I've always needed this kind of explanation and never found it till I watched this video of course. So thank you very much I needed someone that was very clear and shown examples and other helpful info.
Excellent! Came back here once more before I purchase. 255.35.18 - Got it! 9x5 +38 - Got it! Springs with lowest drop?? Eibach is popular near me. TIA Appreciate the videos and support!
Remember adding positive caster will cause the wheel to gain negative camber as the suspension compresses. Can run less camber, with the overall same handing and suspension characteristics and not go through tires as fast.
So I had a steal of a deal on some Toyo Proxes 4 Plus. They're 245/45/18. I put them on my stock wheels and they ride really good, no rubbing. And, I feel like they fill the wheel well more. No one really talks about running 45 walls on STI, not sure why. Eventually, I want to lower, and go for a wider tire. 265/35/18 seems like a perfect setup.
In case anyone is looking for some info. I'm running 18x9.5 +38 (TE37SL) with 265/35r18 -- rubs in the rear, and I don't have my fenders rolled. Had to lift the rear up 1/2 inch and it still rubs. Plan on switching to 255/35
on my '15 Sti im running RCE Black springs only .40" drop(ride nicer!) and 18/9.5+38 wheel and wrapped w 275/35/18 NO RUB WHATSOEVER yes ...Two Seventy Five mm wide no rub...it fits al day long. DONT Believe people that say 265 is widest you can go lol
How much wheel gap do you have with the Blacks? Planning on running a 255/40 tire, still haven't decided on width and offset yet but would like to run those instead of the Yellows to accommodate the taller sidewall.
What is the inset and outset clearances from a stock sti wheel and tire? From what I gather from the video, 17-20 mm outset clearance stock based on both your spacer (20mm) and your recommended offset of +38 on a new wheel set. The only inference I can make on inset is there isn't much of it, is there at least 8mm? Around 30mm total play? Trying to do the mental gymnastics to find various solutions that would fit my desired effect. No mod, no rub, flush, etc. And having the safe space on each side helps a lot ;)
I was looking for backspace measurement for STI brembo clearance. Although they spoke design was mentioned, i could've used some numbers like "4 pot front calipers need XX milimeters/inches to fit properly" etc... dissapointed!
Hey Subispeed 👋 super late to the video but I’m a recent WRX owner and have been following your videos and shopping online. At the end of the video you gave a recommendation of tire size for 9.5 width wheels with for lowering springs and then for Coilovers. I was wondering what you’re recommendation for tire size on stock suspension using 18x9.5 wheels is? Or if you didn’t recommend using 9.5 width wheels on stock suspension all together?
I have the 2020 Subaru WRX STI, Series White. Which comes with the 19 x 8.5 wheels and the 245/ 35 tires. I wanted a wider look and was looking into a wider set up of tires without rolling fenders. Question: what do you recommend for tire size if I want to keep my stock wheels? Do you also recommend using spacers?
any experience on fitting an 18x9.5 +38 offset on SJ forester? I really want the 9.5j but worried that width and offset will poke of out the fenders will use 245/50 18 tyres
I am sold on getting 18x9.5 ET+38 with 255/35/18 firehawk tires. But a tire shop said I would rub because the stock suspension is too soft. If i get this fitment will i need to have any fender, or suspension work done for it not to rub? I know you said it a million times already that it is ideal. But if it is questionable i may just go with 18x8.5 ET33 245/40/18 i also wouldnt mind the meatier tire to fill in the wheel gap with stock suspenion.
Tossing up between 18x9 +40 and 18x9.5 +45 wheels for a 2016 WRX, how would these go for clearance with RCE yellows?? Any rubbing? Fender modification needed?
Wanting to run 18x9.5 +45 Volk ZE40 with 275/35-18 on my 2018 STI at stock ride height. I've read elsewhere that this will fit. Please let me know if you've tried this set up.
