    Summary
The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter is considered Japan's oldest narrative literature, believed to have been written during the Heian period. It tells the story of a beautiful woman, Kaguya-hime, discovered inside a bamboo stalk by an old bamboo cutter. The story follows her mysterious birth, her growth into an extraordinary beauty, the numerous suitors who seek her hand in marriage, and finally her return to the moon, from where she originally came.
An old bamboo cutter finds a tiny, radiant girl inside a bamboo stalk one day and raises her as his daughter, naming her Kaguya-hime. She grows into a woman of incomparable beauty, and soon, news of her beauty spreads far and wide, attracting many suitors, including nobles and even the emperor. However, Kaguya-hime is not interested in marriage, and she gives each suitor impossible tasks to win her hand. One by one, they all fail.
In the end, it is revealed that Kaguya-hime is not of this world-she is from the Moon. She has been sent to Earth as punishment for some unknown crime, and her time on Earth is nearing its end. On the night of the full moon, celestial beings come down to take her back to the moon, and despite her attachment to the earthly world and her foster parents, she departs for her celestial home, leaving everyone behind.
    Main Themes
Impermanence and separation: A key theme is the fleeting nature of beauty, life, and love, highlighted by Kaguya-hime’s eventual return to the moon, leaving behind those who loved her. This underscores the idea that all things, no matter how beautiful or cherished, are temporary.
Supernatural elements: The revelation that Kaguya-hime is from the moon adds a mystical and otherworldly dimension to the story. This ties in with ancient Japanese beliefs about the divine and the celestial.
Human desire and failure: The suitors' inability to meet Kaguya-hime’s impossible challenges illustrates the limitations and vanity of human ambition. No matter how wealthy or powerful they are, they cannot attain her, showing that some things in life are beyond human reach.

"First, I decide on a story. Then, I play each piece to match that story. After playing through everything once, I remove what doesn’t fit. Next, I adjust the parts I removed. Finally, I play through the whole thing again. That’s pretty much how I do it. I’m self-taught, so I’m sorry I can’t explain it more technically."😅
