As a fellow independent artist (knowingly A LOT LOT smaller to guardin), I can honestly feel this. This hits home to me beyond what I can fully explain. I actually recently made a comment to another video and expressed the same thing that I feel from this song. I'll summarize it so it's more condensed here. Being an independent artist sucks. You are alone in your head, alone in your room 99% of the time making your beats (or using youtube beats), making your lyrics, using your vocals and making your songs. Sure you might have some friends who want what's best for you that you'll share music to or ask for 2nd opinions but would rarely get genuine responses. You will gain a following, and with that, you will feel obligated to make more music and pressure yourself to work even when you aren't mentally or physically in the right place to work. At the end of the day, you don't know if the songs you are making are good or bad, so you force yourself to either throw them away or take a shot in the dark and put it out there. You'll start getting support from random people online, these 'fans' (which I don't consider them fans, as I don't feel that I do or make anything deserving of having fans) will try to talk to you and connect with you. You will feel like you are worth something and try to create connections until there are too many and you end up getting overwhelmed then shut down and stop talking to everyone for days or weeks. You will find hate wherever you can find support and enough hate could make you question if your songs are even good or not, especially when you are addicted to wanting to make good music and force yourself to listen to your song 500+ times on repeat to look for any flaw even though you already cannot stand your voice/music. As a song I started working on goes "Maybe I don't wanna be famous, I don't wanna live just to let go. Maybe I'm scared of doing all this for nothing, end up being a small echo." Something that I feel many other artists have battled through themselves, don't want to become famous due to all the pressure and weight associated to it but also don't want to end up not changing anyone's lives or doing anything that could help people. It's a little aggravating to me seeing all these comments talking about how "holy shit this is a banger" or "yes this is amazing". Maybe it's just because as a fellow artist, these lyrics hit me and isn't actually how guardin feels/thinks. Though until proven wrong, I want to say that Guardin likely feels pretty close to this, and to see so many people absolutely miss the point of the song and dumb it down to just being good singing on a beat is disappointing a little bit.
