- Hey Everyone. Little rain caused a need for me and Dudette to got to the NSR. Had a great day with Sis looking for anything that looks cool. Found some neat stuff.

Do you find any arrowheads or other ancient Native American artifacts there in the NSR ? I live in Fouke Arkansas near the southern end of Sulphur river close to where it dumps in to Red river.

Hi Jeff. Some people find a lot of points. In all my travels in the river basin I have found one compete point. Really cool semi lucent golodrina. Within 30 yards I found a 4 in piece of quartz, not native to this area, and what some Native Americans identified as a Star Pendant. There's a couple of videos where I find these. East of there. We went down close to the old park. There is trail that you can use for easy access. Had a lot of weeds but it is there. Thanks for watching!

Thanks David. Construction is expected to be complete by mid to late 2025. It will start filling before that. Even now all the good material is being hung up by two crossover bridges. They are for the construction trucks. Worst part is there is another damn planned east of this one. NSR as we know it will be gone.

Yes it is
I hunt Cretaceous sea stuff (echinoids, ammos, etc)around Austin/Central Texas all the time, but I almost never find bone. It seems like you NSR guys find verts all the time! I wonder why that discrepancy exists
That is mainly what we also hunt for. NSR has the Ozan formation which is where the majority of the bones from marine reptiles and fish come from. Get away from that formation and we haven't found one bone.

I've been so many times I've lost count. The ground is grey and the fossils are black. Easy finds. There is also a red layer that undulates the sides of the chasm. That's the layer the fossils come out of. Don't be down there when rain is in the forecast. Really. Otherwise it's a blast if you know how to find things.
Yes color is everything not just black but the reds, tans and Grey's. Thanks for watching
I haven't been there in 10 years. Last time there were footprints everywhere and I said heck with this and decided to just focus around D-FW and west for fossil treasures. Thankfully the Dallas paleo/rock clubers don't go very far west.
Hey Lance. We haven't been there in awhile. I wouldn't go back but have tonfind one of those small ammos for my collection. Also together verts for then trades for ammos overseas. It is in very sad shape right now.

Upsetting that NE Texas is being ruined by these super lakes so Dallas Ft Worth can keep their grass green.
Pretty much. No way to stop it. After this dam gets done they are making one further east. NSR will be no more.

They are. Problem is the dam is cutting off a big chunk of the area that the prime fossils come from. New park will not have the quality of fossils NSR is known for.
@@northtexasfossildude Little do they think this may hurt the tourism for the area quite a bit. However, I'm anything but shocked given how shortsighted many people can be. What a sad day that will be.

I stopped by there on Sunday and the whole area was solid mud about knee deep.

Yea, that's the temporary park. They have that cross over dam that is causing all that mud. There is a way down away from the mud if you are fairly mobile. If not best to tray another bridge east of there.

Sorry for the late response. This didn't show on my phone. Construction ends in 2026 of the dam. Not sure of the date when they will start filling it. So there is still time! Thanks fore watching.
