There are a very few ultimata that are well-meaning and trying to help. "Give up the drugs or I walk." "I can't stand who you're becoming in this toxic relationship, and I won't let you take me down with you. If you don't leave that POS, I'm out." Those can be valid. They're establishing a boundary and asking you to pull back off it. A PlayStation? If you want to control how I spend my time, get gone.

I've seen things like that. "It's me or the video game/tabletop game/hobby". It's always the woman concerned that a man is spending more time on that, than he is with her.
So the response is always "All right, what would you like to do together?" If she has no answer, then your response should be "I'm going to go and enjoy my hobby- when you have an idea, I'll gladly put it down and we can do something fun together."
Do not ever bend the knee to a woman whose demand basically amounts to "amuse me". If she doesn't have any idea what to do with that time she's not getting, then don't waste your time trying to come up with something. Make *her* contribute to the relationship. You are not her dancing monkey.

The thing is, it wasn’t the PlayStation, it was the implication. She was basically saying “either you give your hobbies or I’m leaving”. If he is playing too much, don’t demand he just get rid of it, communicate that you want him to spend less time in it. It was basically letting him know that she was ready to end their 10 year relationship over something so trivial

I have no problem posting my greatest L.
I met a girl at the library in ninth grade, because I was reading instead of eating lunch, and she giggle-snorted at a joke I muttered to myself about something in the book.
We started talking, then we started hanging out fairly regularly, either in the library to read together, in the cafeteria with her other friends, or just in the hallway between classes (we only shared one class, and it was math, and our teacher hated classroom chatter).
Our friendship got to the point where I was invited to a slumber party, and I even got along with her parents. So, near the end of the year, I asked her out to the end of the year dance. She... thought I was gay. Me, being awkward since this was my first crush and all, decided to backpedal a bit, and say that I'd rather keep her friendship than force my feelings on her if she didn't return them.
The Monday after that, a large chunk of the school we're all convinced I'd "pretended to be gay" in order to "force myself on her _and_ her friends", and it was because of her _totally heroic_ girl friends for _"being too smart and clever"_ that I was "found out."
Completely ignoring the fact that I'd slept at her house on three separate occasions, and had done nothing to any of them. Especially since her dad most definitely knew I was straight, and that I nearly had a panic attack the first time I was over due to being overwhelmed.
Yeah, turns out while we both shared a sense of dark humor, I kept mine focused on fictional characters, while she liked seeing real people get socially eviscerated. I just couldn't see the signs.

The line about men being kept in captivity isn't to say they're wild animals-it's to point out that despite being people, men are treated like household pets, caged and given treats for performing the desired tricks.
For the last three generations, men in the industrialised world have been told by their employers, their schools, their governments, and now even the women in their lives, that they are replaceable, they serve no purpose, and their lives are superfluous-and if they aren't allowed to see _any_ contradictory evidence, they _will_ internalise that message. Women get the luxury of being able to define themselves by who they are; men have to define themselves by what they can do-and in the modern world, that's basically nothing.

"For the last three generations, men in the industrialised world have been told by their employers, their schools, their governments, and now even the women in their lives, that they are replaceable, they serve no purpose, and their lives are superfluous"
Realistically it's only been this generation. The "Disposable Male" has long been a philosophy that we (I'm GenX) were taught. But we were "disposable" because we were willing to make the hard sacrifices. We did the risky jobs, we put ourselves between the women and children in times of danger, etc etc. Ever since the rise of social media, that message has changed. Women became more narcissistic and men have been told they're no longer needed. Meanwhile we still keep the country running, the water flowing, and the good producing like always.
As far as employers go, we always saw them as replaceable which is why we could go to other jobs freely. Lose a job? Go find another. Today I get to watch GenZ break down on Tiktok because they're being laid off and can't deal with it.
Frankly, GenZ and late term Millennials have few if any coping skills which is why it's so cringe to watch them melt down over what we would have considered trivial matters. Anxiety means you were just worried but now its treated like a mental issue and people go into tirades about mental health and self care. Like wtf?