Whats the widest setup that doesn't stick out of the body work when facing the car front on. I legally can't drive with any wheels that stick out. Does an 18X9.5 +38 sit flush or is it wider then the body?
I have an 05 sti with stock wheel spec. I’m looking to go as big as possible without any clearance issues of brakes, body kit and without using any spacers or anything like that, I literally want to just slap a bigger wheel/tire on and go. What wheel spec and offset should I go with to achieve this? Thank you!
LT 215 / 75 / R15 BF GoodRich A/T KO2 tire, with a Method MR502 VT - SPEC wheel with a 15mm offset. Would you say this would fit a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek with OEM suspension and no lift kit and without any problems with clearance, rubbing issues and other possible issues? Thanks
Yes I’ve been running it for a few months. No problems however it looks stretched, but not stretched to the point that it looks like a stance fitment. Aka it looks dumb as hell and my friends who don’t know sh*t about cars think it looks weird as well. My point is if you want stretched go for a smaller tire but if not go for a 255 or 265. I’m going 265 soon.
I have a 2017 STi and I want to get wheels and tires: 255/40R18-8.5 with and offset of 50 I know the stock wheels and tires are 245/40/18 with 55 offset. So without making any modifications in the suspension, do you think my first option will work?
so i want to get taller tires just for comfort and less road noise , my wrx has stock wheels, i think 145/50/18r. so how much taller can i go 55 or maybe 60? know this video is old but any answer is helpful.
I know you recommend 255/35/18 on 9.5 +38 can't afford wheels and tires at the same time. Will stock tires work in that wheel size if I buy the wheels before me tires. I want safe reliable set up.
Dear subiespeed I plan to run a 18x9.5 +35 offset, on oem suspension , if I throw on some 265/35/18 tires , would I rub? I want as flush as possible, but don’t want to roll , or should I just stick to the 255/35/18s? Thank you in advance for all the vids they help a lot
I have a question. I have a 2007 outback limited 2.5i stock ride height and no fender mods and want to instal xxr 527 wheels. Whats the widest 18 inch rim i can install without having any issues? And what corresponding tire size should i get for it?
Just picked up a Set of 18x9.5 +27 NTO3 +M for my 2016 STI. Currently sitting on RCE yellows. I am having a hard time deciding what size tires to select that would make fitment easier. I would really like to go with 265/35/18, but I am not sure how much camber and fender work I would need to make that fit.
For the wheels alone you are going to need fender work to make them fit, plus coils up front with camber plates. Lots of effort will need to be made to get those inside the fenders unfortunately. :( Rear you will need fully adjustable arms as well.
If you look around our site all wheels that are +38 will work for your situation. A 265 tire though will rub a bit unless you get some camber in the rear. A 255 is ideal for fitment without issues.
Would the Enkei TS10's 18x8.5 +35 sit nearly flush with the fenders? I'm looking at the 18x9.5 but running the stock 245/40/18 Dunlops will stretch a lot won't it?
The 8.5 will sit right inside the fender line, pretty good fitment, but won't be perfectly flush. We do see a lot of people running the OEM tire size on 9.5 though, the tire is stretched but not to the point we would deem unsafe.
I have a 2017 sti on swift springs and my next move is wheels I staying with 18’s and I found a few good deals on some AodHan wheels so I’m wondering if 8.5 wide with + 35 will work but also 9.5 with +30,I’m looking to get the wheels flush as possible but don’t want them to “poke” come out past the top of fender at all, thanks
i have a 18x9 +35 offset and i'm considering running a 265/35 tire. In your experience, will that clear? I am currently on stock height but intend to install coils or springs in the near future. According to willtheyfit.com it appears my intended set up would allow for more room than your recommended 18x9.5 +38 with 255/35. Thanks for your help.
