    • @apple-a-day

      Hi there! Thanks so much - glad that it worked for you. You can change the background color in Motion by going to Project Properties under the Edit Menu and changing the Background Color property. Make sure to change the Background from Transparent to Solid, otherwise you won't see the background when in Final Cut Pro. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    Excellent tutorial! I love the result! I've got a doubt. If I have a Motion Project which I've just published, every time I save the Motion project will it publish it again? I ask because, when I hit "Save" after publishing, it takes a long time to save.

    • @apple-a-day
      @apple-a-day  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, I'm glad you liked it! So depending on where the Motion Project file exists it will be 'published' when you save it. So for instance if it was on your desktop, saving it repeatedly would have no affect on the published version. Published templates reside in /Movies/Motion Templates/
      A motion project simply needs to exist in that folder to be published. If the Motion project that you're working on exists in that folder, when you save it, it will republish and will be updated the next time you access it in Final Cut Pro. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching!

    That's a really nice video and explanation! The only thing didn't work - you mentioned to publish X and Y in order to have a chance to edit the position of the image inside the Drop Zone, but it moves the whole placeholder with image, not the inside parameters. I feel like I've tried to Publish all Xs and Ys one after another and test it in FCP, but it just didn't work :( If you have advise on this, I would much appreciate it!

I have question: if I want to add videos here instead of photos and you said it can be tricky with showing it properly, you need to play with "in" parameter.. so I want to show first drop zone and play video with sound in it and then move to second drop zone with other video and with other audio.. so it there any opportunity to control what I want to show and where to start video and also to do audio fades mixing to each other?

    Thanks so much for this tutorial, been trying to find similar template for Final Cut ages and now I can simply make my own. I noticed this can only take landscape photos, is there any way I can have mix for both portrait and landscape? thanks in advance.

    • @apple-a-day
      @apple-a-day  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Glad it was helpful. Yeah, I set it up that way simply because the default drop zone is landscape. If you create a vertical Drop Zone image and bring that image into Motion, under the Image Tab in the Inspector, you can change it to a Drop Zone which should then receive images / video in that vertical aspect ratio. Hope that helps. And thanks for watching!

    Bravo! This was a wonderful tutorial! I successfully made my very first Apple Motion template! Yay! Question: towards the end you mentioned publishing more controls to the drop zones (like pan, zoom, X and Y, etc). I have tried and tried but cannot make this happen correctly in Motion-->FCP. When I do, all of the controls are at the very bottom of the drop zones, past #10, instead of each drop zone having its own controls. Any ideas on how to pull this off in Motion correctly? Do you have another video somewhere that describes publishing controls to a custom-made Motion template? Or do you know of any other resource online? Another TH-cam video? I have searched but to no avail. I even checked Apple's Motion tutorial but nada. Thanks for the free lesson and keep up the good work!

      @apple-a-day  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Ariel, and thanks for the kind words! I'm so glad you enjoyed this tutorial and found it useful. The problem you're having (if I understand correctly) is a bug in Motion. If you create a DropZone the way I described in the tutorial, by clicking on 'Add Object' and selecting 'DropZone', you won't get the 'Pan' and 'Scale' properties which can then be published. To solve the problem you have to change the Source Media for the Drop Zone to some other Image, then change it back to Drop Zone. You'll see that those properties are now available to publish. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    • @apple-a-day
      @apple-a-day  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good question but I'm not sure how possible that would be. Even if you added Checkboxes in a Rig to turn off the visibility of various Drop Zones, that wouldn't affect the camera movement and the timing. I'm not sure how you could adjust that dynamically. If I come up with a solution I'll definitely let you know. Thanks for your question!

    • @apple-a-day
      @apple-a-day  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! Thanks for your question. You should be able to put video into the drop zones without issue. You might have to adjust the in points of the video to get them to play when you want. Sometimes that can be tricky. Good luck!

    This is a great tutorial, but I went ahead and did 20 images. What I noticed though, since the images are spaced evenly front to back, by the time you get to the last few images the camera is far enough back that there's no longer any images seen in the space the camera is travelling. Could you just space the images out by 2500 pxs 1-10 (or 20) and then renumber them to make it even more random looking?

    • @apple-a-day
      @apple-a-day  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, thanks for your question. Sure you can. The spacing is somewhat arbitrary... it depends on the camera angle of view too. If you have lots of photos, spacing them closer together (on the Z-Axis) might work better. It's all about the look you'll ultimately want to achieve. Sorry this answer is so vague. Thanks though, and thanks for watching!

    Sorry, I am a rookie..... is there an explanation somewhere how to do this?

    • @apple-a-day
      @apple-a-day  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there... sorry for taking so long to reply. When you select the Drop Zone, go into the Inspector and then to the Image Tab. Your Source Media should be the first property - click on the Drop Down arrow on the right and select any image which appears in the Drop Down. Then change it back to Drop Zone. That should enable the Scale and Pan properties which can then be published by clicking on the arrow to the right of of Pan and Scale... this will display another menu and from there you can select Publish. Hopefully that helps if you haven't already figured it out. Thanks!

      I know you are not tech support, but I have two questions. I put video in two of the drop zones, but it doesn't play. I thought I should be able to drag the position of an image (in Final Cut) in a drop zone, but I can't. I know I've done it before in other projects. Do I need to publish position in Motion to get it to work?

    • @apple-a-day
      @apple-a-day  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JRossHunter Hi there and thanks for your questions. I had the same issue with another template I had made where the video did not appear to play in the drop zone. I discovered that the video starts to play from the start of the template, not from when the drop zone is on screen. So if you don't see that particular drop zone until 5 seconds into the template, then you'll need 5 seconds of slug at the beginning of the placed video. In other words, you have to assume any placed video starts at the beginning of the template. And as far as repositioning images, you do indeed need to publish the pan and scale parameters - something I neglected to do in the tutorial. I also noticed that those parameters weren't even visible in my Motion project. To force them to be visible, you need to click on the drop down arrow next to the Drop Zone icon and reselect Drop Zone from the menu, that will make the pan and scale properties visible and then you can publish them. Hope this help!

    • @JRossHunter
      @JRossHunter ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@apple-a-day THANKS. Maybe I'll put the video in the drop zone 1. And I'll publish this parameters. Very helpful. Turns out the whole template doesn't work like I thought it would under an opening title. I'll post a link when I get it fixed.
