You guys might not know this but James Cameron bought the rights to making this movie back in the early 90s and his Avatar movie was made as a test bed for the technology that they perfected before making this movie unfortunately Disney took steps already in to make sure reviewers end news articles threw shade at Alita battle angel when it was in theaters claiming fans were just alt-right trolls or something crazy just to try to promote Captain Marvel it was really really silly considering how good this movie really was I think they were just scared because honestly this was one of the best movies of the year so far. The movie only spanned the first two volumes of the manga and a little bit of a few later ones just to get some of the motorball Ark in there but don't fret even Rosa Salazar said she wants to play this character forever so get out there and "buy those Blu-rays baby" ~Rosa S. ^_^

@Frogger As long as it keeps improving, people will never stop saying it. And seeing that it's a harmless thing to be impressed about, I don't see what the problem is.
It was the very first time I 100% believed a CGI character was real. Just different enough from a human to avoid the uncanny valley, but close enough to not be totally alien. Alita herself was mesmerizing in 3D.
The movie was pretty good. The best part was how the actress made you actually care about Alita and for her to win.
Rosa Salazar was amazing. She deserves at least an Oscar nomination.👍
I wasn't too impressed with the trailers for this movie so I decided not to see it in the theater. I saw it on Blu-ray and my God I love this movie it's one of the best I've seen in a couple years. They better make that damn sequel!
I actually did see it in a theater - I just finished an exam at school, it was Friday afternoon and I wanted to just chill, so I went to the cinema alone and I didn't know anything about this movie, I haven't even seen the trailer, just the posters. And... man, was I just blown away by how I got hooked on that story and action scenes! Hadn't had this pleasantly surprising experience from a movie for a long long time!
I don't think they will because not enough people went to see it. That's a shame and it happens too often.
Read the manga if you want to see where the story goes. The movie is close enough to the manga even though certain things happen out of order.

This movie really surprised me, I went in blind not knowing anything about what I was going to watch and I came out of it having watched probably one of my favorite movies ever.

The CGI is in another level, for real.
There is a huge fanbase for Alita. They are called Alita Army. Many fans have watched this movie #50+ withe highest above 100+ at theatres. I personally watched 5x at the theatre. The IMAX 3D experience is crazily good. Alita Army loves Alita. Many are now buying many Blu Rays to give to friends, trying to boost sales for a second sequel.
Many Alita Army are taking to be youtubers and updating Alita Army on everything related to Alita. They are incredible.

This movie really needs a sequel! It’s fantastic, unique and personally one of my fave soundtracks by Junkie XL. They really made Alita such a lovable character.
Buy the Blu ray, the movie can have sequel if public show interest.

sadly Hugo is 100% dead, Alita is a very sad story sometimes, in the original Hugo is actually a spine thief, with a very tragic background, so it brings up some interesting moral questions when you feel sympathy for him ... I think they had to tone down that part for mainstream audiences, as it's so morally unusual. I remember watching the anime back in the 90's when I was younger, and it really effected me, it was complex storytelling told in a simple way
@J G I agree, would be nice to see more, I thought it was an enjoyable adaptation, and there's 30 years of books they can adapt, if they want to include Last Order and Chronicles :) it's just a shame it got caught up in all the unnecessary Marvel drama, as I always thought it was a cool story, but sadly some people find it impossible to like 2 things at the same time, which baffles me slightly lol, but hey, hopefully people can learn to just appreciate things on their own merits ...
@J G exactly :) there's no reason to deny ourselves good entertainment ;) it's just like the whole DC v Marvel thing, there's plenty of reasons why people can enjoy both things :) besides, now Disney is in charge of the Alita movies, so if they can get behind it, they've shown they are willing to invest in a good franchise, just look at the first Cap and Thor movies, very similar box office to Alita, and they still invested heavily in the MCU to play the long game :)

By far the best movie of 2019. Plus the best Anime/Manga adaptation. Love this movie have it on 4K Blu-ray. Glad you guys enjoyed the movie.
I don't know if you all realized it but all the martians had larger eyes. Kinda makes since when you think of the lower light or levels on Mars. Hoping for a sequel so we can find out more about the URM and Zalem
As a fan of the manga...I have to say, for the amount of narrative ground covered, I like the movie's take better! That's no way a discredit to Kishiro's original idea at all as much as it is a testament to the deliberate thought and care Cameron, Rodriguez, and co put into the movie. And Rosa Salazar! My goodness...Such an underrated actress! She IS Alita all the way!
To sum it up, I'd say the movie is a faithfully wedded adaptation--not slavishly bound to the source material, nor wildly independent of it. The two-episode OVA was also a big inspiration for the movie--it too took its own liberties. For instance, Chiren is from THAT version of the story, not the manga.
I was bored one day and took a chance on seeing it while it was at the theater. 5 theater viewings later, and at least twice that many sincd the home release, and I can safely say I'm addicted!

