What's your favorite Panasonic Lumix S1H feature you want to see in future full-frame mirrorless cameras? (OLPF, Open Gate 3:2, Anamorphic Support, Timecode, Waveforms, Shutter Angle, Fan/No Overheating, Other).
This camera has been glued to my right hand since 2020. I get giddy seeing other people shoot on this thing, it’s such a hidden gem. Non-LUMIX shooters are definitely missing out. Everything in my demo reel has been shot on this camera if anyone’s interested in some sample shots!
I agree. I've had one since launch and still use it regularly. The AF is actually not bad for doc stuff, despite the criticism it received. I won't sell it when I get the new model as I couldn't let it go for sub $1000 as a part-ex; it's worth far more than that. I'll just keep it as a B/C cam or for extra coverage. I also need the timecode and use that with multiple tentacle sync recorders. It's an incredible bargain if you can get a good one for $1000-$1500.
I like the s1h too - but how is the AF usable for doc stuff? In my experience that’s really not the case, so I’d be curious to hear some best practices regarding AF
Totally agree. I've had a range of Panasonic cameras over the years starting with the GH3. I even had an EVA1 for a while but couldn't get on with it. I currently have an S1 with the V Log Firmware upgrade, a S5II and a S5IIX. By far the best image quality is the S1. For documentary style interviews it is my camera of choice. Rolling shutter and slow auto focus aren't a concern when using manual lenses in static situations. The S5II and SIIX are great for quick auto focus 'run and gun' situations but for me the S1 is still the best bang for buck camera out there.
TRUE. There are so many features to lit, but being the first mirrorless camera to have dual native ISO (by a few years, I think) is also pretty amazing.
I currently have an EVA1 and an S5, but I'm considering swapping the S5 for an S1H. The S5 is such a feature rich camera for beginner filmmakers and I can image the S1H will be even better! When it comes to rolling shutter, fast whip pans and stuff like that, I'll crop my S5 to Super35, and it doubles the readout speed. The thing is, for a shot that requires that kind of movement, nobody is gonna notice a slight change in the depth of field. The S1H does the same thing!
Yep - that's always been my way to get past the not-so-great rolling shutter. Pop it into Super35 mode. I loved the EVA-1. Panasonic has so many great cameras that need updates...
Great video, good to hear professional address this has been my go to hybrid camera since it was released. If there's one thing that should speak for this camera is the fact that 6 years later black magic is using this sensor in its newest camera that all the TH-camrs are raving about the Pxysis... And in my humble opinion, v-log is one of the best log picture profiles to work with. It's right up there with Arri log-c for me . Definitely a whole lot more malleable than s-log or canon Log.
My S1 has been a workhorse of mine for years and I am so happy to see someone acknowledge that these "older" cameras still do the job. It might be time to finally get the S1H and call it a day. I held the S5ii at Best Buy the other day and I know it's an incredible camera and I definitely want one, but it is very small and plastic-y. Thanks for saying what the companies don't want us to know (or realize on our own!).

I think the S1H II will pretty much be a full-frame GH7. Though, not sure that's enough still. Needs 1-2 other killer features (Internal NDs) for Lumix to make any headway in the mirrorless race.
@ As far as I’m aware one of the main functions of OLPF is to mitigate aliasing. If the R5c or r5 did not have one there would be significant aliasing considering the 45mp sensor. Don’t know where you get your info but I don’t think it’s correct.

If the upcoming S1H Mark II were to implement the Arri-Log C3 profile (like in the GH7, even if it's paid), it would be game over for everyone. That said, personally, I'm eagerly waiting for the release of the S1H Mark II just to grab the first version at a much lower price.😅
Just a small clarification. In fact, the GH5 had already introduced Open Gate back in 2017.
I think the S1H II will pretty much be a full-frame GH7. Though, not sure that's enough still. Needs 1-2 other killer features (Internal NDs) for Lumix to make any headway in the mirrorless race.
Totally agree. We'll see, we'll have some answers soon
Many cameras have olpf filter
He said non cinema mirrorless cameras
@ r52 & R5c have olpf & pretty sure some mirrorless Nikons do also
They do not. R5c does not. Nikon mirrorless cameras do not. Only the Panasonic GH5s has an standard OLPF. No full frame camera has it.
@ As far as I’m aware one of the main functions of OLPF is to mitigate aliasing. If the R5c or r5 did not have one there would be significant aliasing considering the 45mp sensor. Don’t know where you get your info but I don’t think it’s correct.