SubiSpeed I just ordered a set, thank you very much for your reply!!!! I wouldn't of felt sure without you, keep up the awesome store and videos. I always recommend your site to all my subi brothers. Again thank you
I have a 2017 wrx on lowering springs. I have wheels 18x9.5 with 38 offset. My mechanic recommends 265 40 18, but I was as thinking of getting 265 35 18 tires. What possible issues would I have if I get those instead of 255 35 18 tires?
Brandon, any lowering springs would work for this application, but I would suggest some negative camber as you may get some slight rubbing on the outside fenders with that larger tire size.
Depends on the tire, as some run larger in the same size. Extreme summer tires run a touch wider. We've seen people fun this setup just fine, but I would be willing to bet at full compression you will have a slight rub in the rear without camber adjustment.
What do you recommend I install on a 2018 Impreza with stock suspension? I want the biggest rim I can possibly fit with very little tire. Thanks for your help.
I have a 2017 STi Limited I want to get the STR607 Gloss black wheels. Would a 18x10 with 40 offset work without rubbing and if so what size tires would you recommend?
Keeping the stock suspension/height, would 265/30/r18 be okay without having to roll the fender? I like the ride quality of the stock wrx thats why im not interested with lowering it or replacing it. Hope you can answer. Im thinking about getting your wedsport wheels that you have mounted on your wrx.
That will stick out quite a bit from the outside fenders, about 36mm to be exact. We wouldn't recommend that fitment at all without alignment changes or fender work.
I'm buying a new set of wheels there 17 pounds each making them about 9.6 pounds lighter than my stock 16 wrx wheels. Is there anything negative that I should be aware of before I make this change? I'm new to all this moding stuff.
Thank you much. If anyone could help me on my legacy 3.6...want it pretty flush to the fender..stock suspension..some say 18×8 45 offset is perfect or 18×8.5 45 offset with 5mm spacers. Thanks in advance
I was looking on getting advan rgIII Would a 19 10.0 35 off set 255/35/19 coil over drop would that be too big or need fenders rolled what is a good what's a good size to show the rims but also perform as well I like to show rim but don't won't it to take from performance to much
Hey subispeed so I have a 18sti. I currently bought the 57Cr in a 18x9.5 +38 offset, which would be my best option for tires? I am currently on stock suspension and stock height. But plan to go with lca and rce yellows in the future. Thanks.
hii there thank you for the great vid.. ~ i have 2011 wrx running 18x9.5 +38 255/35 on adjustable coil overs ` im looking at buying a second hand set of work meisters m1 18x9.5 -35 front and 18x10.5 -46 rear - how far would they stick past the guards? have to use wheel fender and camber?
great videos. I have a 2016 wrx and I want to put 255 35 18 in the rear and keep the stock 245's up front. is there anything I need to look out for or will this be no problem? thx
Hello. Very clear. Thank you. Can you advise me please? I have a 2016 Fiesta ST which as standard runs 205/40/17 on 7" rims.I actually want to do the reverse of most people do to improve the hard ride and am planning to switch to 205/45/16 on 7" which is a straight swap and will cause no other differences and will clear the brakes etc. HOWEVER(!) My question is if I put 195/50/16 on (which is the same rolling diameter) I think they will need to go to a 6" rim size? will this be okay and will the offset mean my wheels are deeper set into the wheel arches by 1"? Best, Mark
Lol. Have had them - bit too clumsy and clunky for me and far too much on fuel for UK fuel prices! Am getting a set of Team Dynamic Pro Race 16" x7 with same offset and 205/45/16.. then I can do winter tyres too if I need. :)
kram namwen, glad you have a sense of humor, i wasn't sure how you were going to take that, lol. i have to fill up my STi once a week and is usually around 30 dollars, i usually average 20 mpg and never let the tank go empty.
kram namwen , wow!! that's insane!!! i think if i go until the gas light comes on is around 45 dollars and that's high for me. i Can see why you want something more economical. Thanks, it always puts a smile on my face when i can take some corners and high revs, cheers.
What size would you recommend in a 18x9.5 rim with factory suspension? I don’t want to lower it rather fill in the fender gaps a bit.