@@randallsanchez3161 every day, I hear every member of your generation I'm forced to interact with bitching about how _"young people have no company loyalty!"_
You had jobs you could start right out of school and advance up to the head of your department in thirty years-that doesn't exist now because the head of the department is reserved for the regional manager's son-in-law. Every entry-level job has no room for internal advancement.
The fact that domestic production just doesn't exist any more hasn't helped that in the slightest either. You can thank "building back better" for torpedoing that entire sector.
As for the ingenious decision to watch TikTok, that sounds like a 'you' problem as well.

I'm old enough to remember when men and women agreed that it was gross for men to sleep around that much., and that it was a bad sign for the chances of a relationship with him to work out. Fathers would run those sorts of guys off when their daughters tried to bring them home, back in the days when children still had fathers, and the mothers would back them up on it. Sleeping around that much might have gotten a guy a few high-fives at a frat party or something back in the day, and it would have certainly been common rock-star or sheik fantasy material, but it generally wasn't considered a positive trait by most men or women for guys to sleep around with nearly a hundred women or more.
I don't get the impression that has changed very much - seems like the only thing considered more disgusting than a guy who sleeps around is a guy who doesn't have sex at all today - but for women, among women, sleeping around that much went from being negative to somewhere between the "new normal" and "stunning and brave", and it's forbidden to criticize it in women, but not in men.
I kind of miss the old days! They weren't perfect, but they made a hell of a lot more sense.....

Just to respond to the “men not being emotional” thing, it’s a survival mechanism. There are two reasons why this has always been pushed for men.
in the heat of a bad situation, such as being in a crisis or in a battle, you don’t have the time or energy to spare to act emotionally, you have to compartmentalize or you or your comrades will die.
The other is that emotions show weakness, and weakness in men will always be exploited by hostile parties, be it male or female.

    • @smileyhappyface5864

    • @joshuawillingham6363
      @joshuawillingham6363 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +64

@chriswhinery925 Depends on the woman really. There are psychos that will give you crap for crying at your father's death, and then there's women that are perfectly fine with occasional private moments of weakness as long as you're able to hold it together when it matters.
Depends on the woman, but many women rely on the survival mechanism of showing off their pain (including their Ls) with the expectation that someone will come save them because that's traditionally been their best recourse in dangerous situations. Gets the attention of protective men. Men who never really grew up because they've been infantalized and mommied too much occasionally do the same, but it doesn't trigger the same instincts from a grown man than it does from a woman or child.
We can pretend these behaviors are the result of social pressure all we want, but almost any emotional reaction can be tied back to an instinct, a behavior built into genetics that's really difficult to change. That shit carries over from when we were living in caves for thousands of years ago and isn't so easy to overcome.

    • @chriswhinery925
      @chriswhinery925 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

@@joshuawillingham6363 Sounds like we're on the same page completely. I basically agree with everything you just said. Each person is different and has different thresholds but the directional point I was making is just that being emotionally vulnerable with a woman in a reasonable, restrained way is seen by many of them as good because it shows you trust them, being a weepy mess for very little reason is seen by most of them as weakness. As with most things in interpersonal relationships it's a balancing act and you have to find the partner who's balance matches yours. If you're a super stoic dude who just never cries even at funerals, then the girl who would give a guy crap for crying at a funeral might just be a good fit. If you're a guy who's so emotional you openly weep when Bambi's mom gets shot, maybe consider testosterone replacement therapy. But you're right, all of it is instincts. The parts of your brain that in the back of your skull that evolved millions or even hundreds of millions of years ago are the parts that are really in charge of people's behavior, the newer frontal parts of the brain mostly just invent post hoc rationalizations for decisions that were already made subconsciously, that's how the human brain works.

