They are choral perfection and what a lovely piece. This made me think of something you might also enjoy. It’s Bobby McFerrin directing a spontaneous choir/audience in Gounod’s Ave Maria as he sings the Bach prelude ( which inspired it)right over it. It’s gorgeous. Looks like he was leading a festival crowd in Europe. I’ve watched it 100 times. Knowing you- you’ve probably already seen it! ❤
Wonderful reaction, Jeff. I've been blessed to hear Voces8 do this live. Stunning group. The first time I heard the Biebl "Ave Maria" was at my brother's wedding. They had a 30 voice men's chorus that left everyone breathless. Such a fantastic piece.
Franz Biebel was a twentieth century composer and musician from Germany. He was drafted into the German army, captured by the US forces, and spent time in a US prisoner of war camp in Michigan. When he returned to Germany he returned to his first love, music. In 1959, (!), a friend asked him to compose a piece for the local volunteer fire department chorus. This piece is the result. It was only locally known until the Cornell University Glee Club was given a copy of the score by Biebel in 1970. Biebl was working as the music director for a radio station. The Cornell Glee Club added it to their repertoire upon their return. The men's chorus, Chanticleer added it to their repertoire. The rest is history. Originally scored for men's double chorus, it is now performed by a wide range of groups, including brass bands!
Voces8 is such an amazing group! You should check out their arrangement of Carrickfergus with Sibeal. Although it's soooo hard to choose, it is probably my favorite song they sing ❤
Hey Jeff. Wow, that was impressive. Not much else to say, or can say. Just great.👍 As far as the other Ave Maria, have you ever heard Floor and Marko sing it?
Hey Jeff!! Thank you for introducing me to this group. Never heard of them before. Let me return the favor and present another "Ave Maria" sung by a young girl. I couldn't find a tab or anything where I could post for you to react too so I'll give you the link here hoping you will view it. th-cam.com/video/c6X88a0ssms/w-d-xo.html
Nice choice! They are so great as an ensemble, and that Ave Maria is so spectacular. They did the abridged version, there are two more solo/unison chants in the full version, each followed by the ave maria section. I think there are some small differences in the ave marias, maybe. And then the Amen at the end, of course. It's originally for 8 male voices. Voces 8 does another Ave Maria from Sergei Rachmaninoff, titled Bogoroditse Devo, from his All-Night Vigil. Never fails to bring a shiver to my spine and a tear to my eye. th-cam.com/video/QF_o56tobps/w-d-xo.html
Yes, astounding, but I must express my dismay for the split screen and reactions, although certainly heartfelt, no doubt. Perhaps someone hearing this music for the first time would feel confused/isolated with your reactions robbing them the opportunity to hear/think for themselves or perhaps feel inferior if they did not know what a "suspension" was. Sorry, but his is what isolates not draws those who may stumble upon this gorgeous music for the first time, IMHO.
@@kathleenmcdonald2389 this is the exact reason why I put the link to the original version in the description. In subsequent videos I put up text informing people if they want to see just the performance they can click on the link. This is a reaction video where people come here specifically to see my reaction so it doesn’t make sense to leave myself out of the video when they can just watch the original on their own.
What gets me is the way that Andrea's (1st Soprano) voice just soars above the rest - and she makes it look so effortless...
Yes!
the human voice, the first instrument! So beautifull. More please.

Sooo haunting and solemnly beautiful. Perfect acoustics for this sacred piece.

Great info Richard thank you!
Loved your reaction -- I was crying right along with you. Voces 8 has been my favorite vocal group for years, and you can hear why!
Thanks, Jeff. Eight voices singing as one. Precision feel, onsets, and pitch. Very impressive.
The thing about Voces 8 is that, whatever they do. Is perfect.
The taller woman has the most beautiful, clear, pure voice I’ve ever heard in my life.
amazing! my favorite Ave Maria indeed
YESSSS!!! VOCES8 🤩
