- FIRST DRIVE: The GV80 Coupe is all new from Genesis for 2025. On the outside you will discover the unique Coupe shape, 22in wheels, and black chrome accents. On the inside you will be greeted by a full leather interior, 27in of screen size and orange seatbelts. My 2021 AMG 63 is being lemon lawed. Went to the dealership to look at this new Coupe and it's almost identical to the Mercedes. The interior and the stitching and the headliner matches identical to the German vehicle . I will be getting one

No wireless CarPlay (not at launch) , only one massage seat for driver only , no skyline moonroof …and for the price of a BMW, Benz or Audi is a tough pill 💊 to swallow
Option any of those to have what this has, you'll pay $10-20k more. Plus, those don't have ventilated rear seats or a digital rear view mirror.
hyundai / kia gives buyers a bunch of quirks and features so they can buy it.
they've come a LONG way since their start.. but any of the brands mentioned above?..imo.. no.. but they close..should lose those turn signals/markers on the side..thats my only real zonk..
Yeah, they clipped out a couple of things for the U.S. market. That is just pure cost savings. But this GV80 coupe still is competitive on all fronts besides fuel economy. The Europeans are faster too. Carplay is supposed to be "future over air" update.
@@jeffs6090 X3M Comp I just bought is indeed missing ventilated rear seats and has a regular rear view mirror but has over 500hp and will shame this in the handling dept. I guess if you want a mirror and a cool butt in the rear, get this. Oh and it was cheaper than this after negotiation.

My pushrod V6 gets 31 mpgs on the highway, so I was surprised this engine only gets about 22.

I actually like how Genesis is marketing the GV80 Coupe as the legitimately sportier version of the regular GV80 SUV. The regular GV80 is meant to be more luxurious/smoother due to all the shiny trim pieces whereas the GV80 Coupe can distinguish itself as a different vehicle because it's actually made with some performance in mind since you can get it with the electric supercharger for a total of 409 horsepower, unlike the regular GV80 where it's not an option. There are also other performance features such as a Sport+ drive mode, sportier suspension, and better brakes, not to mention there's the GV80 Magma Coupe that's on the horizon which will hopefully have more performance potential.
The X6 and GLE Coupe only exist because they visually look sportier than their non-coupe counterparts, the X5 and GLE SUV, but other than looking different, they're the exact same vehicles. There's nothing else that distinguishes the X6 and GLE Coupe that makes it more performance-oriented than the X5 and normal GLE.

The exhaust sounds so anemic. No grunt or rumble to it.
For a car that has over 400Hp , the 0-60 time is still only close to 5secs. The culprit is really the weight of the vehicle.
When you described the drive system, you mentioned it’s an AWD system , and then you said its rear-wheel drive based… I assume you meant its rear wheel drive biased.
For a price of USD90K, I think it would a hard sell for me, I would rather put in the extra 5-10K and the German counterpart.
Honestly, the German competitors at that price point 0-60 are sub 3.5. Genesis did a good job but not good enough for that price point.

About $10K more and you're in a 2025 X5 M60i, which in my humble opinion, is twice the vehicle! ;) Awesome review, per usual!
According to the Alex on Autos channel, this vehicle, although starting prices are higher than the BMW and Mercedes variants, this has way more content, and when the others are so equipped will cost much more. Also, he said that most buyers in this segment will be lease buyers and this GV80 Coupe will lease for less than the other offerings, which should make this a compelling option to consider. If this $87K version can be leased for ..say $5K down and $600/mo .. I will be getting one very soon!
@@Stew5166 with BMW you just need your phone, no fob. Walk up to the car it unlocks when you get close. Jump in and start it up. Also hands free lane keep. Best thing ever on long trips. If Genesis had those two things and 200 more HP I’d be sold!

90k for a Genesis, I just can’t get there esp since there are really no Genesis service depts - 90k to go to a Hyundai dealer for service? I’d look at a one year old X5 M50i for that price.
Don't know where you stay, but all the Genesis dealers have been consolidated into area "GENESIS"ONLY, specific dealerships here in Arkansas. All the old Hyundai dealers are no longer allowed to sell Genesis. I have a G80 sedan, and went to the new dealership for maintenance and the attention and service of the personnel was most impressive along with the most premium accommodations. 💯
@@Stew5166not in Massachusetts. Still decrepit Hyundai dealers and very few who service Genesis. They are way behind on this issue and it’s hurting them.
Thoughtfully designed. Joe, I know Minnesota didn't build those roads for you to have fun on. So different from the German cars but definitely in the ball game.

I just got sold on a 2024 sport prestige g80 for a killer deal, almost identical features (sans usb-c ports 😔) but im over the moon trading up from a 2021 sonata n-line. Hyundai/genesis is killing it with their platforms, a tech-lover's dream car!

I swear this car is perfect in every way. And yes, its even better then BMW or Mercedes. The engine choice match's the car, beautiful exterior and interior design, isn't missing any features.

I suppose perfect means different things to different folks. I thought the concept was perfect. I was ready to throw fists full of money at that thing when I saw it. The production model is nice but it lost its sporty feel IMO. Subtle changes like going with less sporty wheels and all that extra chrome may not have meant much to the company execs but they make a difference in the character of the car. I also don’t care for all that chrome, even if it is “dark chrome”….its not dark enough in my view. The interior is lights out though. Only thing I would have done different there was integrate the infotainment screen better. I hate this trend to just drop a big slab of screen on the dash and say good enough. They did a lot really well, but to me it lost its “it factor” and aggressive sporty feel somewhere between concept and production. Just another luxury SUV with a sloped roof now. But that’s cool if it’s perfect for you…different strokes for different folks right!
I see a bunch of GV80 Coupe reviews dropped over the past two days. But Joe was the first and in my opinion the most detailed and factual review. I have one of these on order, same color in and out. But apparently I can get the Bering Blue with the Vanilla and Smoky Green interior instead. It is going to be a hard decision.
May I ask where you found this color/combo?

The only issue I have with this SUV is that I wish the infotainment system was restructured with the screen is not on top of the dashboard. It’s integrated below in the screen was like 12 to 14 inches basically like Lexus other than that great SUV it’s like a budget friendly Bentley Bentayga

It only has soft-closing doors. If you want the feature that you are mentioning, you will need to opt for the Genesis G90.

I have this gut feeling that genesis is saving up big for the magma release of these vehicles …. ( where the carbon fiber , exhaust note and possibly power … will be given some steroids ) and we will see a true marriage of luxury and performance coming from this brand

Love the car and your reporting. However there is one zonk pertaining to the passenger seat, no massage feature. I have the same problem with my GV70. The ERGO seat is offered in other markets, but not in the US yet. I talked to Genesis in California and they said it was offered, WRONG. Enjoy your work, PJS

I always thought the GV80 has a funny Mr Peanut, Monopoly Man, Richie Rich, almost cartoon character sense of "wealth" to it - dare I say a touch Canyonero - and the Coupe takes it to another level. Slightly awkward proportions, oddly tall and unwieldy looking - but charming nonetheless. I like it!

Genesis needs hybrid power trains, or at the very least a mild hybrid. Only the top end G90 has one.

I mean it’s a good looking vehicle and considering how wacky some of the styling from BMW has been this could be a good option.
That said I just don’t think you can plunge into the market with these prices. I don’t think we’ve ever seen any Asian Car Marker with such an extensive line up with so many expensive vehicles. Genesis may one day compete on the level of the Germans but it seems it would have been wiser to start as a value option to the Germans rather than putting pricing at or exceeding the Germans.