13:09 That's not insecurity, that's just refusing to deal with disrespect. You can LIKE whatever you want. You can have a type. SHARING that information (especially publicly) when the description CLEARLY excludes the person you're CURRENTLY in a relationship with, makes it sound like you're:
    - not acknowledging the relationship,
    - you're pitying/shaming the person you're in the relationship with for NOT meeting those standards, OR
    - you're looking to replace the person you're in the relationship with for someone who DOES fit this criteria.
Don't believe me ladies? Picture this: you're out to dinner with your bf/husband and a group of mutual friends, and the question's asked to HIM, and his response is, "Typically...? I'm attracted to women who are in shape."
Now which female here is gonna lie and say she wouldn't be offended by that?
That's what I thought. And even when it's a couple of fairly based females reacting here; "normal women," and neither of them even stopped for a second to see that from the other person's POV. There's a woman (Amanitalks was her name IIRC) who made a video a couple weeks ago about her bf who by her own words "exceeded her expectations" of what a guy should do in a relationship, where he supported her financially, didn't cheat on her, how much she loved him, etc. but once she was on her feet, she broke up with him anyway. The women in her comments were giving her all this positive affirmation BS about how she deserved to be happy, she was better off without him, blah, blah, blah. So a completely DIFFERENT guy, took that whole story and repeated it WORD FOR WORD, but swapped the genders making it sound like this was HIS story about why HE broke up with HIS gf, and posted it with no context or link to her original story, and it blew TF up. Women calling him disgusting and all this other stuff - even though he was telling the EXACT SAME STORY she did. But hey, let's talk about how much more "emotionally intelligent" and morally superior women are, right?

You can chalk it up to dating preferences but I see it as being disrespectful. No guy is going to talk about his dating preferences online while dating a girl who doesn't show those preferences.

If we get overly emotional, it often leads to disaster (road rage, going into a panic during a crisis, stuff like that). 16:04 shes kind of right about this, if they are a decent guy then chances are good he wants to feel useful and appreciated. I would argue most people want to feel that way. There is no worse feeling then being in a relationship where your partner makes you feel like an anchor and ignores anything good you do for them.. trust me, I've been there done that, it's not a good time.
It doesn't even need to much, a small thank you or acknowledgement of a good deed goes a huge way in any friendship or relationship. I know guys who hold onto memories of that one time they got a compliment 10 years ago like it is the most cherished memory in their life because it happens so rarely.

Sleeping with a lot of people means that any sex that I could offer them wouldn't be special. It's the ultimate dopamine rush and not only is it incredibly diminished by the time I arrive, but that means that whatever I can offer--sexual or not--is not important. It also means that they're very adept at just cutting me off without a second thought, like I'm not special to them.

YES. It's closely akin to the comment from the woman who deemed the babies she conceives with another man to be her husband's responsibility somehow - and these are usually the same women who will not date single fathers, and would never tolerate a man cheating on her. The lack of responsibility is bad enough, but the hypocrisy that comes with it adds insult to the injury....

Mind games definitely huge problem for communication and stable relationships. It's a trust issue too, how can you build trust when you're meant to arbitrarily just know when they're lying to you. That's not on the person who takes your word at face value because they trust you mean what you say.
With the tattoo girl, I think the issue with both men and women like her when they interact with people outside that specific demographic is they make their entire life and personality about this one trait and activity they do. If you replace 'tattoo culture' with anything else, it's not hard to see how being hyperfocused on this one thing can become a turnoff for people who want to connect in other ways.

    • @connyslayer4661
      @connyslayer4661 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Honestly, i applaud for making such a well thought out and smart comment like this pointing that out. Mind games in general are a terrible thing and should be avoided entirely from both sides obviously. Honesty, truth, open mindedness, and being straightforward with what you want with no form of manipulation or lies is a great to have and can be the most important part of a relationship that keep it stable.
Also when it comes to the tattoo girl, i get your point very well. The problem is alot of people like that base their personality and preferences based on one trait instead of expanding and developing your personality with different traits. Being hyper-focused on one thing can definitely be a turn off and i would recommend people to have several interests that define themselves and can help them connect with several men and women out there. I personally love tattoos in general but was never hyper-focused or obsessed with them since i am a man with variety of interests and the more diverse interests you have and the more activities you do, you are more likely to have communication and connections with people of different types. This creates more options for friendships and dating etc.