I've always needed this kind of explanation and never found it till I watched this video of course. So thank you very much I needed someone that was very clear and shown examples and other helpful info.
Excellent! Came back here once more before I purchase.

Stock suspension you could push to 19 if you like
18x8.5 +45 on 2014 Forester is flush that's what I run.
Geez where is the love for 17in rim videos?

I just got 18x9,5 +38 offset and it hits the breaks on the front. Im sad... (2016 STI)

Hi for a 2017 wrx - thinking of picking up a 18x9.5 et40 on 265/35s. No plans on dropping for now. Any experience on rubbing for this?
Did you ever get an answer on this?
LT 215 / 75 / R15 BF GoodRich A/T KO2 tire, with a Method MR502 VT - SPEC wheel with a 15mm offset. Would you say this would fit a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek with OEM suspension and no lift kit and without any problems with clearance, rubbing issues and other possible issues?

can you safely run a 245\40 tire on a 18x9.5 wheel? thanks
You can but it will look stretched.
I’m going 265 soon.
so 255/35/18 18x9.5 + 38 offset would be best setup for wrx with stock suspension?
Yep, it is a nice no headache setup.
I'm planning to get 18x8 wheels. so 255/35/18 tires are perfect size for that set up with all stock suspension?
that would be pretty beefy for that size rim. you definitely won't curb your rims with that tire set up
How about a 18x9.5 +38 offset on 245/40/18 with stock suspension on 2018 WRX?
it will work, but it will also looked stretched.
I have a 2008 Subaru Legacy GT. I'm thinking of going for a 18 x 9.5 wheel. What should be my offset?
I have a 2017 STi and I want to get wheels and tires: 255/40R18-8.5 with and offset of 50 I know the stock wheels and tires are 245/40/18 with 55 offset. So without making any modifications in the suspension, do you think my first option will work?

If you're like me and only want comfort go down to a 17×8 with a 245×30 tire.
about time they did this video
I have a 2016 WRX base, can I buy 18 inch rims and tires and use those with no further modifications?
I know you recommend 255/35/18 on 9.5 +38 can't afford wheels and tires at the same time. Will stock tires work in that wheel size if I buy the wheels before me tires. I want safe reliable set up.
Rex N Flex yes man you can use your oem tires that's hOw I use till my tires are done and then I get the 255/35/18
Thank you
Great job thank you for the highly valued information. You guys are awesome!
what would you suggest for a good winter tire size. I have read that the 215/50/17 is a good fit because it is narrower. thanks first time WRX owner
Dear subiespeed
I plan to run a 18x9.5 +35 offset, on oem suspension , if I throw on some 265/35/18 tires , would I rub? I want as flush as possible, but don’t want to roll , or should I just stick to the 255/35/18s?
Thank you in advance for all the vids they help a lot
Did you ever end up doing this setup? I'm looking to do the same on a 2017
I have a question.
Just got an an alignment and I was only able to get -1.0 camber in front and -2.5 in the rear.
For the wheels alone you are going to need fender work to make them fit, plus coils up front with camber plates. Lots of effort will need to be made to get those inside the fenders unfortunately. :( Rear you will need fully adjustable arms as well.
Thanks for the info! I probably should have watched this video a bit sooner....well I guess i have a set of wheels for sale now LOL
If you look around our site all wheels that are +38 will work for your situation. A 265 tire though will rub a bit unless you get some camber in the rear. A 255 is ideal for fitment without issues.
Should I get an alignment after changing my wheel specs?
I'm curious about wheel fitment for a 2015 impreza premium
Can you all do a pulley shroud install video? I have the torque solutions pulley shroud
Will the 18x9.5 +38 offset wheel fit the base model 2015+ WRXs
(Without the inverted struts up front?)
Was hoping to run a 18x9.5 +35/38 wheel with a 255/40/18 on stock suspension. Any fitment issues there?
