currently rocking the 3xl, and if they dont make the 5 great, i am worried. i dont want to use a different manufacturer's phone, but if google cant get their shit together i will be forced to switch manufacturers. to what? i have no idea. i dont want to go back to the iphone, and i feel like the galaxy is more pricey than necessary these days. one plus i guess?

the Pixel 3 is currently only $499 and the 3a is only $399 might be worth just grabbing those with a trade in of your P2.

@@wastedwalnut9788 The 4XL is really good, the only major issue with the 4 imo is the battery could be better, especially on the baby one. I'm gonna miss the original photos storage, but other than that, it's looking a big upgrade from my 2XL :)

    • @JustXavier

@@RKO6192 I agree. I'm trading in my 2XL for the 4XL. I want the smoother scrolling, better photography, and _much_ better speakers. And if the screen is really as good as they're saying then I think this will be a worthy upgrade. Plus...I've been wanting a better zoom for years now.

I'm a little disappointed with the removal of the wide angle front lens, but, the one single lens is a bit of a halfway point between the two on the 3, just like they did on the 3a. If you want wide, there it is. If you want a more default look, you can zoom in and knowing Google's camera software, there's probably no real discerning downgrade in quality.
I'm not saying it's not a downgrade, but I think its better than just straight up not having a wide angle on the front anymore. There was an attempt to at least keep the feature, and in the selfie example you showed, the change in viewing degrees is really minor.

My reason for switching from iOS to Android is the horrible and outdated UI from Apple. I bought the Pixel 3 for $499 and traded in my iPhone 6 to GoogleFi and got $80. It's the best deal ever. I basically got a flagship phone for half of Apple and Samsung.
I love my Pixel 3 and suggest anyone wanting to switch from an iPhone do the same. I've been an Apple Fanboy and still have the 2008 iPhone as a collectors item. LOL.
Google gives you stock Android, a great quality phone and camera and I'm really happy with the Pixel 3. It's not the best phone, but for the price it's an awesome deal IMHO. The battery life is very good as well.
If you want better photos then invest in a real camera like a Sony a6400 with 24mp, amazing autofocus, and 4k video. And don't forget that photos and video are all about lenses, not the camera. A camera can't compensate for a great lens.

Heavy Pixel 3 camera user here and also had a Pixel 1. Although removing the front-facing ultrawide really sucks, I'm not much into selfies so I only used it on rare occasions on my Pixel 3. There were occasions though that I wish I had a front-facing wide-angle - I sometimes had to flip my phone around and use the wide-angle and took shots blindly. So the 2x zoom was a really weird choice I thought at first but when thinking about it... the number of times that I zoomed-in to compose a shot on an object or subject at a long distance was more often than I initially thought. Since it's Google. I'm sure they have the metrics that let them know how people use certain features on their phones and the number of usages. I'm guessing those metrics have at least a small part in the decision-making process of adding, removing or modifying features on their phones.

I do a lot of "how far can i push this picture" with phones and ive truly enjoyed my Pixel 2 XL but other than the great still camera which i would love, the Pixel 4 itself has turned out pretty underwhelming, i like what the 3 advanced with and was really excited for the 4 but i cant honestly bring myself to buy the 4 XL. Looking forward to your long term review on this!

I've been a Pixel fan since the release of the 1st gen Pixel and upgraded every year but this year I don't bother getting the Pixel 4/XL because of the insanely high price tag vs what the current competition gives you. Besides this the Pixel phones of some inexplicable reason aren't sold in my country which makes it a hassle to get hold of one. This year I went for the OnePlus 7t which I think gives you a lot considering the value you get for a much lower price tag. My guess is that we will see big price drops on the Pixel 4 series similar to last year's series 3 since I don't think Google will manage to sell their phones as well as they hoped.

I did pick up my 4XL in white the other day, so far it's weird to me, I'm used to the fingerprint sensor, but the face unlock is just as fast. The overall experience compared to my 3 XL is much smoother since my 3XL was having some pretty big hardware lag and jank. I would recommend for the base Android experience, but so far my impression is that I just need to get used to something different.

I think the Pixel 4 took a better selfie in that shot. Reasons are, you and the house look larger and there's less visible sky. The HDR, with the immensely white sky was taking all the focus off of you and it clearly helped the programs algorithm a little as your coat was darker, your face didn't get glare from the sky but as a whole, having a smaller picture brought you into better focus and I think 90% of the time, for front camera use, it's going to be more practical to see your main subject better, like it or not. lol

  • @shotbyarian
    @shotbyarian 5 ปีที่แล้ว

they actually removed the standard selfie cam on the pixel 4 - the selfie cam of the pixel 4 is slightly less wide angle than the one on the pixel 3, but sharper and better in image quality, so i don't mind only having that option, as i was using the wide angle one on the pixel 3 most of the time anyways

Why would you need 4K from the front facing camera? The front facing sensors aren't even good enough. By outputting 1080p from the camera, the Pixel 4 is basically just doing the de-noising for you

No ultrawide-angle rear camera, no wide-angle front camera, no fingerprint reader, flawed face unlock, no 4k video recording still. Google kind of flubbed this iteration of the Pixel. They get close to creating the perfect Android experience and somehow manage to drop the ball every year.

