@@RommelsAsparagus My dad was a plane captain on A-4s in VA-144. He suffered PTSD due to the stuff he experienced on the flight deck. All the stories you hear about injuries and stuff are very true. Guy next to him was killed by a broken arrestor cable, basically cut in two. Dad was saved by his jets nose gear. His jet was shot down in 1964 in Gulf of Tonkin Incident, the pilot was Everett Alvarez, Jr.
Best wishes from Germany, your videos are beyond any scale of entertainment, pure fun to watch and still getting all the technical details. I acknowledge your respect to the deck personal.
LOL, the Director lifting her right foot WAY up at 1:07 as she's stepping clear of the catapult track. I'm sure that's a pretty engrained safety thing (don't want to loose toes to the shuttle), but it looks funny.
I had the opportunity to get that close. I was a nuke on the Enterprise in the 80s and a good friend of mine was a Green Shirt. He got me geared up (disguised as another Green Shirt) and I shadowed him for a while during flight ops. Amazing as it was, it was the scariest two hours of my life. Oddly enough, the flight deck crew thought us nukes had the most dangerous job. Not even close! Love your videos and your narration is some of the best on TH-cam!
Me too. I was an AE on both A-6s (Forrestal) and P-3s. Getting hit by a prop was scariest, followed by the chance of getting blown over the side at night.
Maybe back in the day when lettered mail was a thing. The Navy has had access to internet for decades now. But no doubt the C2 is the workhorse of any Carrier.⚓️✌🏻🍻🇺🇸
The little bobble as you clear the deck and the wings get a chance to do their job really puts it all in prospective. The cat doesn't care weather the whatever it's chucking can fly !
Rob you and Pail (Growler Jams) are the best, 💯! Thanks for sharing and voicing these AWESOME videos! Brings me back to 1968 to 1975 when NAVY was training you young kids how to take off and land safely and efficiently, as the Nam conflict was under way. As i grew up on Maui with the Lua Makika volcano on Kaho'olawe Island next to us, the navy/army training grounds. With dad's binoculars and my telescope we watched in AWE as these kids went about their training, truly AMAZING to have witnessed this as a child it stayed ingrained a memory of a life time, still as if was yesterday. 🙏 BE SAFE! 🤙 all you young HEROS men and women! and also--- FLY NAVY 👉
Thanks, always fun to watch. And thanks for your service. My son is in the army and is with the 1st Battalion - ABN , 509th Infantry - Geronimo in Louisiana. He just made Sargent, I'm so proud of him.
This was just downright awesome footage. Huge thanks to your buddy's to get this filming position to give us some truly amazing footage. Look forward to the next one Rob Roy.
I REALLY like your Channel.. Also, I have a real affection for the C-2. A great "traditional looking" propeller-driven, straight-winged aircraft. My dad flew a wide variety of such aircraft in the Air Force: C-45, C-46, C-47, KB-29, KB-50, and finished his career with a fair number of hours in the T-39A Sabreliner and the C-141A.
Best Naval Aviator Narrator out there. The clearance from the props must be in inches. I hear those big nuclear aircraft carriers have barber shops, but standing tall where the cameraman was could be considered an alternative. Yeah, she ran like a girl. But before she booked it outta there, she got the job done. Stay safe and thank you all for your service.
Working as final checker in E-2's with VAW-124, I can say that cat 4 was never one I liked launching off of. A quick thumbs up and duck into the catwalk and watch the prop go zooming by your head.
Outstanding Video! "Can't Get Any CLOSER" Is an Understatement! Having been an A/C Mech at NADEP-NI I spent the 80's and 90's wrenching on C-2's and E-2's. Loved working on those Beasts! Was involved in the C2 SLEP program. Imagine how cool it was to tear them down to bare bones and back up, good as new! Keep up the good work!
After a long career living the dream of working on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, I personally feel no need for amusement parks. Final Checker = Best Seat in the House. Fly Navy.
As someone who lives on an airport and gets videos “close” to planes taking off and landing, I can now say I’ve never been close to a plane taking off or landing.
Great video Rob. I love the C-2 and I think that it has never gotten the respect that it deserves. I fly rc planes a bit but would love it if someone came out with a C-2 version. I have put the suggestion into many rc makers, but not one has ever produced a flying model. You see all kinds of makes duplicated many times and some offhand makes, but it amazes me that no one ever made a C-2. Sorry for the rant, keep up the good work. 'MURICA!
Love these videos!!! I was a Photographer's Mate second class (now MC's) on the USS America, from 83 - 88. Many hours on the flight deck, on the COD, and in Helo's!
These close-up shots like this are so freakin' cool, Rob !! I don't think there are any others like this on YT. I don't know where the camera operator was standing but he needed a raise for sure. Lol Merica #FlyNavy
ABE’s get tons of respect in the world- working with extremely high pressured sht constantly in the steam room and on the deck- good on em. And yes, one of the most dangerous jobs for sure.
I always enjoy your vids and admire your professionality (and that of your collegues,,,) but this one was really impressing. To see what those deck guys do and endure... whoa!
I was a Photographers Mate on USS Nimitz late 70’s / early 80’s. Spent a few times shooting where your cameraman was. There was only metal grating at that position so if you looked down, all you could see was water below. Between the planes launching overhead, ocean below and the wind over the bow (30 knots+) there’s no amusement ride that could compare…
Oh, you can get closer than that. All you have to do is join the Navy, go through all kinds of fun training including boot camp and A-school, dedicate a few years of your life to serve your country, craft your career to become either a final checker or catapult shooter amongst other choices, and then get really good at it. I supposed though, being on the catwalk at the deck edge is a pretty good alternative.
Some people have a fear of heights. I have a fear of getting chopped to pieces by a big ass propeller. This video made my skin crawl. Mad respect for the flight deck personnel
When she ran from the shuttle I lost it! She looked like my wife running from a spider lol.
Not gonna lie, that looks like a dangerous AF job.