WOW. I was not expecting this. I loved the world of Alita (even though the script had some issues towards the end). For me, the aesthetic and tone of the world - and the dynamic between Alita and her surrogate father - were enough to hope that they made enough money to justify a sequel. So glad you reacted to this. I can't wait to watch your reaction.

@@reaper7694 Alita needed to make 500mil to start being profitable for Fox. Factoring in advertising and the fact that studios share movie ticket profits with theaters and elsewhere in the world the studios rake in a much smaller percentage of the box office intake.

@@alienatedslayer The common formula is double the cost. I've heard experts say this movie makes a profit above 400 mil, which it did with the international box office. So I hope that's enough to make the studio happy.

The Manga Battel Angel Alita/Gunnm is ongoing. After Disney bought Fox it's unclear if there will be a sequel. Soo, buy those dvds folks!

As a fan of the manga I think this live-action adaptation is better than the anime adaptation!

I'm so glad you guys got to watch this amazing film and react to it as well! The reason Alita is staying in the games at the end is to be recognized by Nova to be sent up to Zalem. Only the victor & continuous winner of motorball will be allowed to ascend to Zalem. It is her ticket up there to destroy Zalem and all it's evil. The time lapse at the ends of Hugo's death is supposed to be months after his fate, it took Alita that long to fight through all of the players afterwards. I'm so glad you all enjoyed this film!! Keep supporting it and we will get a sequel for sure!! 😉👍
Great movie, hope they make sequels. Hugo isnt needed for the story to continue and likely would just be an anchor holding it back.

Man I loved this movie so much! Watching it in 4k really elevated the experience for me. I passed on seeing it in theaters. Hopefully we get a sequel.
Buy the Blu-ray and spread the word. People passing on seeing it in theaters is why a sequel isn't guaranteed now.

Sequel Please!!!!!!! If you noticed Nova was played by Edward Norton Jr. A lot of audiences were slightly irritated by the cliffhanger, however, they were setting it up for a sequel. Don't know if they will do it though, no word yet.
Did guys even pay attention to the movie? Only way you can go up to there if you win the tournament and become the best player... Once she wins she can go up there and do some real damage. Also James Cameron wants a trilogy, so hopefully we get that.

Glad you like the movie too; it is one that can withstand repeated viewings, in fact it gets better every time as all the clues and nuances you miss last time would get noticed. I bet you did not notice how quickly you stopped thinking about Alita - and the other computer-generated characters - as computer-generated, but just as characters in the story, that's how it's intended. And of course, Alita is not a superhero, the movie is not a superhero movie where she can bend the law of nature like shooting destructive beams from her eyes or something; in its core it's a story about growth, and redemption, and that makes the film and the characters relatable.
James planned Alita and Avatar together as 3 movie trilogies alternating, so next is Avatar 2, then Alita: Fallen Angel, and then Avatar 3, then the final Alita

One of my favorite movies of 2019
One of my favorite movies in a long time... not just for 2019....
Alita is the best film I´ve seen in roughly 15 years, since Star Wars - Revenge of the Sith and Lord Of The Rings trilogy.
Alita was awesome, it really needs a sequel!! For me, the movie got even better after a second viewing (my best movie theatre experience, with all those special effects and excellent music by Tom Holkenborg)... It got me interested in the Alita manga (which I'd never heard of before the movie) and apparently the movie is quite faithful to the source material (although toned down a lot in violence department).
And don't forget about amazing performance of Rosa Salazar as Alita! Now I'm looking forward to watching everything she's in... there's a new TV series Undone on Amazon prime with Rosa in main part...
Hugo was supposed to be be lame, so he kinda had to die. The manga is great, read it if you can. The ending was great too. It makes you think that the story could go on forever. What an awesome film!
I was always cautious whenever it comes to live-action adaptions of anime or manga, but they really did a good job with this one, one of the very few exceptions that did it right.
Alita's adventure in the manga do continue on much further with multiple series but the movie only made enough money to the point that a sequel is on the fence. The actress for Alita said she'd be fine being Alita for the rest of her life.
I really enjoyed watching this and the fact you came into it without prior knowledge of the source. You three are fantastic. A good point was brought up regarding a future where body parts could be easily replaced with artificial limbs and what would that mean. It's a central theme in Battle Angel Alita, what it means to be human, what makes us human? Hopefully there will be sequels as this story only gets better.
There are several books in the series, this was the first few and they're hoping to be able to continue with the others
Basically the first 2 volumes, the "romance" from volumes 3 and 4 and a few late volume rollerball stuff. All from the first series. This is technically an ongoing series even though several books are done.

When I first saw the initial trailer on Macross World forums, my inner nerd was going Otaku Alert! Otaku Alert! Just what we saw in that trailer had me hooked. Being a rabid fan of the Manga, the end product was pure perfection to me. I had the pleasure to meet Mr. Cameron when he was doing press junket duties at military bases for Avatar. His group was visiting Dwight D. Eisenhower during our 2009 war cruise and I had brought a copy of a BAA: Last Order GN for him to sign (it wasn't planned, I had no idea of his plans for the IP) but when he saw the book, he lite the FUCK UP in grins. He mentioned that Alita was a back burner project that he would eventually get around to doing once he thought his CGI and motion tracking tech matured, Avatar being his test bed of the tech as well as a source of funding... it took him close to a decade but it was totally worth the wait...

the fx on this were so detailed than parts of Alita were rendered that we never saw, right down to the mechanism that allows her to wiggle her toes
This film does such a good job of capturing the feel and aesthetic of the manga.