No love for older subies 07 sti :( on your website. but still, thank you for the video.
where's the forester love?
Whats best mags size and tire for 95-100 hp car...hope u can help me..thnx
i have a 18x9 +35 offset and i'm considering running a 265/35 tire. In your experience, will that clear? I am currently on stock height but intend to install coils or springs in the near future. According to willtheyfit.com it appears my intended set up would allow for more room than your recommended 18x9.5 +38 with 255/35.
Thanks for your help.
I have a stock suspension wrx 2017, I have the enkei 18x9.5 +38 offset wheels. What size tire are you guys using?
255/35 or 255/40??
255/35/18
SubiSpeed I just ordered a set, thank you very much for your reply!!!! I wouldn't of felt sure without you, keep up the awesome store and videos. I always recommend your site to all my subi brothers. Again thank you
if i go with a 18x9.5 +38 with 255/35/18 how low can i drop it without any rolling or rubbing? thanks.
I have a 2017 wrx on lowering springs. I have wheels 18x9.5 with 38 offset. My mechanic recommends 265 40 18, but I was as thinking of getting 265 35 18 tires. What possible issues would I have if I get those instead of 255 35 18 tires?
I'm running 18x95. +38, with 265/25r18 -- I'm rubbing, even when I lift the rear coilover by 1/2 inch, I still rub.
The 1 dislike was a Honda owner
How will a 18x9.75 +20 fit? Any insight?
Will 18x8.5 30 or 18x9.5 30 fit my stock sti (2011) with 245/40 tire without rubbing?
do you recommend having 245/40/18 on a 18x9.5 +38 will be just fine?? THanks
I have a 2015 wrx with 9.5 wide wheels and 265 tires. How much could i lower with lowering springs you think without clearance issues? Thanks!
Brandon, any lowering springs would work for this application, but I would suggest some negative camber as you may get some slight rubbing on the outside fenders with that larger tire size.
+SubiSpeed wouldn't negative offset affect tire thread wear? (that's after alignment done)
+xxxREVOLVERxxx minimally, toe will more drastically affect it.
can you have a 265/35/18 on 18x9.5 +38 with stock suspension
Depends on the tire, as some run larger in the same size. Extreme summer tires run a touch wider. We've seen people fun this setup just fine, but I would be willing to bet at full compression you will have a slight rub in the rear without camber adjustment.
What number do you look for to clear the big brakes on an STi?
What do you recommend I install on a 2018 Impreza with stock suspension? I want the biggest rim I can possibly fit with very little tire. Thanks for your help.
19's
I have a 2017 STi Limited I want to get the STR607 Gloss black wheels. Would a 18x10 with 40 offset work without rubbing and if so what size tires would you recommend?
Sorry that is not something we offer and that size would not fit with out a ton of work.
Yes but offset is more important than tire size, stock height is very high so you'll be safe. How wide are the wheels and which offset?
i like the wedssport that is 9.5 in width and 38 offset.
245/35/18 on 18x8.5? also planning to drop it no more than an inch. Will that tire size be super stretched?
What would I need for a stock 2001 Subaru Forester L AWD. I want 17 or 18" rims
Would a wheel set up like 18x9 +38 be ideal for a 2018 STI with 0 poke out of the fender? same fitment as you would by adding a spacer?
I have a 2015 wrx and am looking to get an aggressive stance without fender rolling/coilovers. Will a 18x9.5 +12 work? 255 tires
Just gotta make sure they fit.
Thank you much. If anyone could help me on my legacy 3.6...want it pretty flush to the fender..stock suspension..some say 18×8 45 offset is perfect or 18×8.5 45 offset with 5mm spacers. Thanks in advance
I looking at buying 10.5 wide with -41 offset for my 2011 wrx , how much poke would it have would i need fender flares?
Good video. Take care and stay safe.
Will 265/35/18 tires be ok with stock wheels 18 8.5 ?
