Bagpipes rock. I had the privilege of seeing Nightwish a while back. For those who don't know them, they're an epic symphonic metal band. Recently they got a new member whose sole job is to handle all the folk instruments. He'd play bagpipes, wooden flutes, mandolins, you name it. It was so awesome hearing his stuff mixed in with the awesome orchestral tracks and brutal guitar work.
Agreed! I think the original purpose of the pipes was to put fear in the enemy. Braveheart. Check out "Maka" videos if you'd like to see some others you'd want having your back !
Bagpipes are unpopular among instrumentalists because they're so darn _demanding_ to play. They've been described as the instrumental equivalent of a professional marching band. The fitness required to play them is insane.
There actually are quite a few. I go to dunedin high school in dunedin florida, and I play the pipes in our marching band, and we also have a grade 4 competition pipe band, we compete around florida 3 or 4 times yearly. There are Greek dual pipes (spacing on the name), the hurdy gurdy, and any woodwind player who is familiar with overtones and harmonics or singing while playing. Sax or clarinet is the most likely. Brass is arguable, but you'd likely never hear it over the horn. Add double reeds playing their reeds, dual ocarinas, dual recorders, dual trumpets. But yes, the bagpipes are by far the most famous wind instrument with a drone.
666 has nothing to do with the devil. Its meaning goes way back. Bible humpers only believe it is evil because of that stupid movie The Omen. Hollywood is to blame.
Actually, Christians were misunderstanding the significance of 666 long before The Omen came out. (Confession: I've never seen that particular movie.) The number appears in the book of Revelation, and is the number of The Beast, which has uniformly been considered to be evil. Revelation was written around AD 100, centuries before Hollywood.