Lol I also loved the way she ran out. I would absolutely run the same way, and I'm a grown a$$ man
If she's anything like my missus she let's out a scream that would shatter Glass 🤣🤣👍👍
Lol got me too, what a gal that was awesome
Best wishes from Germany, your videos are beyond any scale of entertainment, pure fun to watch and still getting all the technical details. I acknowledge your respect to the deck personal.
Her standing in front of that wheel while the plane is at full power and full tension is definitely dangerous
LOL, the Director lifting her right foot WAY up at 1:07 as she's stepping clear of the catapult track. I'm sure that's a pretty engrained safety thing (don't want to loose toes to the shuttle), but it looks funny.
The prance out never gets old
"'Merica! Hell yeah!" Cheers buddy. Good flyin'

What's a nuke? Did you maintain the reactor?
Which Division? I was RM-23 in the mid 70s.
You were a nuke? I think I'm lost here lol when I read nuke I'm thinking of basically any projectile with a nuclear warhead on it.
@@fcuk_youtubereactor tech 🙂
@@GeneBennett I was an MM-ELT in RL Division. 1982-86.
Rob. What can we all say. We love your videos! Thank you for sharing this amazing experience.
As an ABH on Enterprise back in the day, the E-2 and C-2 props are what I feared the most.
Me too. I was an AE on both A-6s (Forrestal) and P-3s. Getting hit by a prop was scariest, followed by the chance of getting blown over the side at night.
@disabuser Getting thrown over at night sounds terrifying.
Yep, said every ABH ever.
It may not be the prettiest aircraft on deck, but the C-2 is certainly the crew's favorite because it delivers the mail. FLY NAVY!!!!
Two huge turboprops, that makes it a pretty airplane in my book. Jets are boring. Real men fly propellers.
Maybe back in the day when lettered mail was a thing. The Navy has had access to internet for decades now. But no doubt the C2 is the workhorse of any Carrier.⚓️✌🏻🍻🇺🇸
Amen the that! 🫡
It not only receives and delivers mail, but it also carries personal on and off the carrier.
@@torn-_shuttle123 Roger! Served!⚓️🇺🇸✌🏻🍻
Love it!! The spinny things look a tad intimidating
So Intense from that view. I thought the camera would move or duck away during launch. This camera man has nerves of steel
Seriously… he risked it all for you and me!

I came for a 'Fly Navy' but 'America! Hell Yeah!' works pretty darn well too.
Very cool! Different angle and perspective.
Dude, that "Merica, hell yeah!" cracked me up! This was a really cool vid.

I’m an old Forrestal, Saratoga and Nimitz sailor. I miss the smells!
Go Navy - FLY MARINES!!
That made me want to stand and salute!
Don't stand up too soon though - watch that prop. 🙂
Always make me smile these 👍, keep it up Buddy. Great delivery.
Love your narrations, so much enthusiasm in your voice!
Even with Ear Protection on The Top Side....Your Crew Members Captain Roy SMILED when they heard "AMERICA...HELL YEAH"🗽
A dangerous thing of beauty.

The flight director looked like she could use some PT. Great video, nice to see outside the cockpit.
You're not kidding. But PT was so 2010s.
Had this in my watch list and skipped to the next video after what i thought was the end. Then I hear "'merica. Hell ya!" Made my day. 😆
Good job building the tension before the launch! Great video!
Awesome to see from the "other side" with commentary :) Thx
Served on the Kitty Hawk and Saratoga. Saw a bunch of this stuff! Never got boring.
Proud of you, thanks for your enthusiasm. I enjoy your videos.
Awesome new view that really shows the skill of those on the deck, but damn, I never realised just how close you are to the edge 😬

I so needed this fix!
As someone who lives on an airport and gets videos “close” to planes taking off and landing, I can now say I’ve never been close to a plane taking off or landing.
I like how the cameras frame rate almost matches the propellers.