  • @lizbabytweet

I have the pixel 3 and 4. Definitely prefer the pictures on the 3, the colors are richer and more beautiful. On the 4, the colors are probably more "real" and appear washed out and the phone screen and pictures have a slightly greenish hue to them. Some people may like this more real tone, but I no longer get the beautiful color pops on my pets pictures, they're just kinda washed out and normal. The portrait shots have even better blur, but again, the colors are too real and washed out, no color pop or contrast like before. Also, I notice more pixelating in the pics, which wasn't noticable on the pixel 3. The face unlocked is actually super fast, I don't even miss the finger scanner. (I bought the pixel 4 for $450 on Amazon, 'used' but it's literally brand new). I paid the same price for the pixel 3 when I first got it.

As much as google dropped the ball this year (battery/removed wide angle selfie/etc) the lack of availability in India isn’t really their fault. The Indian government chooses to restrict what technology, in this case sonar, that is available for public and commercial use. That’s not Googles fault. Canada actually repealed it’s laws to allow this type of technology not too long ago

I am very disappointed with the google pixel 3 phone AND google services. Google dropped the ball multiple times in their customer service and did not compensate for their mistakes in any way besides “I sincerely apologize.”
I decided to not get a warranty from Best Buy where I bought the phone because google offered a 1 yr manufacturing warranty. This was a big mistake.
I bought the google pixel 3 because of the camera. The camera broke, which apparently is a problem for this phone (according to what I found online). First step to try and fix the phone is reformatting.
I needed a google assistant to walk me through the steps to back up my material and reformat the phone. I asked the assistant 3 times if my photo and recordings were backed up (I confirmed this by looking at the transcripts of our conversation). She checked and confirmed that all was backed up. However, all of my recordings were lost. This set me back quite a bit with my work. Google ‘sincerely apologized’ (there wasn’t much else they could do with this one. And this same response was given when I felt there were other alternatives to fix their mistakes).
The camera wasn’t fixed so I had to send my phone in and they would send a new one back to me. This means going without a phone for 2-3 weeks weeks.
Within a month of receiving the “new” phone, the battery dies completely by noon (4-5 working hours). I question if I had received a new phone or a refurbished phone? The phone that I sent in because of a broken camera battery lasted much longer and it was several months old. Also the finger print sensor was significantly less sensitive than the first pixel 3 phone I had (another reason why I think they may have sent me a refurbished phone).
I now had to send the phone in again, go another 2-3 weeks without a phone. I was very disappointed with this product as it was said to be one of the better phones on the market and it wasn’t cheap. I requested a refund instead of another draw out exchange for a ‘new’ phone.
I was told I would hear back from someone within 5 days. It took them 3 weeks to get back to me. And all I received was an email saying please call us. I called 6 more times until we finally arrived to unfavorable and disappointing answer. Each representative that I talked to said they would look into the issue and get back to me. Some promised to call me back within the hour, others the next day, some said in 1-3 days. No one ever got back to me so I had to continue to call and share my process all over again. On the 4th and 5th call, I asked to stay on the line while they looked into it since the previous representatives didn’t get back to me. Each time they assured me they would personally take are of it and promised to get back to me. I am a trusting person and so went along. The google assistants were very nice; however, they all lacked follow through. This process went on for another 2 weeks and hours and hours on the phone with google.
Each time I had told them that I am leaving the country right after christmas and thus am running out of time to send the phone in to get a ‘new’ one.
They finally gave me an answer saying that their policy does not allow exchanges and cannot help me in getting a phone faster than within their 2-3 weeks exchange rate. It took me 6 weeks to get to this answer and I am now out of time because of leaving the country to get a replacement. All of this is clearly documented and recorded and they were not willing to compensate for their multiple mistakes in any way. They would just say. “I sincerely apologize.”
Google does not allow you to leave a review on their site where you can purchase the phone directly. I also do not think this is a good sign.
I do not recommend this phone or anything that will require you to rely upon google services.

Google really should introduce a high end Pixel 4 with wide lenses better video recording and a bigger battery, to tell the truth, nowadays people sign up for a contract for a phone that is gonna stay with them for two years, few dollars more every month isn't a big deal, these compromises are puzzling really.