I heavily disagree with your take at 13:44. If a woman likes an archetype of guy and you don’t fit that description it’s best to find someone who you fit for. The reason isn’t insecurity it’s logic.
If someone else comes into the picture while you’re trying to court this woman and that guy fits her preferences she’s going to gain attraction for him and lose it for you.
Might as well save both parties the hassle because if you don’t align it just won’t work long term.

Rule of thumb: if your partner suggests having an open relationship when they know that you're committed to just them, they're either already cheating on you or planning to do it, and they want your permission to do it more.
It's happened way too many times where the relationship falls apart because the committed partner found someone else who's just as monogamous as they are and they split up, or their partner runs off with the person outside of the relationship - it never ends well if neither partner is polyamorous or into getting cucked when they get together.

40:10 Sorry, boo: that ain't true.
    "Less stress."
    No, _different_ stress.
"You get more money for yourself."
    Maybe in the _short_ term.
"You can also just have kids _later."_
Naw, her window's almost closed at 31. The exact age differs from woman to woman, but having your _first_ kid at 35+ carries _tons_ more risks for both mother _and_ child, namely higher risk of being unable to conceive or *miscarriages.* Plus, trying to find a husband _that_ late in the game, when all the well-established men are looking at women 5-10yrs _younger_ drastically reduces the chances of getting married (best environment for kids). IVF is a thing, sure, but then you're _purposely_ putting a child in a suboptimal environment. Fatherlessness increases the likelihood that the kid will get into crime, have kids early outside of wedlock, and all sorts of social issues (Daddy issues galore!). Gotta crank those kids out in your 20's.
I mean, don't have kids if you don't want to, but...if you _do_ want kids, you have to get started early. Like _90%_ of women end up wanting kids, but by 31, it's almost too late to start. So the chicks who wanted to party it up in their 20's & 30's suddenly get steamrolled by their biological clock at 35 and panic...or become crazy cat lady spinsters, you know: game journalists.

Shoe actually did do two "prequels" about this subject.
One about the epidemic of male loneliness and another asking the question 'are the men okay?'
It get's darker in the last one she did about the rise of AI and its impact on the dating market and the further downward spiral of male mental health.
It's depressing stuff but worth a watch. If nothing else but to get more of an understanding of how dismal life can easily be for men nowadays.
And maybe, if one happens to be one of the women who are part of the problem, it'll serve as a wake up call to maybe not be such a raging a**hole.
Or if you're the other brand of well-meaning a**hole who's answer to everything is "pick yourself up by your bootstraps" or some platitude like "there's someone for everyone".
Neither sentiment having any basis in reality whatsoever beyond serving as a way to deny responsibility or involvement in someone elses plight.

Women are not okay. Dated this girl in my grade who was pretty attractive and had a great personality. About 3 months into the relationship she told me she loved me and even though I thought it was sudden and really early to say that, I said it too. Apparently, she was dared to date me by her friends as some kind of “social experiment”. I wasn’t social and I sat at the front of the class away from everyone so essentially I was the white “black sheep”. Her friends thought it would be funny to see how high they could get my hopes up and what would happen once I got dropped. The girl and her friends decided that they would break up with me in the most embarrassing way possible. I was on stage one day cuz I had won an award and was giving a speech to the school. Out of nowhere, she walked up to the stage, took a microphone from one of the empty stands and announced to the entire school that she was breaking up with me, and accused me of being gay. Now, I have no issue with gay people or anyone else in that community now, but at the time it was a shock. I started crying on stage and her friends had their phones pulled out and recorded the ENTIRE thing. I finished my speech in tears and went back to my seat. The next day the video of me giving my tearful speech was everywhere across the school and now everyone thinks that I’m gay. In a single afternoon, this girl had broken my heart, destroyed any chances of me getting another girlfriend (i go to a christian school and they’re very strict about lbgtq stuff), and given me severe trust and confidence issues. Moral of the story: Always be careful when you’re dating a girl. There are a lot of little things that can trigger them or they can go into a relationship wanting to break your heart. Congrats to anyone who read this far.
