- It's winter here but there is still some great fly fishing to be done so why not go camping to make it a big adventure and test out some new gear.

Looks like you made the right choice to go camping and fishing. What a trip
It was a really good one. Will hopefully do more come summer and might even film it
Nice vid Johan. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
Great video and always appreciate your effort in putting it together.
Thanks Jaco, glad you enjoyed it. Another one coming next week.
Another great video Johan. Tough going with the gear breakages. You may want to check out PD (Power Delivery) battery banks. They can really deliver the juice via USB-C which a lot of chargers use. A decent 20k or 30k mAh powerbank can really charge up a lot of batteries and is quite portable in your backpack.
Thanks Eric, yeah a bit annoyed about the skagit line but I might still be able to DIY salvage it. I normally use powerbanks (I have 5) for charging when I go hiking but this is much more convenient for camping with the inverter as I can charge everything simultaneously including the powerbank I use to cycle charge my 6 gopro batteries during the day. When I'm hiking I limit the gear a lot otherwise it just gets way too heavy very quickly.
Another awesome video mate
Thanks mate, appreciate it
Nice one Johan.
Will have to make a trip over that way sometime. Looks lovely and an easy campsite
Yeah it's a nice spot. Busy in summer but devoid of people in winter which is great.
Loved it Johan, keeps me going at the moment, you now have some luxuries in the charging arrangement, looks really cool, pity about the Skagit line but the running sections are pretty thin, loved ow you are embracing all the different methods to suit the occasion. cheers.
Thanks Neil, I should have another one next week for you, just need to edit it. I'm enjoying trying various methods. I think it's a great way to keep learning and have different options depending on the situation.
Too cold for camping! Great clip :)
Haha, thanks. I was actually toasty in my sleeping bag.
Good vid mate.. I’d be interested in getting that power pack :)
Thanks, it's a useful powerbank. There are links for NZ ans US in the video description if you want to check it out.
Wow mate! Incredible fish and what a stunning place and what a way to spend some time, It makes it so fun when there's so many different methods employed throughout the video, keeps everything interesting :) Video quality is next level !
Also @15:43, is that an actual dinner I see and not just beans + noodles? 😆
Yes, I made dinner, but there was still baked beans involved!! 😂😂
Awesome video Johan, thanks for sharing! Looks like that unit packs a lot of power but might be a hefty weight in your backpack 🧱🏕️🏞️
It's surprisingly light but not for hiking though. Great for camping and heli trips (assuming they will fly with such a device). Also great to have at home for power outages. You can run your fridge for example in a pinch to keep stuff from defrosting or just keep phones and stuff charged for a few days.
Good to take the good with the bad thumbs up
Thanks, still plenty of opportunities around in winter.
@@CrazyAboutFlyFishing most definitely always a door closes one will open
She looks pretty cold that first morning! But worth it for fish like that, another great video as always!
Thankfully the temps came up a bit due to cloud cover so I was relatively toasty at night. Glad you enjoyed the video. Tight lines.
Hi Johan, always liked that stretch of water and we often used to see a nanny goat with her kids on the other side of the river. You tend to forget the feral goats and turkeys that share our riversides. Love those cold crispy days of August. I suppose that you are staying away from video recording in Taupo for a while (as per Alex)? See you around. Cheers mate. Harera
It's my favorite stretch on this river. I didn't even go very far this time. Always productive. I'm reducing my Taupo filming for sure but not entirely staying away. But it does mean I do have to pay when I film in Taupo, which is what my online course helps pay for. Next week is a Taupo one filmed the day after this trip. Tight lines.
Camping in winter. Not a bad idea Mr Johan 😂😂😂. Anyway, liked the versatile fishing methods in the video. Looking forward to your next adventure. Any ideas?
It was fun actually and I wasn't cold which was the main thing I was worried about. Next up is the video from our day with Angel. After that I'm not sure yet but probably some euro nymphing and maybe some lake stuff. I want to learn to fish lakes so may as well document that too. I'm even thinking of getting the bellyboat out for a spin. Also potential for some saltwater too.
Great fishing - but I'll take a warm motel room over the camping option!
Haha the camping was a lot of fun and I was warm in the end to my surprise
Well worth freezing one’s arse off.
Absolutely 💯