"Alita: Battle Angel" is one of the best movies I have seen in my life, I even ended up falling in love with Alita, and that good ending, that explains that the possibility of a sequel is open, I really loved this movie
I'm in love too. Something about this movie, the world building, her spirit to fight and never give up, yet so pure and feminine, the heartbroken in the end and have to carry on with her mission. Everything I care about a movie character is in Alita. I just hope she is my daughter and can come home.
Yep. Hugo's dead. In the comics, Alita will have more love interests, but romance is never the focus of the story anyway

I have the 4K/3-D/Blu-ray combo pack as well as the French steel book and I have it digitally as well but if we all band together we can do our part.
I know James and Robert want to do a sequel which will probably be named Alita fallen angel.
Come on Disney you’re already giving James money for a bunch of avatar sequels just giving a bunch more for Alita sequels.
Rosa Salazar did a great performance as Alita wasn’t really a big fan of how the character itself was animated but because the story was so good I kind of overlooked it, the pacing was good also.
I know everyone involved in Alita wants to do a sequel, so fingers crossed it happens. I liked the movie. I really hope you do War for the Planet of the Apes to finish that trilogy.

The movie follows the 1st Manga book quite closely. The manga ends right where the movie does. Very well done.

This movie is based on an anime movie adaption of a long running manga. The story for the manga isn't even finished yet, so sadly the story might never get finished.

She joined motorball to find herself whenever she’s in danger she gets flashbacks of her past life and also to after Nova. Rumor has it Champion of motorball gets to go to Zalem. After the motorball arc which they will mostly cover in the part two she becomes a tuned soldier who ends up working for Zalem. the manga is amazing should look into it. Extremely violent and twisted. Her character developement is pure gold. ✨
I looked up if a sequel was in the mix, and Robert Rodriguez, the creator, has hinted that the film could lead to multiple sequels. Including Fallen Angel and Avenging Angel. *Hey, Disney/Fox merge + Alita: Avenging Angel = Alita will become an Avenger?!*

I loved your reaction and critique of the movie. One thing I wanted to address here. You kept confusing robots, Ai, and cyborgs. There is a huge difference between them. A robot is basically a pre programmed machine which basically performs pre-programmed commands. Ai is the same (centurion robot) with more intelligence, hence, the name artificial intelligence. A cyborg is a totally different beast all together. Its an enhanced human with machine parts, but basically a human being. Its like prosthetic body parts with a human shell, which is what Alita is. If you noticed in the background of iron city, you'll see some of the people walking around have machine limbs.
The only grand champ of mortorball can go up to Salem. That's why Alita took part in motorball in the movie.
In original manga, the reason why Alita got in mortoeball world is quite different, though.

Unfortunately the problem is, 20th Century Fox was taken over by Disney, so now it's going to be a little tricky for a sequel to get green lit, unless the Blu-Ray's sell well!

It seems no one has really commented about the manga. It started all with Gunnm (Ganmu, Japanese abbreviated version of Gun Dream) back in 1990. For the English version they chose the title "Battle Angel Alita". The original series had 9 volumes. The last volume rushed the series to an abrupt end, because of the psychological health of the author. After recovering he regretted the way Alita ended, so he started with the alternative ending / continuation "Battle Angel Alita: Last Order". With this volume 9 of the original series had to be considered a dream sequence. In total "Last Order" spans 19 volumes and expands the world way beyond Zalem. And as a little cherry on top there is the third series "Battle Angel Alita: Martian Chronicles", which is currently at volume 5 and still ongoing. This is more of a prequel that sheds light on Alita's sad and cruel youth.
The manga is much darker and way more brutal (a lot of volumes are rated R in my country), but that adds a lot more meaning to the questions about humanity the manga throws at you. I won't spoil, but let me foreshadow a bit. Zalem might be a peaceful and crime free utopian city, but doesn't every Utopia like that hide a dark secret? ;o)
You should have included an explanation of her name. Alita is only her name in the English versions. Going off of memory, I believe her name at the begonning of the manga is Gally, a boy's name. The location for this part of the story is actually in the U.S.
The manga is way more involved this is still very early in the story and there are several mysteries that haven't been explored. Chief among them who is Alita. While there was an easter egg in the movie (that is not manga canon) it doesn't explain anything really.

If you win the tournament you get to go up . That’s why she was in the arena. They announced it as the grand final. So that implies she had been battling for multiple rounds to get through the championship and make it to the grand final. Eg Perhaps that was a year after Hugo’s death.
Alita went back to motorball at the end of the movie because it is said that the "Final Champion" of motorball gets to go up.