I was looking on getting advan rgIII Would a 19 10.0 35 off set 255/35/19 coil over drop would that be too big or need fenders rolled what is a good what's a good size to show the rims but also perform as well I like to show rim but don't won't it to take from performance to much
You will want to stick to an 18 for performance. Any 10 inch wide wheel with a 35 offset will require fender work to fit as well. :(
What about specs for widest tire set up with stock suspension or lowering springs for 2011 wrx?
Can a 18x10, 35mm offset with 265/35 tires fit? On stock suspension. Will it rub? Thanks.
Nope won't fit.
What wheel/tire setup is best and will not run for the 2015 wrx sti with STOCK suspension.?
18x8.5-18x9 +40 would be ideal for stock suspension with an OEM + look
@@SubiSpeed Thank you.
245-50-17 7” stock rim stock suspension on 2007 Legacy ?
7.5 if you can
How would 19x9.5 +38 look like? Also would you recommend 265 or 235?
19's would require you to run a smaller profile tire and may require you to roll/pull fenders as well as camber adjustment.
Hey subispeed so I have a 18sti. I currently bought the 57Cr in a 18x9.5 +38 offset, which would be my best option for tires? I am currently on stock suspension and stock height. But plan to go with lca and rce yellows in the future. Thanks.
255/35/18
does 19x9.5 + 38 work on a 2018 STI? Will there be any rub or issues, since the 2018+ comes with 19'' wheels?? (Stock Suspension)
Stock is 18'
If you bottom out then yes youll prob wreck the fender paint
I have no clue about wheel sizes, but what tire size / wheel size combo would look close to flush as possible with the WRX fender? Stock everything.
18x9.5 +38 255/40/18
SubiSpeed thanks!!!!!
this wont rub at all for with 40 tires?
if i am on rce yellows, wouldn't 18x9.5 with 35 offset have to much poke and run on fenders or inner wheel well on hard turning cornering
+38 or +40 is what we recommend with RCE springs, also we would limit tire size to 255/35/18. Shouldn't be rubbing even under hard cornering.
What about 16 or 17 inch wheel fitments?
holy crap that was informative!
255/35/18 with +30 offset?
I'm planning to set up Swift spec-r springs that drops 1inch all around on 18x9.5 +38 with 255/35 tires, does this gonna have any rubbing issues?
Nope, shouldn't have any issues
I'm trying to buy te37 mk2 17s for my 2013 impreza wrx with little more meat on them any ideas
hii there thank you for the great vid..
You don't want to run a staggered setup on an AWD car.
on stock suspension what size for 18in and flush look?
What's the biggest I can go with 20mm spacers ? On stock hight
would 19x9.5 +38 work on stock sti?
Will esr cs15 18x9.5 35 offset with 255/35/18 tires fit a stock 2017 wrx?
Great video!! Thanks!
Would a 18x9.5 +10 Cosmis xt-206r work on a stocked 2016wrx? Tire size 255 35 or 40
great videos. I have a 2016 wrx and I want to put 255 35 18 in the rear and keep the stock 245's up front. is there anything I need to look out for or will this be no problem? thx
With these AWD cars you'll want to stick with the same tire size all around.
So I'll go 255 35 18 all around. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.
Will a 18x9.5 25 offset fit my 2006 hawkeye
I want the Rpf1s on my 04 wrx. Stock height. what tires would i need to use on them
Hello. Very clear. Best, Mark
kram namwen, best thing to do is sell your car, buy the focus if you want to keep the Ford brand or even better buy a WRX/STi
Over here it's £70 for a tank! - So $85 ish! Enjoy - great car, real sledgehammer performance.
kram namwen , wow!! that's insane!!! i think if i go until the gas light comes on is around 45 dollars and that's high for me. i Can see why you want something more economical. Thanks, it always puts a smile on my face when i can take some corners and high revs, cheers.
I think I going to get cosmis mrII 18x10.5x20 what tire size would you recommend for this
