Where do you get your files for your 5th axis trunnion I’ve got the one from haas but it gives me just a stl file and I got one from another site but when I import it it is a bunch of patches and not a solid?

Any idea why there is the retraction move at those 2 edges?

    • @occamssawzall3486
      @occamssawzall3486 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Sicktrickintuner because of the 10 degree lag angle on the tool path.
It’s the fanning distance the tool has to move past in order to reorient to 10 degrees For the pass back in the other direction.
