In America we've finally achieved 2 hour city.

READ THEIR 15 min city Rules first!!
They implied that "all you need is 15 minutes away, as if they know what you need,"
if you read between the lines. This sentence can be changed to with. If it's not 15
minutes, you no longer need it because WE decided that you will only be able to
access a certain number of alternatives and nothing else. Don't forget that all
of your rights will be subject to limitations. The term "15 min." denotes a maximum
time limit of 15 minutes during which you must remain inside the doors. You would
only be permitted to drive your automobile 25 times a year and would require a
permission if you wanted to travel beyond the city.

This is so dumb. The 15 minute city and similiar ideas have been around in urbanist and urban design circles for decades.

I live near one of the areas that they used for the experiment. The modules in my location never really got put to use, except for the occasional vandalism. The bike and scooter stands was rarely used because of the extremely high gap between the pavement and the module floor. And maybe it was only my area, but plants and flowers got torn out of the crates by kids or drunks and it just looked trashed after a couple of months. I seldom saw anyone using the benches (probably because it wasn't an interesting area to hang out in).
Although it slowed down a whole block and the sounds levels decreased a lot, since they had to close down a road. I would love to see what kind of improvements they're working on for future implementation.

If you liked this video without reading their rules you were lied to and mislead with clear mis-information, how so did they explain the rules, punishments, fines, limits to how far you can walk and bike, curfew, limit to car travel 100 times 1 year, which will be reduced to 25 times 1 year and you have to get a permit from the council, permits are also limted!

  • @kajmobile

I'm confused. The video begins with the revolutionary idea that cities will be transformed so that everything you need is just 15 minutes away. Then Sweden gets even more radical by focusing on what it can deliver within 1 minute from your home. Amazing! They accomplish this interesting feat by turning streets into "critical connecting spaces for community."
Wow!! Did they invent a portal that pipes in experiences from around the city? Is it a pop-up retail/work/play system that rotates throughout the city?? What could this be???
No, it's a wooden bench and bike rack.

So I am in the financial district having a cup of coffee with a bunch of people, and one guy says "omg they are putting a new bike lane on some streets, I pay taxes they put bike lanes for the hippies." I would love a more integrated street but we will need to address the underlying problems before we can make this a reality imo.

This model doesn't apply to lots of climate and urban forms. As a Peruvian who lives in a city where I can put flip-flops and be at a pharmacy or a grocery store in less than 2 minutes: this seems an exciting.

I think you missed the point of the video. It didn’t claim to make every service of a city 1-minute away. The model aims to improve street design to make area for communities to connect with one another on their doorstep. However, I do think the name is a bit silly and misleading to be honest.

There are hundreds of small city « centers » throughout the country that are well-connected by public transit (all on the same pay-as-you-go card), that you can usually get daily needs within walking distance, or at least a bike ride. The stores have also adapted, with world scale distributers like Albert Heijn providing >800 smaller neighborhood supermarkets throughout this small country with prices similar to their larger super-centers. A car is not needed.
