- In today's Procreate tutorial video I will show you how I use my iPad and Procreate to illustrate an adorable Yorkshire puppy. This is a super easy digital pet drawing tutorial, so all you need is a reference photo and a little tracing ability! And even beginners will be able to draw a cute cartoon portrait of their dog, cat (or any pet) in Procreate.

Great tutorial! Especially I like that you separate the colors to 3 steps : highligh, basecolor and shodow part and It's so easy to understand to color any object!

Yorkies are the superior species. I have a yorkie and she is nothing but absolutely amazing and has brought so much comfort and happiness to my family. I truly believe she is an angel that god sent to us. We adopted her when she was 4 and now she’s 13

Great tutorial Apart from saving as jpeg. You lose so much detail, it’s a lossless file. You should always save it as either a PDF or PNG to preserve the quality.

Weird cos I've always thought jpeg is a lossy file format and png and tiff etc are lossless files

So, I have a question because I really struggled with this and finding the colors in all.. how do I do this cause it is very difficult with a flat fur and it’s not super fluffy.

I actually don't think you can export SVGs from Procreate.. But I could definitely show how to create an SVG in design programs like Adobe Fresco and Adobe Illustrator
Hi! Great video thanks! Just wondering if I were create images on procreate and save as jpeg, what would the pixel quality be like if I wanted to sell A4 to A2 images as a digital print purchase? Can I enlarge the image on illustrator or photoshop and keep the same quality or is there a special way to enlarge the canvas on procreate? Thanks!

Also, too draw longer hair I would recommend using longer brush strokes. I hope that helps.

Yeah! I used the script brush for this entire portrait. I just scaled the brush really small so I could draw in the details of the fur.
How are you using the paint bucket tool and not needing to completely complete the shape.
Hi Tyra! Question when you draw the fur around the nose. You don’t close the lines (they are closed against the nose). I watched your other video on colour fill but it says to close the lines. Thanks for any help! I have watched this (and many of your videos) 100x

Procreate actually has a few different brushes for hair! Just go to the "Touchups" brush group and you'll find a few different options for human hair!

Thank you for this tutorial. I have one question. If I want to do this to out on a poster how do I prevent the pixels? I mean you can se all the little squares if you look closely. How do I make i more neat?
If you want to create vector-based art (meaning you can scale the artwork infinitely without losing quality) then I would recommend Adobe Fresco. It's still an iPad drawing app. But it allows you to create vector art.
You can set the DPI (dots per inch) up from 150 (fine for web) to 300 (high-resolution print). That will up the quality of your work. The option can be found when you make a new canvas.

I would recommend using a smaller brush size to draw in the details (anywhere from 1-6 percent). But just play around and see what brush size feels comfortable for you. I also used the default "script" brush (you can find it in the "calligraphy" brush group).

Hi! I used the script brush, which is in the calligraphy brush group. I used this brush at a small size to draw in all the details... You might also like the "syrup" brush, which can be found in the inking brush group. I hope this helps!

How are you dragging and dropping the color without closing the outline shape? When I drag and drop a color it's covering the entire canvas. The only way I can get it to drag and drop is if I outline an area completely and drop it inside the outline. It looks like you're just outlining part of it and then dropping the color in where you want it and it actually works but I can't figure out how you're doing it?

Hello! I have a question; how do you keep the reference photo at 100% opacity (for color picking) near the reference photo at the lower opacity for tracing? I hope that makes sense; I was struggling with the wording of this question
Go to canvas, turn on "reference", and then import the image that you want to use as the reference image.
